Doom missiles - the future... or not? read more

viper strider seems good enough to stick anyone in the middle and have it be effective.

Despite what Ive said, I do think Missiles is probably the best assist in the game. I just dont think its that broken in the grand scheme of things. Magneto is probably the best character at abusing missiles, but Magmissiles doesnt feel nearly as oppressive to me as something like Vergil/Vajra or Zero/Vajra.

Yeah I’m not not a big fan of Viper only having Strider as her neutral assist. He doesn’t really do much but fall down once while you’re having to do most of the hit box work. It’s good for space control but Viper definitely likes something else flooding up the screen and an assist that can actually lock people down. Strider doesn’t really lock down that well. Viper/Vergil/Strider relies a lot on the DHC into Vergil and just hoping Vergil stays alive if he has to fall in so you go nuts. VVS allows Viper to kill off an air throw or ground throw much easier than a lot of her other teams without any real tricks, it’s just now with TAC infinites in the game I can get Viper to kill off of throws while potentially not spending any meter. Especially since the only time I would regularly go for TAC’s at the start of the round is off a throw…it works out.

If Viper had faster movement and teleports it would be better as her only neutral assist, but she’s much more solidified IMO when Vajra is just one of two power assists backing her. She doesn’t need OTG’s so you might as well just have 2 assists to clutter up the neutral as much as possible and give you something that locks people down.

Zero Vajra is mostly scary because Zero will just kill you from just about anywhere on screen if he hits you so he doesn’t really care too much for the hard knockdown property of Vajra. If anything it makes things more difficult for him. It’s just nice having that extra homing hit box making them think while you’re doing your shenanigans. Vergil + Vajra is mainly good because all Vergil does is side switch on your ass all day with ports and forces you to have to attack Strider or be extremely good at evading it to not get put in a mix up. Neither character necessarily converts off of Strider without meter or XF expenditure as well as Viper does.

Wesker and Dante are probably the 2 best at converting off the hard knockdown from Strider with Viper a close 3rd.

Or doing something as simple as the move that will get you away from it but getting auto-corrected and doing that same move back into it

Well yeah that was going to happen since there’s no way to manually control the direction that special move moves in. Only the angle he travels.

Air dashes are a lot better for maneuvering around it since they won’t force auto corrects unless the opponent is already behind you. Which again…Magneto flying around with Magnetic Blasts and j.S’s makes it riskier to call Strider while doing that.

Vajra is too limiting on the characters that can abuse it. The problem is running Vajra as the standalone neutral assist. The person in the second slot has to be able to do this. There are not that many characters that can do this. Doom, dante, wesker, vergil, deadpool, and morrigan. Who else? I find that the people who can use vajra as their standalone neutral assist are the ones with either a teleport or a good zoning game.

Also being able to ToD with the second character is also a problem. Strider’s DHC is weak and he has no TAC infinite. So it is all up to the damage of the second character to kill the person. The only candidates that can do this is Doom and Vergil. Any other characters will be running a reset / zoning game instead.

Another issue is the person you put on a point. Unless you are putting another character that can use Vajra as a standalone neutral assist, you have to be running a character with a strong neutral assist in the second position. The only candidates for this is Doom and Dante and maybe Vergil (rapid slash is decent).

So its either

X/X/Strider (both can use vajra as standalone assist, and second character has a crappy neutral assist)

P/X/Strider (point character can be anyone, second character has to be doom, dante, or vergil)

LeiLei is the future.

wishful thinking.

TBH, I think the game will still have it’s oddball teams and really quirky shit that has decent success at tournaments. top 8s and stuff. i dont necessarily think anyone will need to organize “low tier only” mvC3 tournaments.

As for the prevalence of missiles in high level play, there is very little reason not to include that assist in your team.

OTG
Combo Breaker
Lockdown
Anti-air
Anti-teleport
Helps zoning
Mixups
Doesn+t dissappear when char is hit.

Only reason NOT to have it, is if your character benefits more from other assists. Like Wesker, Vergil, etc

What? Wolverine can do wonders with Missles and create 50/50’s off the lockdown, use it as a combo extender, and create stupid ass mixups with it. The assist is godlike for him in the first 10 or so seconds of the match, and looses a bit of potency after that.

Iron Fist is able to use Missles to snipe people in the air, lockdown, cover his approach, etc.

Hsien-Ko actually becomes somewhat of a decent zoner with Missles. Gong+Missles actually has some good matchups.

She-Hulk can use missles to get tick throws, STUPID raw tags off a missle hitconfirm–> combo–> Raw Tag.

X-23 has GODLIKE Okizeme with missles. Allows her to TOD I believe as well.

Shuma can use Missles, but he works better for the horrizontal coverage of Plasma Beam. In theory however it should allow him to tod as well though and would supplement his great corner game.

Haggar can use it in a myriad of ways to get in on his opponent.

No it doesn’t.

Shuma is still the future though.

Yo Shuma hurry up and get out of the chaos dimension to gimme my incoming mix-up.

Dude’s probably watching T.V in there.

Why I bought this character is beyond me. Probably because of his voice.

BBoy Pose

And that.

i don’t use Doom at all, but I’m ok with Missiles being the best assist. I mean, something has to be the best, right? In most cases, it’s not the end of the world when fighting against a missiles team. Like others have said, you can take the hit in the air then go nuts. Or, if you have your own beam assist, try to call it right before they call missiles and you might get a happy birthday.

for me, the worst is fighting Dormammu + missiles. Cause once he teleports behind you, there’s no way to punish doom (unless you’re Arthur or something), and then you’re forced to deal with the high/low from Dorm’s little tri-dash bubble snaps.

But at least you have time to think for a second. Whereas with something like Wesker + disruptor you gotta watch your ass.
