What I don’t understand is how this guy interprets people telling him this is a dumb thread as people jumping to Capcom’s defense somehow.

This was back when SRK was A LOT less forgiving. The site itself would tell you to die in a fire if you fucked up enough.
Just make a nice post somewhere, where you make a funny pun in a news thread, or share some knowledge that people can use in their game.

Here’s some times to make the bad thread go away, and make sure the bad posters start touching you in your special areas.
#1 Stop Replying. It’s like doing DDR moves in quicksand. Just go limp.
#2 Admit it was dumb. It’s far more fun to beat a pinata that tries to hit back.
#3 Ask for it to be closed. Some mods will let things stay open to fuck with you (as they should at times), others may just give you a mercy killing and close it.
