I’m surprised people are having the most trouble with Gief and Guile, maybe coz I’ve had the most exp against those 2 so far (the 2 main players in my scene use those characters)
I still cant even see straight atm (fuckin’ St. Patty’s day…) but I’ll post some stuff against those 2 characters in a few hours hopefully.
I’ll say this right now, Rufus Ogre and Juri are IMO her worst matchups.
care to emphasize on this? seems that Rolls kill everything i have and i end up having to jump back HP all round as my “Oki” (which is pretty good but still…)
For all the people that are “frustrated” I think you’re all forgetting that this isn’t a pure SF game, it’s a freakin TEAM game now. That’s why you have two characters their to cover for each other’s weaknesses. Also, although each character has their own health bar…you essentially share the same one because once one character dies…you freakin lose the round of course. You setup your character in their most favorable situations (of course everyone should know this) and you do your best to keep them their because obviously not everything goes according to plan. However, the success of this relies heavily on yourself and not the characters.
Asuka is not a freakin SF character. I’m very surprised and pleased that Ono actually made her VERY VERY true to her Tekken incarnation in that she’s a very turtly and counter heavy character that does some big damage. I’m sorry but if you’re trying to play pure footsies with her limbs, you’re looking at her the wrong way and you’re going lose. I’m not saying this is all easy mode, because I honestly feel she’s for people who understand okizeme A LOT and are extremely patient…not a friendly character to start with imo.
Imo she’s most similar to someone like Makoto in terms of relying on good reads and momentum WITH big damage, exctept that her good reads rely heavily on okizeme (Very Tekken-ish). She has godlike meterless damage and the tools she has are unique and ridiculous, just unconventional to a majority of people playing her.
TL;DR: Don’t be an idiot, stubborn, and try to play her like a traditional SF character. Put her in the best freakin situations which is tag canceling into a knockdown/okizeme situation for her (always anchor unless you want to lose) and capitalize. Have patience, no complaining, enjoy the damage, grind it out, and share Asuka knowledge with each other.
First, a counter-based character is always doomed in street fighter, especially when your counter is beat out by a lot of moves.
Second, her damage is not that good. In fact, I’d argue that it’s downright bad considering her weaknesses trying to get in. I can deal a little less with other characters for no meter, and a lot more with meter. Since I’ve been branching out with other characters I’ve noticed this.
Third, her tools are not unique. They’re weaker versions of other character’s tools that require you to spend meter to even make them become useful, and the reward is pretty low damage.
Finally, her oki game is not that good either. Anything she has to setup a cross-up is either heavily telegraphed or easily beaten by most of the cast.
It’s more street fighter than tekken, and counters are a good way to get yourself blown up fast.
As for her oki game It is exceedingly predictable and/or not reliable at times. Her j.hp is her best tool and opponents wise up to that quickly. Her counter is beaten by seemingly random moves (it will counter some shoryus but not all of them) and is not nearly as useful as say, Heihachi’s counter. The two overheads that she has take a long time to come out and are easily punished. Sweep throw has to be ex in order to be of any use. Her pokes are too bad to use as pressure.
The best chance to win as an Asuka player is to hopefully defeat them before they learn your tricks because once they do, you’re screwed. A cornered and/or pressured Asuka is as good as dead.
Well, both Tsuwabuki and Leg cutter are too fast to react to. I don’t know how you can call a 16 frame overhead slow.
The counter doesn’t stop SRK’s that go airborne before they hit, because it doesn’t stop air moves. However, you can OS against those with EX Falling Rain, so you just have to know which character has which.
Ahhh nevermind, you got me all curious there because I was thinking of an on the ground OS…Neverrrmiinnddd.
However, I was having some talks here with the people in my area…don’t laugh at me when I say that we compare this game to XvSF without the Vs. mechanics obviously.
Hm, I haven’t had any disproportionate problems with Rufus or Ogre so far. Rufus is pretty much the same against everyone, and Asuka’s ability to kill him once you land a hit is good.
I don’t find that Ogre really… does much of anything, to be honest. But I think that has to do with playing Jin/Asuka - Jin makes me not have to deal with the worst parts of turtle characters. He also helps me a lot against Guile and Juri.
My biggest problem is Zangief, because I don’t know how to fight him with Jin yet. I could go Juri/Asuka for that matchup, maybe.
On the other side, I feel pretty confident in the matchup against Kazuya now that I know his move properties.
his is kinda weird — different animations for standing / low attacks. i think he only gets the ground bounce off the former, and throws you across the screen for the latter.
Has anyone tested if her counter can counter supers at all? Or maybe the ex-counter. Also I’m still a bit unfamiliar with if it blocks low attacks or not. Sometimes i’ve had low attacks (could have been mid but it looked like it hit low) where it will counter and other times it wont.
