This question has always bugged me. Shadaloo Cammy made her first appearence in XVSF, and you could clearly see that she uses the same kind of blue flame in most of her moves that Bison posesses. I always enjoyed this because of the rather amusing effect of watching your opponent constantly catch fire. However, when SFA3 came out, Capcom had redrawn Cammy’s sprites to remove the blue flame. Why? If the blue flame represents Psycho power, it would seem understandable if Cammy inherited some form of that power from Bison. But how come she displays it in one game and not the other? Why would Capcom go through all the trouble to remove it in the later game when it had no bearing on Cammy’s strength? And if Cammy really does posess Psycho power, will this still affect her in any part of her life?
What is “XVSF”? I was under the impression that Cammy made her first appearance in Super Street Fighter 2, and I don’t remember any blue flame in SSF2.
I said SHADALOO Cammy, Kentdog. And XVSF stands for X-Men VS. Street Fighter.
Almost all of the SF characters in the X-Men/Marvel vesus games have some of their special moves ‘powered up’ aestheticly and size-wise, more than likely to better match their superhero counterparts with their more outrageous energy-based attacks and such.
Examples:
Akuma’s lightning Hurricane Kick, and flaming SRK.
Zangief’s Final Atomic Buster (he turns orange if you spin the direction 360 degrees rapidly for the final hit)
Ken’s Shippa Jinrai Kyaku kick super complete with flames.
Not to mention the projectile attacks are a lot bigger.
versus games: crazy powers
SFA games: less crazy
It would be interesting if Cammy’s flames were Psycho-powered.
I think that’s a little off-the-mark, PsychoSquall. The characters you mentioned already had their ‘toned-down’ moves from SFA2 that Capcom simply had to port to SFA3. I understand that the SF characters’ moves were powered up for the versus games, but my point is that the Capcom spriters had to go through all the trouble to redraw Cammy’s sprites for SFA3 to remove a power that made NO difference to her fighting style. Why didn’t they just leave it in then? Is there some story significance to why she doesn’t have the blue flames in SFA3?
If I had to guess, I’d say the blue flames were meant to symbollically represent powered-upness and thus were removed for SFA3, but the blue flames were representative of how a more powered-up Cammy could wield psycho power and thus the actual canon Cammy does indeed possibly have psycho power (which makes sense given she’s Bison’s clone etc), but not enough for it to manifest in blue flames.
All of that is of course purely theretical.
lol yeah right.
They didnt redraw her. ALL the “power/ki” animations used in the VS games (as well as Capcom’s 2D fighters) are animated seperate from teh characters. They didnt have to redraw jack shit, just remove lines of coding, which I imagine must of been soo hard for them to do.
And NO Capcom was not trying to show Cammy used or had Psycho Power. It would have carried over with her in SFA3 along with the Dolls, which it didnt.
Psycho Power has to be taught, somebody just cant use it that didnt learn how. Bison can channel it into people to control them, however the people themselves can not use Psycho Power.
On subject sorta not on subject, why the fuck did they change pycho power to purple flames instead of the orginal blue? I always hated that BS. Just doesnt look at cool to me. I remember something win qoute wise was acctualy said about it in CVS but it may have just been a “fun” qoute and not real if that makes any sence.
Wow, first a Thread about Ken throwing a Shinkuu Hadouken and now this. Is it possible for people to just ask these questions on this Link since they don’t have jack to do with the comic? Your questions will get answered, I swear.
Blue was basicly already established as the Hadou color, and to be more varied Bison’s power became purple which was for the BETTER, blue dosnt suit Bison as well as the purple does, the purple energy looks more evil, and what you’d expect.
Whoever was behind the SF2 animated movie was basicly responsible for certain changes with characters from SF2 to SFA, ie the big muscular Bison with purple Psycho Power was done by them, Ken’s long (SFA) hair comes from them, as well as a crap load of other stuff, since the SFA series was inspired by the SF2 animated movie.
There’s actually an old SF1 illustration of Ken with long hair.
Really? Where can it be found?
Cammy has the potential to weild psycho power, it’s a given cuz she is a clone of Bison, but she hasn’t been taught the technique of manifesting and absorbing negative energy and turning into psycho power. It would be interesting to see a Cammy with Psycho Power in a future SF, the Psycho Power is consuming her turning her evil. (If Bison would return, he would probably kill Cammy just for being able to weild psycho power)
I don’t think Cammy has the ability to switch bodies like Bison though.
No there isnt.
There was ONLY one piece of art for each SF1 character done by Bengus that was released.
Here is ALL the SF1 artwork…(aside from the ingame portraits)

What you’re talking about is no doubt talking about is Bengus’ SFA Ken (anatomy) sketch.
She’s not an exact clone of him though, her DNA was signifigantly altered from Bison’s.
Psycho Power isnt genetic either, just cause she has Bison’s DNA dosnt mean she could easily use it. Bison used to be a normal human once, and his DNA was no diffrient in SFA3 then it was when he was born.
Cammy has no manisfestations (sp?) of power. She’s just a super solider, enchanced speed, enchanced strength, etc.
