Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

It’s just a different form of dick measuring. Rich guys compare cars, women, and profits. Collectors compare their collections to see who’s “bigger.” It’s a problem as old as jealousy and pride itself.

You’re right El: The formula Capcom came up with in SF2 was classic like Coca-Cola. To be honest with you no other company really improved upon it. You could say only Capcom “updated or evolved” the formula better than no other company with later games like Marvel, Vampire, and 3S.

Lolololololololol dick measuring.

Oh one common complaint from collectors:

“Oh I don’t collect CPS-3 because it only has six games.”

CPS-3 if you don’t know is the system that has Third Strike.

But to someone who has no idea what Third Strike is, or has no idea that there’s a SF game made after SF2, you wouldn’t care.

Also it’s dumb that the CPS-3 board is pretty finicky. Once the battery dies out, you’re fucked, unless you want to pay some dude up in Canada or Japan TONS of money to correct it.

How did you meet up with these guys? They’re like the complete opposite of how you view your arcade board collection. lol.

Oh my friend who also lives in Torrance is the tech guy who Phoenixes my boards. When I went to his apartment one day, a collector guy was there and we were introduced. My friend told him all about my arcade and then of course he told other people and it spread like wild fire to the collector community. So I was getting to know all these other collector guys. The good thing about knowing this collector community is that you know where the stuff is if you need anything and you get to know the other techs who can fix boards. The techs are not official, they’re just amatuers with skill who really like fixing arcade boards.

CPS-3 is in the process of being cracked but don’t take my word for it. Right now they found out that the 2nd Impact cart DOES NOT SUICIDE. Capcom fucked up. So the techs are trying to study the 2nd Impact cart and making it work on the other CPS-3 games. They just found this out last week.

Along with this news is the hacked CD’s where you can play any region of 3S depending on what region you burn on the hack cd. It’s taking a while but finally a break through.

Did you know you can play 3S on a New Generation board? I saw it with my own eyes. Still battery powered though.

Ok this Friday, everyone who is coming over must wear suits. That way we can change the arcade culture in So Cal and give it a more professional appeal:p

Oh shit. Don going e-sports on us? Are you going to ban cursing too? And players who pop-off have to shake hands and debate about the merits of their skills and abilities? No sanctioned money matches unless you take 10% off the top? I like that. lol.

I am doing this. Don’t talk me out of it. I’m e-sports now. :sunglasses:

Good luck wearing a suit in a hot ass arcade. You’re going to be sweating balls and giving off some very unique and unusual odors. We already get plenty of that at the arcade thanks to that ONE random dude who either didn’t put on deodorant, or sweats like a pig.

You’re asking for too much. =(
The most you’ll get out of me is a collared shirt. lol

Stipulation:

If Don wears a full-on Tuxedo with all of the trimmings, we’ll wear suits (button-up shirt and tie).

And I do mean a tuxedo. Real bow tie, shiny ass shoes, dress slacks, everything. Show up as if you were a groom at the wedding. lol.

Lol. I wasn’t thinking about wearing suits to conform with esports I was thinking of wearing suits so all of us could look more like Japanese businessmen haha.

My purpose is to change the image of the So Cal arcade goer. Instead of a guy who wears a wrinkled T-Shirt and faded jeans and who hasn’t shaved in a week, I want the So Cal arcade goer to look more like the Japanese businessmen who play ST.

So in addition to a business suit, everyone must also bring in a briefcase.

For the real Japanese business experience, we gotta do this:
[]work 10-12 hour daily shifts
[
]come to the arcade looking disheveled, wrinkles on the suit, hair all fucked up
[]chain smoke like a boss in the arcade
[
]close all the doors and windows
[]raise prices to $1/play
[
]play trance music
There we go. That outta keep things legimate. lol.

As far as the whole Japanese businessmen thing, Japan gets FAR more foot traffic than we do here in the States. Businessmen take the trains and subways every day to go to work, so it’s likely they pop by in the arcades after work because it’s already on their walking route. That’s the reason why any and all successful arcades in Japan right now are located in close proximity to train station junctions.

Nobody here in the States is going to drive 20 minutes out of way, every day, to play in an arcade. If anything, they’re going to go home, shower, eat, change, and then drive to the arcade, if you’re lucky to be living close to one. It’s a cultural difference.

With the exception of Japan Arcade, everything is AT LEAST 45 minutes away :frowning:

At least we can pretend?

That would actually be a funny gimmick. Top SF players dress up in suits and carry brief cases to pay homage to the Japanese businessman lol.

Someone should start a fashion movement when going to So Cal arcades lol.

Combofiend kind of started that, although it definitely wasn’t a fashion trend. He just went straight to WNF after work, so dude would come in the arcade straight up wearing his purple button-up shirt, dress slacks, loafers, and all. lol. I think they started to call him Peter “Gucchi” rosas on stream.

Sucks for you. 20 minutes to Alex’s Arcade, 25 minutes to Super Arcade for me. It pays to live close to freeway on-ramps.

I live close to two freeways, everything is just so fucking far away. I’m from South Gate, dead location for competition.

Ouch, you’re right. You are like the perfect distance to be as far away from most arcades as possible.
