I was thinking about getting the D&D’s since I talked to my friend this weekend, who is also a fellow collector, and he told me that D&D is a real collector’s item. He said that D&D and AVP is pretty hard to find.
I want to get D&D since it’s a good game to have for people who don’t play fighting games a la Puzzle Fighter.
My brother told me that in D&D you could save your game just by typing in your initials and that’s what made it great. Is this true?
You know I am not too sure. Its been a cool minute since I played it at the arcade. I know you can put 6 letters for your name, but aside for that I dont know.
I hate when I get a new cabinet because I start playing it all the time. Usually I never turn on my machines until Friday but when ever I get a new cab I just keep playing it and playing it, making sure everything works and then I start getting addicted. That’s why Alpha 2 is in it because I can’t play MVC1 or have fun with it. And now I’m like super addicted to Alpha 2. I don’t know if it’s the game or it’s because I played it so much when I was a kid. My brother said we played this game too much before back in the day with everyone.
After playing both Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 a lot, my final verdict is that Alpha 2 is more for American sensibilities while Alpha 3 is for more Japanese sensibilities. Even though I like A3 better, A2 has an old school charm to it. The characters for some reason are bigger than in Alpha 3 and it’s nice to know that you start with an empty super meter in the beginning.
You know come to think of it, I just thought of this right now, a lot of people complain that you start off with a full super meter in Alpha 3 and think it’s stupid because you should start empty and build your meter. I think it’s better to start with a full meter in Alpha 3 because it’s actually more practical. In A3 if you select X-Ism Ryu, you have one long super bar that’s hard to build up in one round. Because the X-Ism meter is so long, if you started off empty like in A2, you might not be able to build a super meter in a match in A3. I always wondered why you started off with a full super meter in A3 but then I realize that because of a long X-Ism super bar, Capcom made a good decision. Personally I think that X-Ism would be a non factor in A3 if you had to build meter every round. I mean this is why P Groove sucks in CVS2. It takes forever to build your super meter. Imagine how strong P Groove would be if you started the match with it full.
I can’t pinpoint it but I think it’s the hit boxes. Maybe the physics are too weird to me as well. Hang-time in the game feels like it is just a ST sped up and ST is scary enough on it’s own, let alone sped up. You know how I like to jump a lot, it makes it look more like a ninja fight which imo is much cooler than good japanese guy vs american soldier vs Thai kickboxer vs French gypsy vs japanese schoolgirl vs Australian inmate vs Afro American boxer vs Evil spanish dude vs etc etc
That actually makes a lot of sense. I always thought it was just about making it more exciting. Yeah, what a simple way to put it, but I mean let’s pretend they were hosting a real fighting tournament year after year.
Year 1, they made it however they might have made it. You can pick this type of fighter and each of them has their own unique special abilities and each have a super attack. They each have a harder/easier time against a certain fighter and it is good.
Year 2, they add a few more characters and the ability to extend the few combos you have into longer combos but only if you have the skill to execute them quickly and without missing a beat. The only way you can overcome disadvantage is to improve upon yourself.
Year 3, they want to make it a little more level because they noticed how unfair the quick combo turned out to be for the intro level fighter. Fighters that didn’t know the combos didn’t stand a chance. Now You get a choice of a stronger super, the ability to extend your combo and I forget what the regular one does. On top of that you can execute it whenever you want before you have to rebuild the meter needed to execute said super ability because you start out with a full bar. This means if he lands an insane combo on you, you can use the time he’d spend building a meter to try and land your overpowered super attack. This way, even if your opponent is leagues ahead of you, you can land your super and hit but the pace of the game makes this a lot easier said than done.
I guess SF4 is alpha without the options and extended combos and instead you are given a reduced pace.
Alpha would definitely help improve a person’s reaction speed, I’m sure. I think I am going to get on that Alpha next time. Definitely.
Any character descriptions and recommendations? By descriptions I mean, 3s Ken is overall balanced with plenty of mix up options and good hit confirms but everyone knows how he plays so his once revered status isn’t so scary anymore. In the right hands, though, he is as scary as a Chun/Yun.
Lol. I like your descriptions on the Alpha characters. That was funny. But I think that Rose is an Italian Gypsy (Although it would be better if she was French) and Cody is an American from Metro City, USA (That’s the name of the city in Final Fight). But whatever. Who knows Rose might be french and Cody may be an Aussie.
Super Turbo is faster than any of the Alphas. Super Turbo is probably the fastest Street Fighter ever made although Alpha is pretty fast too. Super Turbo is faster than MVC2 I think. That’s why it’s funny when SSF4 players first play ST and think it’s an old outdated game and then when they play it, they are overwhelmed and shocked by the speed lol.
IMO ST is a lot like MVC2. Incredible speed and high damage. How long does the average MVC2 game last? ST games can last 10 seconds each round. That’s why both games made so much money in the arcades. The games were too quick. Now CVS2, that’s a game where the matches can last forever.
I’m always willing to take in a new soul for 3S. Who are you interested in using?
Have fun checking out Alex’s. It’s a cool little arcade. My only problem with it, is that the players don’t play anything but MVC2/MVC3 and SSF4 AE. No 3S machine there and when they had one no one played it. They even had ST and A2 but no one played it either so they took it out. But they did play CVS2 for a while but that died too. They still have the CVS2 machine there. So it’s pretty much a MVC2/MVC3/SSF4 AE arcade which is fine. But being the hotspot for fighting games in the OC, they got to have 3S. They got to have at least one 3S machine in the OC. But that’s just my opinion.
I’m gonna take out Vampire Savior and Alpha 3 so that I can put back in my other two Third Strikes.
Sorry people who play Vampire Savior and Alpha 3. Actually no one but me and Galzpanic plays Alpha 3 but I know that everyone likes looking at Vampire Savior. Alpha 2 will still be in.
