Exactly what I was thinking, only you said it better.
Let me get this off my chest.
Ok hereâs a thing about the Star Wars prequels. A lot of hardcore Star Wars fans who know everything about the first series is that a lot of their expectations were violated when the prequels came out. In the first Star Wars series Obi Wan mentions that Yoda trains him and that Obi Wan tells Luke that when he met his father he knew him as a great pilot (Assuming that they were in the academy together). Also itâs either Yoda or Obi Wan mention about the trials of how to become a Jedi. In other words Jedi in training have to go through training trials before they officially become Jedi. They also mention Obi Wan and Annakin fighting in the pit which was seen in the prequels. And of course the clone wars.
A lot of Star Wars fans were expecting that Lucas was suppose to visualize all these things. So after the prequels come out, none of this gets visualized. We donât see Yoda training Obi Wan. There are no awesome sequences of Jedi training trials. The clone wars is just a background story instead of the main story which was anticipated. Instead we get a cheesy doomed love story with Padme and the weird creation of Jar Jar. And when Obi Wan first sees Annakin, it was anticipated that he was a great pilot but instead Obi first sees Annakin as a little kid who is a great âpod racerâ. That is far from what was expected. Annakin was suppose to be a young man around the same age as Obi Wan who was a great air fighter. In defense of George Lucas when it comes to the prequels. I think he got caught up with making the best special effects technology instead of focusing on the story and the characters. The prequels are a monument to special effects technology but severely lacking in character in story. Although I would say I like the prequels a lot.
So there you have it. The Star Wars series is both loved and hated and mainly by the same fans. Mainly because Lucas didnât give the fans what they wanted. They had this great expectation of what they wanted to see but never saw it. I want to see the documentary The People Vs George Lucas where it shows how the fans who love the first Star Wars are the same ones who hate the prequels. They all hate George Lucas for making it. Itâs not out on dvd yet.
Not trying to be nit picky, but the prequel story was actually, much, much better done in the animated and CG works of the Clone Wars. You donât get to see Anakin doing the trials himself, but you do get to see them done by his apprentice several times and what they had to go through without their masters around. And as far as I remember about being a great pilot, but itâs mentioned so many times how much better a pilot Anakin is compared to Obi Wan, not to mention they were both generals of the army.
Basically, TLDR, the fans got their full fan service of what they wanted from the prequels off the big screen and on the television.
Disagree lol. For a Saga that was like 20 years in the making it had to be fulfilling. Story wise I donât think it came close. The animated for a lot of people donât count. IMO it has to be in the films. Especially for cinema guys.
But I do admit despite all the money Lucas threw at the prequels, the magic wasnât there like in the old ones. It begins with the miscasting of Hayden Christensen for Annakin. Ryan Gosling shouldâve been Annakin. He wouldâve been great. Gosling auditioned for Annakin and Lucas selected Hayden.
Basically the magic wasnât there like it was in 70âs. Just like Coppola in the 70âs where they could do no wrong. Only Scorsese and Spielberg only stayed great once the 70âs were over. Theyâre all friends btw. Lucas, Spielberg, Coppola, De Palma, and Scorsese are known as the movie brats.

That was good. Thank you I watched all the reviews. Funny.

Hope to see yâall tonight.
So is that why I enjoy all of their movies? They are all best friends <3
LOL, real talk though, I enjoyed Revenge of the Sith. Better than the other 2 prequel movies.
Revenge of the Sith was good, up until the rushed ending.
Yup believe it or not kid movie maker Spielberg helped edited both Scorseseâs Taxi Driver and De Palmaâs Scarface. Scorsese wrote the main draft of Schindlerâs List and traded the assignment with Spielberg for Cape Fear. Coppola produced Lucasâs American Graffiti. Of course Spielberg directed Lucasâs idea of Indiana Jones. To me overall Scorsese is the best and then Spielberg but no one has ever made something as commercially and artistically successful at the same time as Godfather I and Godfather II which was made by Coppola. And even though it has been commercially raped and milked forever, no one has ever created a pure cinematic epic mythology like Star Wars. Lord of the Rings was a classic book first. All those comic book movies were comics first. Star Wars is originally from the medium of film. And believe it or not George Lucas is an independent filmmaker lol.
Revenge of the Sith IMO is one of the best.
^Interesting stuff, thatâs pretty crazy. I actually like some of their other stuff. No one I know ever talks about Apocalypse Now and I actually prefer that film over Godfather. Not knocking it, I find those films to be incredible. Thing is I have to be in the mood to watch Godfather while Apocalypse Now I can just watch at any moment. I liked Outsiders too only because I loved the book to death.
Scorsese and Spielberg have too many movies that are good imo. I canât pick which ones I like most, though I never get tired of Casino or The Last Crusade.
I know that he didnât direct them (producer) but I enjoyed Don Bluths cartoon movies. An American Tail and The Land Before Time are awesome. Really Don Bluth is all around awesome.
Apocalyspe Now is great but unlike Godfather 1 and 2 itâs just fully realized. Coppola accomplished a lot in GF 1 and more so in GF2 so when he wanted to make AN he wanted to top himself. So he really went all out. Thing he wanted to do with the film was make a spectacular scene and top it with another an even more spectacular scene but that was impossible. Also the script was problematic in that it wasnât fully establish. Also Brando who was the main villian of the film didnât cooperate because he was mad at Hollywood and didnât learn his lines. So everything Brando did was made up on the set and didnât fit the script. So everything that was suppose to be build up to the end was sabotage.
Itâs still a great film but it canât overcome these glaring flaws. It was also a time where Coppola thought he could do anything. And he did with Godfather II. That is the most epic film ever made that covers a lot and feels like everything belongs there.
First sentence confused a bit. You are saying that Apocalypse Now WASNâT fully realized?
Well I guess it makes some sense, but the thing is the flaws in the movie give it some charm. I think it is because of how each character in the movie isnât perfect, everyone has their flaws and being that the scrip was slightly different, one can argue that this was because of Brandoâs descent into madness. At least, that is what I like to think.
Hook is #1 in my heart.
Yes it wasnât fully realized is what I meant. Brando is perhaps my favorite actor but he didnât try at all even though the performance is ok. If he actually tried it wouldâve enhance the film greatly. I mean the whole build up to the film is to find and kill Brando and when we finally meet him I donât know. You can tell heâs just bullshitting the whole way. What he says doesnât fit in the script because he didnât learn it. From the beginning we already know heâs mad but when we meet him we get no insight nothing. Just a mumbler. Itâs dissapointment from a world class actor. Dennis Hopper actually saves the end. He was great. Hopper was Coppolaâs insurance policy when Brando couldnât deliver in the end.
One of Brandoâs most underrated performances is in Don Juan Demarco. Where he plays Johnny Deppâs psychologist. Heâs great in that.
You do not come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Moe Greene like that!
You never side against the family.
i shall be there todayâŚand stuff
