being left handed i cant consistently do hondas heavy HHS, as my coordination with the piano method is awkward and sloppy, and i think ive been practising for at least 6 months now.
However when i do the piano method with my left hand i can always do this 95% of the time without any worries., and my coordination when pushing the buttons is spot on.
My point being is that they should make left handed sticks, with the joystick on the right handside rather than the left…
just a thought worth considering
It shouldn’t make a difference… I know LH gamers that play MvC2 and do Magneto’s ROM.
and if you want a left handed stick, make one.
Also, there’s this:

That’s Seth Killian, not just some random dude. Not a top player AFAIK, but he’s not just some random guy at an arcade.
i wasnt aware seth killian had a makeover…
Not to derail this thread, but that’s him. He’s changed his look over 4 years…
In 2k7, this is what he looked like:

and if you still don’t believe me:

I don’t main Honda, but find fun in street fighter executing with every character. Being left handed has not stopped me from doing anything. Just keep practicing.
learn to play the guitar left handed. it helps with coordination and whatnot because it’s your right hand doing all the fretting, yet your left hand is plucking the strings
Left handed here, got by with lots of practice and vs.
Honda/Chun pianos come out dirty for me (ie EX) once in a while, but I can use him just fine when I try. As mentioned, a custom-made stick would be the way to go, if the traditional one isn’t working out for you.
i managed to remap my heavy and light punches. I swapped them around and have better results with it…
I’m left handed and I can 100% jab xx HHS, but I can do it quick enough for it to be an OS. Left handed or not with practice you can do any combo.
Left hander as well, although difficult it just takes a lot of practice. If right handers can learn how to do motions on the stick with their left then we can learn to piano with our right
I use slide method though, my right hand just wont piano lol
I’ve always been of the opinion that sticks are actually left-handed. I’m a lefty and it just feels wrong to me to use my right hand for the sweeps and rapid flicks that are required to manipulate a character. It’s not necessarily “natural” for me to use my left hand for button pushes either. I’ll also admit that part of this is all a break-in/practice issue stemming from never having used either hand for the opposite function, but it seems to me that it’d take a lot more practice for me to get my RH up to speed for movement than my LH up to speed for button pressing.
But I also find it somewhat entertaining that the Wii controls are better suited for me than for the vast majority of humanity.
To re-iterate, I’ve just expressed an opinion, not what I feel to be an absolute truth. If you think sticks are RH-oriented, I’ll still share a beer with you at the bar. And then vomit since I can’t hold my liquor. And I hate the taste of beer.
To add something that’s actually relevant to the thread, OP, you were mentioning problems with using your right hand for piano on Honda’s HHS.
That’s because you’re using your right hand for “flicking” or rapid wrist movement, something that isn’t suited for your non-dominant hand. That is one case where it would be better for you to use your left hand, since intricate wrist movements are the domain of the dominant hand. Pressing buttons keeps the wrist relatively stationary so that’s why everything else seems to work well with your RH.
I think your best bet is to learn to spam the buttons with your right fingers.
Your other alternative would be to do the swap-hands method like what Seth prominently does. But I honestly think that it would result in you being very good at piano for Honda but being (to your surprise) not nearly as adept at stick movement as you ever could be with the standard hand positioning.
yeah thats probably the best answer. After 6 months of training, my coordination of doing the piano methods just isnt getting better. i mean i can do it probably 60% of the time. which is pretty pathetic actually. I think i may just have to switch characters, though honda is one of the most fun characters to play with
Im also left handed and I join the rank of people who just cant piano well but although I learnt to use slide enough for using it as punishes and jump ins, I still have to practise more since I can’t link well after HHS.
ummm, I have to try cross hands, but I have been playing arcades the normal way since 198X… I doubt I could readapt myself.
I’m left handed and dont really struggle. I think it may hold us back in terms of maybe doing option select HHS (completing the piano during hit/blockstun) but aside from that I dont feel as though my right hand cant keep up.
In my country all the left handed senior citizens are ambidextrous because they were forced to write with their right hand in school.
You can definitely train your off hand to perform tasks as well as your main. Just keep at it and never give up.
I’ve had execution problems, and the way I look at it is;If BrolyLegs can play with his face, then the rest of us are capable of anything. Just practice.
I saw it, awesome, he could had won against Daigo if he would be able to do U2 after lighting legs… although doing lighting legs with the face is a great feat itself.
First off, I should point out that Seth Killian is right handed.
I’m also right handed and I build custom sticks for myself with the joystick on the right side. In other words, I’m playing the game exactly like a left handed person who uses a standard stick, i.e. the original poster.
I’ll list the pluses and minuses of playing this way from my perspective.
Pluses
- It’s easier to do supers, 360s and special moves in general. I can do motions in my sleep that I struggle with when I play on a standard stick.
- Consequently, it’s easier to combo into said moves, i.e. two-in-ones are easier.
- Movement in general feels more fluid. I think my spacing is more precise this way
- Dashing and FADCing is easier. Instant air dashing and Sasquatch’s dash cancels in Vampire Savior are so much easier that it’s almost criminal.
Minuses
- Pianoing is a bitch. I can’t do it consistently with my non-dominant hand so I actually use a standard stick when I play any character that requires it, i.e. Honda or Blanka.
- Mashing in games that don’t support pianoing (sup SF2) is harder, but not as hard as pianoing.
- Plinking is harder, which makes link-based combos harder. Chains are about the same.
I’d recommend trying to learn the slide method or switching to a character that isn’t so…button-centric.
For me, I can piano like a boss with my left hand (doing 12313) because it feels more natural to go from left to right with my left hand than it does with my right hand (on standard 6 button layout)
