Don't mess up Sega, Phantasy Star Online 2

ah, this thread made me want to play the old game again…and my Gamecube still works…and I still have all 3 of my old memory cards…

*if Gamestop or Best Buy has a copy of PS: P2 in today, it will be MINE! Ohhhh the suspense is killing me here…they need a game-store that’s open 24/7 like a Walmart. I’ve already checked Walmart this morning during my usual grocery trip but of course they don’t have it.

Offline co-op was the shit back then, y’know? I was lucky to have 2 friends to play with regularly…my old college roommate and his wife were also addicted to the PSO greatness. We would be up playing that shit until people were starting to fall asleep on it. It’s funny when you see a friend’s character suddenly walk into a wall, not doing anything…you look over and the person is K.O. with controller still in hand. Those were some good ol’ times.
More Random stuff:

*I’d bet PSU would’ve been much more popular if there wasn’t the monthly fee…and if the graphics were up to true current generation standards. That was another thing holding it back…it was developed for Ps2 as well, so of course it was made with those limitations in mind. PC and 360 versions were simply a Ps2 game with slightly sharper graphics/resolution.

*I want the bare-handed casting to return in the new game. It’s a bit weak, imo when a character needs to rely on a staff or wand to cast magic. It’s not really in line with the “magic-based attacks” character ideas I think of.

*I’m curious about the # of players out there that are male and play female characters all the time. It would be interesting to see the actual statistic on that. This seems more common with Phantasy Star fans than in other games. I remember being on PSOW forums and noticing an apparent majority of the guys on there (*or maybe it just stood out more to me since I find it to be a strange thing) were usually playing female characters (*especially when it came to Force characters). That’s just a bit on the weird side to say the least, in my opinion. I don’t recall the stat-difference between male and female characters ever being significant, so I always made male characters.

Well…I know with the last few games (starting with PSU…I think) females have more PP than males, which is why many people play them.

Played PSO v1 and v2 for the DC and XBOX a lot, hopefully this will not be as shitty as PSU, or as boring as the portable ones.

FOnewm’s were sick. i was dr. octogon on the dc versions. all pso’s without challenge mode after were boring as shit

Offline coop was fun until the game lags like shit when you go into the bigger rooms.

Which version were you playing? because it ran fine on the Gamecube

nah, I remember there was a problem whenever we got a 4th player. GC version handled 3 players fine from what I recall…but 4 players slowed things down, especially on either Caves or Mines areas. I forgot how this was on the Xbox version, as we only played that for a little while.

I just bought PSPortable2 a little while ago…the wait is still killing me since I have to do a bit of research now on playing it on custom firmware (they apparently put the update right on the game itself; it prompts you to update to the new official firmware before you even get to the title screen!)…I haven’t read up on any of that stuff since wayyyy back when I modded the thing about 2 years ago. I’m tempted to just get a 2nd PSP anyway to be my legit system while the other one remains modded. Or perhaps…I can still go back and forth between official and custom firmwares?

Old news to some—but apparently you can transfer your character from PSPortable 1 over to part 2! Of course, this only applies to name/race/gender and the clothes. You also get an in-game reward/title for transferring. I look forward to playing this. They actually made the humans interesting for a change! (humans and newmans also get a special ability in part 2; the “mirage blast”) Portable 2 is like what PSU should’ve been in the first place.

Looking forward to PSO 2. I got most of my PSO experience from Blue Burst, and I put many hours into it. RAmar was my class of choice.

I wonder if Sega is going to go with instanced dungeons + lobbies where everyone can gather (like before) or if they’re going to go with a full-blown MMO this time? I kinda prefer the former, since it could mean that there won’t be any monthly fees.

This thread as inspired me. When I get a few more bucks and a little more free time, I’m gonna get PSO:BB for PC. But, hell, by that time, PSO2 might be out.

I never experienced slow down but then again I never played 4 players offline, at best it was just me and my little bro and sometimes my other brother as well, but yeah GC 3 players played fine

probably gonna go boot up my old file today and do some random Ultimate runs

psu blog has some gameplay vids posted Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity TGS 2010 Impressions and Videos Phantasy Star Fan Blog One shows off the scorpion boss and an “Infinity Blast”.

lol this

I still wish Suzuki would have done his original idea, and gave us a look at the lives of the Virtua Fighters outside of random tournaments.

also, Dr B only having 17 turrets is an outright shame. His deity status has been revoked in my eyes

Really glad to hear Sonic Team isn’t developing it. Really wish it was Runic Games, but no worries: at least now there’s a chance.

Please no mags. Please no mags. Please no mags.

One of Dan’s alternate outfits turned him into Dr. B. Despite outfits not being programmed to change move properties, this outfit gave Dan infinite range homing Gadoukens that instant-dizzy opponents and red ring their new silent XB360s.

Hey don’t buy the game! I don’t even think you can anyway lol. You would be playing on the private server here SCHTHACK Phantasy Star Online - A Private Server which also has a free download for the translated japanese client that they use which connects to their server automatically.

People have been saying that you can play PSP2 on CFW. They also said that you can play online without the online license. Also, the Mirage Blast is based on TP (magic attack), it is useless as a hunter (except for the special Human one that that takes up attack speed).

The special weapon gotten from PSP1 transfer is a sabre called Exam. It is C-class, has 170 ATP when upgraded to 10, and has 150 ATA. It also has Freeze lvl 2, and a random amount of Ice element. It’s better than a lot of B-class items.

Gamecube version and it only happened when you played 4-players.

I could never get that to work once I switched to windows 7- I’d still be playing today if I could.

I have it working on 64 bit Windows 7. I remember having problems at first when trying to run it from the shortcut created by the installer. I got it to work by running it from the online.exe file inside the installation folder.

My cousin had the same problem when she tried on Windows 7, but there’s a workaround. Run the installation and game as an admin. Should work fine.

When Dr. B orgasms it’s like Grants Level 31. TIMES A MILLION.

so many decisions here…and of course I’m now reading that there is weapon-switch lag on the UMD version. Folks have said it’s about the same as weapon-switch lag from part 1, but I don’t even remember that…hopefully that means it wasn’t noticeable, I guess. Basically, I will most likely go ahead and get the downloadable version as well (later)…and I’m still contemplating getting a second PSP and keeping the other one “magical” status. Apparently there’s a plugin that lets cfw users play the newer games, but I have a bad feeling something will inevitably go horribly wrong with that situation.

Random notes…

-Black Nanoblast hurts and potentially kills other players, apparently? Ehhhhhhh, I’m not liking that. Conceptually, it’s awesome though…“my power is too radical to control…”

-PC/Ps2 servers for PSU were shut down? Yeah, I’ve been out of the loop on PS-related news for quite awhile. I imagine a lot of those fans were pissed off to say the least, considering the online characters in PSU were on those servers. This is the reason I didn’t like that idea in the first place… heh, it’s like the final slap in the face, really. There was probably already some bitter feelings that the portable versions were clearly superior to console PSU in just about every way.
