MMH Dark Hole while in flight likely does allow for stuff, because on the ground Dormammu can do c.L, c.M, Dark Hole, c.M, launcher, air series, Purification into Chaotic Flame to some characters. I’ve just never bothered to mess with it because I’m not even sure Flight would last long enough for MMH Dark Hole plus follow-up.
I’m of excited to play umvc3 Dorm.
Sure they took away some of his ground game, but I think the trade off is well worth it.
Sounds brutal. Against the characters that can’t deal with Stalking Flare from across the screen, that sounds like a fullproof plan. The intersting part of this is that a lot of upper tier characters have answers to this type of plan if they have meter so as long as you throw in some smart baits, you can get them to waste meter while keeping your chip game going. Using :l: mass change on prediction of hard tags also sets you up to punish people trying to save their characters from the chip damage.
What I’m trying to say is…FULL SCREEN CONTROL!
You know who has no response to it now?
WOLVERINE OH YEAH! Hahaha.
Yeah, and I don’t necessarily have to fire the Stalking Flares consecutively. Also, since both Firebrand and Morrigan have a buff hyper, if my Stalking Flare isn’t safe I just DHC into Luminous Body or Astral Vision. Of my opponent tries to punish with something like Bionic Arm, I DHC into Dark Silhouette, which has a lot of invincibility frames, and then they eat both hypers. So, even against characters with answers to the Stalking Flare spam, I have an answer for them as well.
Using purification as otg causes the opponent to sky-rocket extremely fast, if you don’t do chaotic flame after the first hit, you’re not going to land it anymore. : /
I landed it all of 2 times at evo. Also you can charge up all 3 dark spells if you fly and his flight speed in general is faster.
Are you sure your execution just wasn’t off because you were in a busy and crowded room on a foreign stick and monitor? No one else has complained about this thus far, and I’ve seen it landed 100% of the time on streams when a competent player was playing. Alternatively, you were fighting Shuma-Gorath, who has unfortunately always been like that.
If you charge 3 Dark Spells during Flight, can you still have time to Mass Change to the ground? I’m glad to hear that.
Just a thought:
With the bigger hitbox on Dark Dimension, does that mean combos like BnB > Big Bang > Dark Hole xx level 3 could be possible? Or maybe the ground bounce after a knockdown is considered grounded and that’s why it connects.
yeah hopefully the entire red wave is the hitbox
Not worried bout the added execution on the purification otg and hyper, nothing a little training can’t fix.
Good to hear about his flight and spell charges.
seems like Dark spells will be Drom’s main go to weapons, thats good to hear since I loved using the spell combos.
(It was a modified TE stick they had us using : | and the monitors were lagless, besides the giant ones.)
Shuma wasn’t in this build, and no, they straight up made it harder(you can visually see it); I wasn’t the only one having that problem.
and no, charging up 3 times eats up all your flight time.
The go-to option was charge up twice, then teleport to avoid falling like a rock.
That would be nice, but I won’t count on it, haha.
Unfortunate, but I suppose most opponents wouldn’t let you charge all 3 anyway, so it won’t matter. Can you only get 1 Purification off before you have to teleport to avoid falling like a rock? I never messed with flight much, but do you become prone if you start a move in Flight and it ends out of Flight, or only if the move starts out of Flight? Or is Flight extended until the move ends?
Correct, 2 purifcations = fall like rock, has to be done in flight otherwise auto-fall after the first one.
If you do a move and flight is just about to end, it’s extended until the move is over.
If you charge up 3 times in fly, during your fall you can still do normals, you just can’t do any other special. It’s similar to doing 2 dark holes during flight.
Honestly I’ve never done 2 Dark Holes in flight, because…yeah, it’s not exactly a situation that would come up. So let me be sure I have this right, and please feel free to correct me:
- Dark Spell without any Flight = 100% prone until landing; no actions, no blocking.
- 2 Dark Spells during Flight = Can still Mass Change, because you have a little Flight time left.
- 3 Dark Spells during Flight = no more specials until landing, but you can attack and block.
Correct?
100% correct sir.
You pass.
Yay.
It’ll be hard to temper my desire to charge 3 Dark Spells and just try to block as best I can on the way down…
Well you can call assists to cover your ass : P It’s not such a bad thing.
Well, since I plan on running Firebrand/Dormammu/Morrigan, I won’t really have an assist to cover my butt, haha.
Anyway, in preparation for UMvC3 I gave Trish/Dormammu/Morrigan a try, with Trish being my “Firebrand”, and it worked surprisingly well. As long as Trish can get to 5 bars, Dormammu can pretty much chip out the enemy team. It has its quirks and holes, but I’m working them out.
Some UMvC3 Dormammu:
I think his Purification and Dark Hole are noticably faster. Dark Spell charges take place just as fast. Some of this guy’s other videos also have Dormammu in them.
This guy uses Dormammu on his main team, but it’s just to anchor. Lots of matches, though, and he’s a solid player.
Purification and Dark Hole definitely looked faster. I feel bad for not paying attention to the speed when I got to play UMVC3
Probably work on a new Dorm team for UMVC3, since this build messes up the Wolvie/Dorm/Akuma, happy family dynamic.
Watch at ~12:10. I have been thinking that Dormammu received a health buff for a while, but look at that combo that’s done on Dormammu. Since there’s no magic pixel anymore, you can tell that after all of that, Dormammu still took less than 50% of his life in damage. It seems unlikely to me that all of those hits did under 500K to Dormammu, though anyone with the time is welcome to double check the damage on that combo.
