sorry but I’m confused, what do you mean pro dota and what do you mean pro league
So I don’t know if the lanes transfer exactly, but here we go…
Top: Darius, Jayce, Riven, Irelia and Yorick/Renekton
Mid: Xerath, Diana, Cass, Malz, Ori, Ryze
Jungle: Skarner, We Win, Warrick, Udyr, Shyvana
ADC: Graves, Corki, Ashe, Ez, Vayne
Support: Nunu, Sona, Leona, Janna
Olaf, Riven, Vayne, Graves, Ryze, Karthus, Ahri, Shyvana, Lee Sin, Sona…
I’ll start with a few of the ones you mentioned.
You wanna contribute something?
Teams that win money playing their respective games.
Lich is one of the best starter heroes to learn the game with, IMO. Very straightfoward hero.
It’s really hard to find a close comparison from league heroes to dota.
Don’t play ursa, he’s pubstomp but not an easy hero. Casters in dota do big damage, but aside from queen of pain usually fall into slight semi carry or utility hero at best.
Witch doctor is straight forward kinda, vengeful spirit too. These are two pretty easy support heroes. For a little more complex, shadow demon is really fun. Tidehunter is an easier support hero too
For carry, antimage is pretty straight forward, weaver isn’t too hard but he is very squishy.
It’s hard because dota heroes have their role, but each one has a different set of tools they bring to the team.
Leshrac can be support or pusher/semi carry. He always will push towers because of edict.
Brewmaster is more initiator as you want to get a fast blink to blink in, clap and ult.
Bounty hunter is kinda semi carry(ish) but he is there to run around, gank heroes and track (his ult) as many heroes as possible in a team fight to help his team get the gold advantage (it marks an enemy, and when they die, bounty, as well as the heroes that helped in the kill get extra gold in addition to the regular bounty)
That’s why I suggest randoming your hero for your first 500-1k matches. You have to learn what they all do because of how different they are. Just because they are agility or intelligence heroes doesn’t mean anything really. Random, find some heroes you like and then I can help you guys out better with a mini guide.
Also check out purgegamers on YouTube, he will help you out a lot on any hero you have an interest in.
The big difference is there are no bruisers per say. Certain characters like doombringer and lifestealer can be tanky, but nothing like a fed lee or j4. I started out playing witchdoctor and just controlling my lane and being a pita. also your ulti + nubs = rampage
Well here is the list based off the games I’ve played so far.
Faceless Void
Anti-Mage
Dragon Knight
Lycanthrope
Earthshaker
Lina Inverse
Tiny
First off, easy starting items that works with almost anyone
Branch x 4
Salve x 1
Tangos(3) x 1
This let’s you turn the branches into a magic wand, which is one of the best items in the game. Can be the huge difference between life and death. The regen is good to keep you in lane. Salve stops if you take damage so make sure to fall back If you want to use it. You can sell the other branch later if you aren’t playing support or a hero that can turn it into headdress or buckler.
Faceless Void- one of the strongest late game carries, but needs time to get there and is squishy and lacks damage until then.
Start
Tangos x 1
Salve x 1
Slippers of agility x 2
Branch x 2
As soon as you can if you are sidelane (should go bottom on radiant and top on dire) get a stout shield from the side shop when you get 250 gold to turn it into a poor man’s shield. Go power treads after that and you should be fine in lane. Some people like to get mask of madness to get the burst of speed to keep them time locked. Some people get a necro book because they aren’t affected by chrono and give a good amount of stats (str to live is always good) but this is harder to do and use right so it will take practice to learn.
MKb is a really good damage item after that. I don’t play him too much so aside from the start.
Starting off get one point in timewalk. Good to get out of jail and jump on someone. After that, I like to level up Time lock and his other skill (the dodge shit) and his ult at level 6.
At level 6 I like to have 2 in bash (time lock) 2 in dodge and 1 in walk and your ult.
After that I Max out bash and his dodge because that will save your life and make your opponents hate you so much when you dodge a sniper ult.
Anti-Mage
Start-
Stout
Tango x1
Salve x 1
Branch x 3
You could replace the branches with Culling blade if you are confident that you can play safe and don’t need the extra stats from the branches.
Go safe lane (same as faceless) and FARM. As soon as you get 875 get a ring of health from the side shop. This will help you stay in lane to farm. When you can go to the secret shop (push lane first) and get vitality booster (1100g) and finish vanguard. This will let you live for a good chunk and reduce physical damage a good chunk. Your next item is a battle fury, perseverance (ring of health 875g + void stone 900g) from the secret shop and a claymore (1400g) and broadsword (1200g) from the base shop which will skyrocket your farm (just have courier bring it to you in lane).
When you have battlefury you will use it to clear your lane, let it push and then make your through your jungle and clear all those camps. You can destroy those super fast with bfury.
Next item is manta style, this stacks with mana burn and makes 2 illusions, those illusions will be a problem for the enemy, make them and just send them at someone, if they don’t run you can pretty much kill them from just those. You need yasha (boots of elvenskin (450g + blades of alacrity (1000g) + recipe (700g) all at main shop)
And an ultimate orb (2100g) from the main shop and recipe (750g?).
Get that and the game is pretty much over or should be. If not, get aegis. Then you want to get a heart and be unstoppable (reaver 3200g?) + vit booster (1100) + recipe (1200 or something?)
And if they still want to fuck, sell your aegis (you have a heart now) and build the radiance + basher sword of own and finish the damn game.
I’ll do more later cause these take some time to type
To be continued . . .
Dragon Knight
Lycanthrope
Earthshaker
Lina Inverse
Tiny
So where can one watch pro dota games that aren’t for money? like clan pick up games im guessing this is.
I’d just want to add that depending on the situation, you don’t need a Vanguard on Anti-Mage. A Poor Man’s Shield can suffice depending on your farm, lane, and team comp. Battle Fury is situational too, but a great farming item if you need it. If you have great early game, you can skip Bfury and go straight to Manta style. But yeah, in general that’s a good beginner guide for Anti-Mage.
Always new matches.
Im not a fan of poor man’s on AM, vanguard can be skipped on AM if your confident in your ability to stay safe but I think battlefury is just too good on him to skip over. I would not get it only if I’m having a bad game because manta can help push and farm for you while you go to another lane or hit up the jungle to come back.
But vanguard is safe if your learning still
I’ve always considered Beastmaster to be one of the better heroes for learning Dota, because he can just about do anything and is useful throughout the entire game. Strong, versatile laning (can go both mid and long lane, tanky, good animation and high base dmg, good flash farming skill, Hawk for vision), big mid game impact (provides excellent ganks and map control, makes great use of cheaper items like drums and necrobook, decent mek/pipe buyer), and scales relatively well into the lategame (long range stun that pierces magic immunity is never a bad thing, Greater Hawk is still awesome, surprisingly good aura). BM is easy in terms of execution and micro, is hard to gank, and is always an asset to his team. The only thing you need to be a successful BM is knowledge of the game. Or, rather, if you want to learn Dota, playing BM forces that knowledge upon you. Just don’t be afraid to fuck up. Because you will.
I’ve run into a lot of pug BMs that don’t keep beasts on cooldown. I don’t know man.
I don’t even level beasts when I play BM because I know I won’t be able to use them. I just take stats so I can throw more axes.
I know this is a terrible thing to do. I’m just so bad at micro.
I agree that he is a good “fundamentals” character to learn the game with.
Yeah I would call Beast a more intermediate hero. He isn’t a carry or semi really, and to use all his utility effectively takes some knowledge and practice.
Let alone most pug beastmasters don’t long lane and pull ancients. So there is also that. If you aren’t pulling ancients on the long lane you are playing beastmaster wrong.
Well, how intricate/difficult a character is to play doesn’t have a direct influence on how much they’ll teach you about the game.
Sven is super easy, but the only thing he’ll teach you is how to stun people and how to get kited. Visage is really hard, but the only thing he’ll teach you is how to micro and how to trilane.
I think Beastmaster is a good all around, flexible fundamentals character. Rubick as well, maybe.
What’s a decent Invoker build? My first bunch of games were just based around getting spell combos down and I’ve got them down pretty well. Mainly just been going for building towards Force Staff, Magic Wand, Drum, and if the game goes long enough and I’m able to farm Eul’s.
Item build dendi goes something like phase boots drums forcestaff blink euls aghs or sheep instead of euls.
Phase drums force
Aghs blink sheep.
Rubick is great because his ult let’s you learn 5 other heroes ults.
I agree with everything you’ve said. That’s why I put emphasis on learning, rather than winning. Because he’s definitely not the easiest hero to win with, nor use effectively, as you’ve all stated. BM is not your newbie hero in a sense that he’s great for your friend who just wanna try Dota out once for funsies, but rather for those who’re committed to learn the game and improve.
That’s one reason I say to random your first 1k matches, to focus on learning instead of winning
