So I was driving down Hawthorne boulevard and I was shocked to find out:
After twenty years of business in Torrance Gameland has finally gone out of business. I’m shocked. I thought that place was gonna last forever. RIP Gameland.
Before Gamestop, before Hyper Game Action, Gameland was the first store to do the trade in games for cash and was also to have Japanese import games. Back in the day Japanese import games were important because that meant you could own SF games six months before they were release in the US. That meant even though the Alpha 1,2,and 3 arcade version was in the US, you could go home an practice on the Japanese version if you owned it.
Critics of Gameland say that the owner was a dick and provided bad customer service. A lot of people would also say that the prices for his games were too high. This is all true but this place was a landmark in Torrance for many years.
So with Aladdin’s in Del Amo and Penny arcade in Hermosa gone about almost a decade ago and now Gameland is gone, all the video game landmarks in Torrance/South Bay are vanquished.
RIP Gameland, but yeah, the owner was a dick with outrageous prices.
xbox live arcade was probably the final nail in the coffin… now no one was going to buy that aging 179.95 copy of DC MVC2 when its out on psn? and live arcade.
4th street and ac closing was when i shed my tears.
yeah, that place wont be missed that much. it was like gamestop, but worse. i remember trading in like 5 games just to get one game. that game was 7th saga for the snes, and i remember trading in megaman x something and street fighter. worst trade ever.
vortex died, not phenom, and btw i have no association with AMD whatsoever, that place sucked btw, they wouldn’t give me sfiv before the official release date lol.
I remember Hyper Game Action. I had my SNES “clipped” to play Japanese games there when I was little. It was nearly right across the street from my house.
hey im real interested in laying some 3rd strike

we’re meeting until the 26th because most of us are going down to the team tournament in Denjin tomorrow, check out the tournament page it’s going to be fun.
I got some competition at Family Arcade here in LA last night. ha i got to learn how to adapt to the Zangief, Akuma, Abel mirror, Chun-li, Ryu and Blanka matchups.
After driving for almost 2 hours on the fkn rain to just get there and lose in 5 minutes, I’m mad. I think I’m actually going to start practicing 'cause this is bullshit
Like I’ve said before, you’re all scrubs. You want to get to become better players, stop playing in your comfort zone. Get out to as many tournaments as possible and stop being predictable. Just because you know specific matchups, doesn’t mean you’re eligible to be a top player.
I keep telling Phenomenub that to at least be decent he gotta play a lot in the arcade. But he just rather stay home or in Torrance/Southbay to play. You can’t be tournament ready like that. Especially if your first serious SF was SF4 and you got no experience in ST or 3S. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. SF is an investment. You got to invest time and money to be really good. If you can’t get a ten or twenty game winning streak in a competitive night at the arcade then you will be toast in a tournament.
Btw Shutter Island is a great fucking movie. I’m gonna watch it again. Scorsese rules!!! Unparellel filmmaking. Greatest director ever. Better then Kubrick, Hitchcock, Fellini, Kurosawa, and everyone else.
Don’t get smart. You know what I mean. You want me to start charging you? Cause I will. You and only you. $2.00 a game you cheapskate freeloading bastard who uses coupons at Jack In The Box to buy 99 cent tacos. Damn always leeching.
I’m an active tournament player in the 3rd strike community who has tournament experience and doesn’t complain about when I lose, where I lose or how I lose in a tournament. I am a player who doesn’t stick to just one local place with people I know thinking I am good at a game and doesn’t need improvement. I am a player that realizes that there is the potential for infinite growth in expanding my knowledge of fighting games and doesn’t try to make smart ass remarks when someone is trying to give them honest advice to become a better player.
Who the fuck are you?
You are a player who thinks they can hang with the big boys without ever playing them. You are a player who has dreams to one day become a top tier player but lacks the common knowledge to become one. You are a player who complains about making a trip to an arcade and gets peaced out the first round when you should be analyzing why you lost and trying to learn from it.
Seriously, I know you’re trying to be a smart ass. Stop. It’s not funny. Nobody is laughing at your smart ass remarks but you. Yes, I dislike SF4. Yes, I talk a lot of shit on that game. Why do I show up to Don’s house? Besides to hang out and have a good time, it’s to show other players what they need to work on to help them level up. Yea, I’m not a top tier player, but I understand how top tier players play and understand the way they think when they are playing. If you wanna keep being a douche bag than you can keep being a scrub at every game you touch. You will never get better, no matter how much you play. You seriously need to check you attitude.
