Yea Jet li to me is like Meh. Like when I see him in any movie to me he’s acts like the same character. But with Donnie I get different type of emotions and styles of Characters but that’s just me. I watch both either way.
i wanna know why Jet Li seems to only be able to Slasher Smile. Every time he smiles it looks like he killed a bunch of babies and is very happy about it.
i think a major problem is the fact for all of jet’s examples of range he was in his 20’s and younger…as he got older he got typecasted as more of a badass wit only 1 emotion.
whereas donnie has kinda stuck to a range of characters from bassasses to straight up silly stuff. i mean even in that jackie chan/jet li movie he still played up bein a badass even in a kids movie.
LOLOLOL he got a smirk he don’t smile.
he’s like the asian black dynamite.

so what did you guys think of the movie, i didnt really like it that much. fights where nowhere as good as in 1, story wasnt that interresting and the movie was kinda boring as well. 1 was nowhere near perfect, but was still an enjoyable movie. 2 on the other hand was kinda disapointing imo.
Donnie Yen has my admiration pure and simple, some of his older flicks, forgot which one, to where he catches the guy that killed a girl or something and he goes completely ape shit and beats the dude. I swear he does a german suplex and at the ends gets the guy into a take down to where he beats the snot out of the guy killing him I believe, I can’t remember, it was quite a while ago when I saw this.
However, that fight was one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen choreographed, although not part of the Ip Man series, it was still however Donnie Yen. Donnie Yen’s fights reminds me a little bit of Jet Li’s in a small sense, in that they are very brutal, where as Jackie’s feels very stylized and Bruce Lee’s were simply beautiful and artistic. Yes, please do not think I’m just trying to “sum” it all up in one word or something, because all of their fights are completely unique and using one term to sum it all would be a terrible notion indeed.
i think the reason u see similarities in yen and jet li’s style is they both grew up doing straight wushu, donnie’s mother is a famous wushu teacher who has a worldfamous school in boston. and jet li grew up as a child doing wushu…whereas jackie learned his from the peking opera. i bet donnie and jet’s upbringing are alot similar in the styles they did.
The first Ip man was great. Still waiting to watch the second one. And I do hope they do make a third one. A movie with Ip Man passing down Wing Chun to Bruce Lee sounds excellent.
the first ip man was dope, shits aint coming out at the cinema here so im downloadin that piff now…
as for jet li, i could watch fist of legend everyday and not get bored, that movie beasted my childhood, i recalled hunting for that movie on vhs.
meanwhile, people like Keanu Reeves and that guy who starred in Avatar/Clash of the Titans are getting work, with their wide ranges…
Up until now every movie that included the Avatar guy was sub par. Fuck him.
Saw this movie today. Had lots of fun.
Liked that they showed a bit more of the culture of the Chinese martial arts as opposed to just how people use it to look really cool when beating people up.
Death!
Spoiler
Man, I pegged Leung to die from the start. However, the moment I saw Ip Man and Hung reach an agreement, Iknew that instead of Leung going, Hung would be the one to go.
what did you think of the movie? werent you disapointed with it especially after a good movie like the first one?
yeah and fist of legend is like the best jet li movie ever, the choreography in that one is even better than ip man 1. yeah they are very simila as well, fist has that ouch factor down to a tee (same for ip man 1 though), as good as the best parts of tony jaa movies if you ask me.
i swear if tony jaa ever gets a GOOD script it will make any and all fight movies absolute. i cant even watch van damme movies anymore cause of shitty they are nowadays, even the good ones suck ass compared to some really good fught movies.
anybody heard of merantau? friend of mine said it was a good fight movie but i havent seen it. theres also a new fight movie involving capoera playing in the 1930’s or so in the slavery times. dude said both these movies where awesome, but im way more critical about movies compared to him so dont know yet.
Supposed to be early 1950s.
Just finished Ip Man 2. WOW. Those fights were amazing. However, the story wasn’t as good as the first one. It was a standard martial arts type of storyline. Fortunately, the fights more than made up for it.
lol the first one was a typical martial art type of storyline too. =P
Yeah, I was just thinking more about the plot and it was. Whoops.
So there will be a part 3?
What’s the story on Bruce Lee on how he came to train under Ip Man anyways? Anyone know that can sum it up real quick?
if there is donnie yen said he isnt doing it.
I think the new Ip Man film starring Yuen Biao looks slightly better.
