Does playing for fun affect your gameplay?

Though I was never a good gamer in the first place, I noticed I’m losing a lot more than usual. I don’t know if I’m not playing properly or rushing in a lot or just not thinking or all of the above, but I just lose whether offline or against other people. According to some people, when I play non-fighting games like PIU or Just Dance, I have a stone-serious expression instead of one showing that I’m enjoy myself, and when I do play fighting games, I’m too busy focusing on winning to enjoy myself or I just choke and stay on the defensive most of the time. Overall, I play more for victory than to have fun. I don’t mean to bitch or sound like a scrub or anything, I just want everyone’s input on this.

It’s a game. Play to enjoy yourself.

Try to avoid fun if at all possible.

You are one of the chosen few who think winning is fun and not winning is not fun.

I don’t know how anyone can have any fun in a fighting game (or any player vs player game for that matter) if either player is not trying to win.

THIS. “Lets play random unlearned characters…FOR FUN LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL”

Stabs everyone within smelling distance

There’s fun screwing around, and then there’s a feeling of satisfaction from working hard at getting better. There’s a time and place for both.

Focus on one game, start reading character-specific guides about your main. Watch pro-level matches. Don’t just watch their individual moves and reactions, watch how high-level players have a strategy to control the pace and flow of the match, especially with spacing. There are more in-depth guides on this kind of thing.

Of course, this is all speculation coming from me, as I’m not that great either.

Winning is the whole point of playing, and typically what makes the game fun.

At the same time though I don’t recommend playing like its Evo Finals in every casual game you have. If taken to its extreme, playing to win can limit your ability to improve your skills. That and you’re more inclined to rage over pointless casual and/or online matches which don’t matter at all.

Playing to win is fun, though.
You don’t need to look like a cartoon character doing an end-of-episode laugh to be enjoying yourself.

here is the thing about almost everything, when you are not good at something its not fun, its only when you put in the time to get good at something that it becomes fun. it relates to anything. do you think its fun as hell when you play basketball and miss all your shots? nope. Is it fun to play a instrument when you dont play anything that sounds good. Having fun in key in anything that is a hobby but the fun comes from when you become good at it.
Now enough of my after school special sounding post. hope this helps

dunno, everyone is a try hard these days. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Just gotta enjoy the game even if you are losing

Playing for fun doesn’t mean you’re not playing to win.

I think games were made to be fun. Right?
If I wasn’t having fun, I wouldn’t be playing.
Same reason I don’t play certain genres of games or listen to certain types of music. I don’t find them ‘fun’.
Like many have said, playing to win and playing for fun are not mutually exclusive.

You don’t play a board game like Monopoly and expect yourself to come out of it winning. But you do it because it’s fun.
