Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

Who from here is actually going to EVO? Asking because I’m highly interested in going, but I’d much much much prefer to go with faces that I recognize and that’s a fair group of you. And also, there’s essentially now a limit on how many people are going to be able to attend, so I’d like to make plans ASAP with some people from here. Easier, however, if I can get squeezed in with you guys. :]

Alax and I talked about going to Evo a few months back, but I’m not sure if he’s still going. I haven’t reserved anything yet, but I really need to. He was going to be my ride there, but between our jobs taking up a lot of our time and the cost to stay the week in Las Vegas, I don’t know. D=

Oh you guys wanted to stay the WHOLE week? Good lawdy. Yeah I was expecting to do what I did back in 2008, go Friday, come back Sunday cause I like night driving. Or anything similar to that.

Not so sure if he wanted to stay the whole week, but I did want to meet up with the guys from IGL for their meet-and-greet before EVO. To be fair, I hate crowds, so I personally wouldn’t want to stay for too long. Was the traffic really bad when you went?

When I went, I left Friday morning around 8am, a little before. Got there around 11, because there wasn’t shiiiiiit for traffic once I got onto the 60. And actually, I take back what I said about coming home Sunday. I had to come back Saturday because the hotel I was staying at, while cheap, never got my information I can confirmed like two or three days before hand.

Traffic’s pretty easy depending on when you head out and head back. I’m pretty sure traffic coming back on a Sunday night, LATE sunday night not evening, would be okay.

No I was just one of the many people he beat up at FFA. He’s a great player. I was more friendly with the 3S players and Camelot and Regency but just a little bit. I don’t know back in the day guys weren’t as friendly with one another as they are today lol.

Thank you everyone for showing up last Friday. We had eight people but the good thing was that it was mainly for ST and 3S. Intense sessions for those games. Thank you Herman, Mr. 12, Kevin, Laura, Outforjustice, The Absolute, Galzpanic, and John.

Let’s do this again Friday.

Go Clippers!!!

I would have gone to Evo if Anime Expo wasn’t so close to it. They are literally a week apart. :frowning:

Tonight we shall have a gathering. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new who wishes to join us please text me at 310 344 9367. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready when I ask.

Hope to see y’all tonight.

How is the CvS2 comp these days Don? Been meaning to go up there for some time now…

Hey Suga. The only CVS2 comp here is Allen, Galzpanic, John, and sometime Mr.12. So it’s random.

So right now there’s a Super Turbo revival at my place and 3S is going strong as always. A couple people text me tonight about wanting to play CVS2. I sadly had to tell them that no one tonight was playing CVS2:( If we could have some consistency with CVS2 like we do with ST and 3S then maybe we could have a CVS2 revival too:)

Wouldn’t have been able to go today regardless. My mother had eye surgery so I had to stick around in case she needed any help.

CvS2 revival seems kinda of a stretch though. I basically started to play the game when no one cared about it except for some old timers who use to play at UCLA.

Good games to the sf4 people, it was really fun and I realized some things i need to work on. Anyways I’m Reggie the Mak player. really hit me that I need to start working on jumping less lol. Also need work on my execution.

I wanna play 3s more but since the last time I’ve played here i’ve been afraid to press buttons. I get parried like 90% of the time and I throw WAY more than I attack lol

GG to you Reggie. I’m the dude who played Ibuki. You know your block strings and frame traps pretty well, and you don’t seem to have too hard of a time dealing with kunai vortex. You actually force me to play smarter with safe jumps and stuff, lol. Looking forward to playing you guys again.

GGs to everybody I played ST against. Me and MillerTime had a great time, and look forward to coming back in the near future. Don, I gotta play a long set against you next time, I gotta work on polishing up my main characters.

GGs everyone. Karafail and Herman, you guys are getting a lot stronger every time we play…but I’m still winning the footsies war, however, so HA! =D

I still owe you, Don, so I’ll make sure to give you what I owe next week. I am a good Samaritan like that…you know, up until my hand touches the cab with only murderous intent in mind! =D

3s is about taking your time, playing smart, and pacing. Even if your opponent scares you from pressing buttons, it’s usually because they’re all about counter-hitting, or want to condition you for punishment. Best way around this stuff is to simply walk forward to force ranges on your opponent despite how illogical that may sound in the heat of battle. Unless you’re playing an absolute pro, most people don’t have a plan B if they can’t play how they want. It’s not a neutral heavy game like SF4 that emphasizes strict setups with exact solutions, which is why most people hate the “unpredictability” of 3s. It’s all about flow, rhythm, and deliberateness, like Guilty Gear or Mark of the Wolves…just to masochistic degrees.

Guys like Herman, for example, will parry everything, but if you control his spacing (not attacking, just moving) and intentionally force his hand, 8 times out of 10 (because there’s always a 20% chance someone will go retard on you for no reason), he will attempt to adapt to your gameplay until he can go aggro properly…and he’s no joke when he gets to do what he wants. You anticipate the aggression, bait it out, punish 2-3 times (because this is how long it takes for people to wake-up), then look at what options they have to escape. You eclipse those options with a safe counter-hit setup during the most extreme push of momentum and BOOM, your opponent is in limbo – you’re free to rape them however you please. Tick-throw setup here, string pressure there for conditioning reasons, then you start from square one again since at this point, they’re going to be frustrated. If you’re throwing out attacks to establish spacing for peace of mind or pressure, you’re playing 3s wrong; you’re technically telegraphing patterns and intentions without realizing it subconsciously, which is the inverse of how you play any other SF game ever created, ironically.

And yet again, I find myself ranting about 3s at the crack of dawn. Yay me…=/

3S is like your first college class course. Study the hell out of your opponent as much as you can and you better get savvy on some of their shenanigans. And then you better know some of the BS the characters themselves can do. It’s a brain game, and shall never retire!

My first college course I BS’d and I received an A.

Pull that same shit on Third Strike and it won’t work.

IT WILL IF YOU GO TO A COMMUNITY COLLEGE ARCADE.

LIKE ME.

Cal State University LA Arcade (R.I.P :frowning: )

I played with folks who were mean players back in the day, older cats. Got my shit wrecked up and down the block. None of that SF4 state of mind. And I thought I brought my “A Game” so to speak.

While I made the English 101 class my bitch without breaking a sweat.

Awesome night last Friday night. We had 16 ppl. And we also had new ST players. Thank you Nick, Eltrouble, Millertime, Karafail, Kevin, Laura, Ryan, Herman, Mr. 12, Lee, Ninjabee, John, SpacedOutCadet, Marshall, Outforjustice, and Anthony.

Thank you everyone.

Can someone out there make a SoCal CVS2 group on facebook. With Galzpanic, Allen, and Sugafree going to my place I think we have a chance to build off of that.

So thanks again and let’s try this again on Friday.
