I agree with 1 and 2, but in regards to #3, I saw that coming anyways…I mean let’s face it this is the US of A. Bottom line is if it isn’t Capcom or a few other companies the scene isn’t gonna hold strong in the US…so #3 doesn’t surprise me one bit…Matter of fact I’ve come to expect that. Thats called the Dabbler Syndrome. They weren’t hardcore to begin with, their intention was to play KOFXII and dabble in it until either BlazBlue or another game came out. It was only a filler game to them anyways…trust me on this I saw this coming wayyyyyyyy b4 the game came out.

Third, for a smart kid you sure suck at quoting people.
There isn’t a scene for KOF XII because it feels like an unfinished game and it has horrible netplay. There wouldn’t be as many dabblers and people would have stuck with the game if they could have found competition online.
If SNK puts out a good game and has decent netplay to back it up, people will stay with it.
Okay but what I’m saying is look at the other things…look at KOFXI, 98UM, 2k2UM, same thing…only difference is these are actually finished games…but don’t have good/or lack netplay. I think bottom line is there’s still gonna be a large amount of dabblers…
Sure may be a little less dabblers with better netplay but I still see a large amount just playing the game and going back to XYZ after…I mean I’ve had a large amount of people even tell me they were gonna do this…
And I ain’t gonna lie…it’s like when SSFIV comes out…I’m gonna play it for a little bit but I won’t play it nearly as much as the SNK games…My heart is just not there…And that’ll be the last time I play SSFIV, because I don’t wanna dabble in it…I wanna focus where my heart is.
So I do understand trust me.
I’m kind of in the dabbler boat right now. I really enjoy KoF games, and I own XII and still play it, but there’s not really anywhere I can go with it. I play with friends, but they’re not big fans of the series, and only one of them is considering buying XII. I like the game a lot, I really do, but without any kind of competition I’m not getting any better and I doubt there’s going to be a bigger playerbase here when XIII eventually hits. Guess the best I can hope for is that XIII has better online…
Or…this is what you can do:
- Train someone how to play the game, play someone constantly in it until they get better in it, and then in due time you’ll have matches to where you have to adjust your tactics if the person is continuously getting better. The person you are training however cannot be a dabbler, or this experiment will go NOWHERE. They must want to get better and must be serious about it. Even if they are a SF player, they can learn alot from other games…KOF teaches them reactionary speed/instincts, which applies to all fighting games.
Not a bad idea. The dude I mentioned that was considering buying it is kind of coming around to it from SFIV, so it wouldn’t be too hard to do. After all, I did it with him and that game…

I’ve been reading your last couple of post and agree with everything you say wholeheartedly.
As regards to your above quote, I had this work in reverse by asking a hardcore KOF fan friend of mine show me the ropes of the gameplay.
He personally HATES XII cuz he thinks it’s too slow for the most part, but said he’d help me as much as he can regardless. To be honest, he’s still levels ahead of me but as far as any other competition (Xbox Live on a decent connect or local play) I got real good to the point people don’t wanna play me.
The sad thing is I had high hopes for this game and hope the patch delay on Xbox live turns out to be some kind of blessing cuz KOF as a series is now my fave 2D fight franchise. (I went crazy on amazon and bought all the domestic releases)
As far as I’m concerned though, KOF XII isn’t dead, at least until XIII comes out.

Yeah see another thing is see its a tossup right now about KOFXII’s take in Mexico…a lot in Mexico are diehard old school KOF players…and thus you got some that like it, others that find the others more enjoyable. But see you got access to an old school player so take full advantage of that, they can teach you things that will make your reaction time faster when you play something like SF or other games, so it can help you. Bottom line is the more games you can “master” the better, because you’ll see in the end it’s all the same…only the systems and engines change, but the basic games don’t change.
