Don's Arcade aka Astro City: Torrance/Carson Fridays 8pm-3am

It almost sounds like there was some downtime between 97’ to 02’, which was when ALL of the good games had just come out. 04’, I know for a fact, was when 3rd strike became a main game for Evo and brought in a ton of new people. At the same time though, American 3s was so far behind and struggling that the majority of people were still not really into it (04’-06’ being the best years for everything with 08’ being super lackluster). So~~~, would 02’ be the best window in the timeline to say that the scene reinvigorated itself? It would make sense since Marvel 2 and CvS2 had just come out, Evo was finally called Evo, 3s was picking up after the whole Tokido Aegis Reflector blow up, and 3D fighters weren’t nearly as dominate in the market.

Very few in America played Super Turbo, Vampire Series, and Three Series when they first came out. Alpha was moderately popular. Alpha 2, although a good game, wasn’t distributed well. Alpha 3 was rare. If you go to a lot of remaining arcades today that’s why you see a lot of Alpha Ones. I think after a lot of arcades bought Alpha One they didn’t bother buying the rest.

Tekken was quite popular in it’s day. It eclisped Street Fighter.

But the best era even though I was a scrubby little kid was Champion Edition and Hyper Fighting. I think ppl forget how big a deal those games really were. You can’t compare the mania of those days. It was that and MK2.

MK1 and MK2 were my childhood. Same with Tekken 2, Tekken 3, and Virtua Fighter. They were the first real fighting games that I played nonstop every single day with friends, and my friends weren’t even big on fighters to begin with. Wait no, that’s only half true…I think they bought a lot of fighters including Shaq Fu. Granted, if I were to play them now, I’d probably be mad over the amount of broken and useless things in those games. It’s funny because even though I personally disliked the Capcom fighters growing up aside from Marvel, now they’re the only games I ever want to play. =P

New Gen looked scary the first time I saw that game in the arcades, though. It was super pretty looking, but everything was just insanely over the top and lightning fast compared to all of the other arcade games. I think I was more interested in Tekken Tag 1 at the time.

Tonight we shall have a gathering. Anyone and everyone is invited. The more the merrier. Anyone new who wants to join please text me at 310 344 9367. I’ll be going around to collect the E fee so please have it ready when I ask.

Hope to see y’all tonight.

No Vampire Savior tonight. Instead there will be Hyper Fighting.

Is anyone going tonight that passes by LAX? Willing to pitch gas money for a ride!

GGs all. It’s nice to see all of the regulars back and playing well.

I’m noticing that you’re struggling a lot against me these days, Don. That age is kicking in, huh? Those reflexes are just gone, huh? It’s okay Don, you’re still a winner in my book.

Don your Hyper Fighting TV/TE setup was the fucking tits and it felt great playing an old arcade classic without feeling like I need to develop Hulk strength just to compete (I’m looking at you Happ parts that I used to love). Hopefully next time we get some ST games in before I’ve got to take off. GG’s to the OG Ryu facing down my 7-Eleven cheeseball scrub tactics for 40 minutes.

Also GG’s to the 3rd strike Ibuki tapdancing all over my Dudley’s face- you inspired me bro, I need to get my shit together and level up my shenanigans.

That would be me, kind sir. It is very very difficult to play her on a competitive level consistently, but I’m glad she entertained you nonetheless! =D

Thank you everyone for showing up on Friday night. It was fun. We had tweleve people show up. Thank you Django, Kevin, Ryan, Quan, Karafail, Julius, ALAX, John, Reggie, DJTeddyEddy, and Mr. 12. And special no thanks to Muraz:p

Thanks everyone and let’s try this again on Friday.

GGs all. I managed to get two winning streaks (22 and 35) with Ibuki. Yay~! Now I must train to consistently win 40 matches in a row…and actually win 1 match in AE while I’m at it! =O

BTW Don, apparently some of the games aren’t completely up to date. KOF 13 is dated and~…I’m not so sure about the others, I’ll have to ask around.

PSN = mightywizardstaf to all relevant parties.

Soul Calibur V incoming!

Thank you everyone for showing up on Friday night and making it an event. It was fun. We had sixteen people. Thank you Lee, Ryan, Kevin, Eli, ALAX, Mr.12, Reggie, Bobby, John, Karafail, Julius, OutforJustice, Joshimitsu, TheAbsolute, and Marshall.

It was actually a great 3S night. The new guy Bobby was actually really good.

So now we’re gonna have Super Turbo on the supergun since you can use the TE sticks with it. I also put in my newly acquired AVP just to spice things up.

So let’s try to do this again this coming Friday:)

So as I stated Super Turbo will be played on my supergun with TE sticks.

I’m trying to get current with today’s world and play ST on Japanese sticks:)

I’m probably going to show up really late because of the 3s tourney at Japan Arcade. I’ll do my best to represent Don’s Arcade though.

Nope. Not with this weather. And I have wedding preps to knock out tomorrow.
