It would be cool to see SF4 a part of that time based play though.

At Round 1, it costs $9 for a full hour of unlimited play where there are green sliders. It costs $5 to activate the card though. That device where you slide the cards is a different color on Tekken Tag 2 and SF4. The other fighting games was all fair game however.

CvS1 is interesting, I find that the damage output is ridiculous though.

Card system looks like its the future. If all the So Cal arcades here left installed a card system, it would probably be way better for their business. Because its just not one drop. It demonitizes everything so people dont feel like theyre putting money. It’s very flexible. You could also break it into time like how you did. $9 for unlimited play for an hour.

It’s expensive though to install a card system but if the last arcade vendors here do care about their business and want to hang on to this arcade scene IMO it’s the only way to go.

I agree, but it’s only affordable by rich arcade operators, such as Round1 joints. It guarantees profit from individual customers, and helps to retain them as well. Anybody can dump $20 in a change machine and only use a fraction of it to play games, but with the card system, ALL of that goes into their pockets immediately.

It’s like the token system, only much more convenient.

I think a card system is fine, I have no issue with it.

I just have issues with the limitations that it brings. The girl that attended me at Round 1 sounded like all the fighting games were part of that $9 unlimited play. I asked specifically for Street Fighter and she said yes. But surprise! It wasn’t part of that unlimited play. Regency Fun Center actually went for a card system, but last time I went there the old school games were still $0.25 a game. Of course if Round 1 wanted to, they can simply change this. I think what will happen is that SF4 and Tekken will be unlimited play during the week and not on weekends.

Also it was funny seeing this guy at Round 1. The dude commentating next to Yipes, Tastee Steve, was working at this Round 1.

$9 unlimited play for AE during the week would be perfect. People just need to find a way to organize things and get a consistent group of people there.

How’s the turnout for Round 1 been so far? I’m hoping this arcade does well so maybe we can get an arcade in my area too. Maybe it needs its own separate regional thread.

Round1 is alright everytime I been. Only two or three playing SF4.

I realize that in any business, especially this arcade business, not saying I’m a business, you have to be schrewd to cover your bets.

I think we or I dream of the times back then when Champion Edition was paying rent three-five times over and hords of players were just handing their quarters over. That time is not coming back and players if they want their beloved arcade scene have to realize it. I’m really only talking about SF4 because its today’s game. $1 a play is not unreasonable. $.25 is for old games. Perhaps why they don’t have the Capcom 5 at Round1 i.e. 3S, MVC3, CVS2, ST, and A3 (or A2). They want players to play AE and Tekken.

One person who sold me a machine long ago told me CVS2 and MVC2 has to be $.50. If you’re playing 3 characters it has to be $.50.

You do have to try to make all these games economically make sense so that you can keep it going.

Yo Don! Check this out. It is basically a Netflix type thing only with arcade cabinets. $75 bucks a month, rent out classic machines. Free dlivery as well.
