Does anyone know where I can find a 1.8mm xbox headset cord extension?

So I can hang it out of my custom hitbox and plug a headset into it.

Are you referring to the Xbox 360’s headset Mic port?
It is a 2.5 mm audio jack not 1.88 mm. Commonly used in cordless phones and cell phones.

2.5 mm sized jacks can be found easily in most electronic supply stores such as Radio Shack or Fry’s. Digikey and Element 14 also carry a number of choices for that part.

umm, radioshack, bestbuy, microcenter, fry’s,amazon, ebay, the internets. Choose whatever’s close to you.

You’re Welcome

omg, I was late by a minute sakul, lol

I got a 2.5 extension from radio shack, its to big for the xbox controller port. I got a 1.8 male to standard headphones female and put my pc headset into that, wouldn’t work. I think I need 1.8 male to 1.8 female?

Is it really a 1.8mm TRS connector? Honestly didn’t know those existed. Thought it was 2.5mm, but I’ve never really used it so I could be mistaken. 2.5mm is what you normally find in cellphones (well, you used to before iPhones and other 3.5mm, TRRS connectors started getting used). It never struck me as that small, but it’s been a while since I’ve even paid any attention to it.

If it IS 2.5mm, you could probably opt for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so that you could use more standard headsets with it.

Whatever it is, I’d recommend using a panel mount jack, if you could find one – hanging a wire out of the box not only looks janky, but also strains that wire constantly. Whatever you buy will need to be replaced after a while. If you can’t find an appropriate panel-mount jack, you can drill a hole the same size as whatever female connector you end up with, and glue the connector in place – as long as everything’s tight internally, there won’t be any strain on the wire that way.

EDIT: Lots of activity while typing my post lol. Does the PC headset have 3 contacts on it’s mic input line? Because that means it requires a 5V bias voltage, and probably won’t work on a headset port like this.

EDIT EDIT: Another option would be to get an appropriately sized female TRS jack, and solder to the pins on the internal connector.

No it is a 2.5mm jack. I have order parts, cables and adapters for that audio port before.
You are confusing it for the 3.5 mm jack made standard for Cassette, CD and MP players. Don’t always trust Radio Shack Employees as they are not actually trained in electronic components, there just there to make the sale.

You will want a STEREO 2.5 mm audio jack, but instead of a L, R and ground pins, you be using the set up as ear, mic and ground pins.
I forgot which of the 2 hooks up as the Mic the left or right side audio, same for the ear piece.

Here is a Digikey entry for the jack in question
http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/103482-conn-audio-jack-2-5mm-stereo-smd-sj-2523-smt.html

It’s Tip=Mic, Ring=Ear, Sleeve=Ground, according to pinouts.ru.

Everyone here is right about the 2.5mm jack. I think you’re mixing imperial and metric in your head to get 1.8mm, since 3.5mm is also referred to as 1/8th inch.

Yep that is correct. I never had bothered to commit it to memory. So I did not want to get the order backwards.
