DOA4 tiers

Uh, no shit, but it’s usually not THAT drastic of a change. Dr. Doom was at first considered top-tier in Mvc2. He’s not anymore, but he’s still at least seen as high tier.

DoA4 has been out for nearly two years now. I’d think that the community would’ve grasped something a little definate by now. This list change I just winessed was RETARDLY drastic for a game that’s been out so long.

they usually get more consistent when everyone picthes in. . not just PL+some other people.

There has been some more consistant placings in them lately.

Busa staying best.bottom tiers been the same for awhile now.Low tier as well.

The main changes just come in the mid/high placings.

even then the 5 characters that jump around the most are:
Lee,Kokoro,spartan,hitomi,Zack

Whats hard in the DOA community is people don’t hit confirm and free cancel when they shouldn’t and don’t properly space and don’t properly know how to use holds and run in hitting buttons hoping to hit people instead of making better decisions with their spacing and their choices with attacking and it makes moves and chars seem better than they are like Ein. Ein is very unsafe has like 2 safe moves and some guard breaks but the guard breaks aren’t useful at all and he has no true high crushes (true high crushes duck catch throws). His best moves need you to whiff to be used or for you to just run in hitting buttons so he can counter hit you.

He has no annoying low to break your offense, nothing that stuns on normal (That is low) beside a slow 24 frame sweep which you can counter blow him out of.) All he has is a very good wall game however he has nothing to scare you into getting forced into it beside you whiffing on your own. his d/f p is good since its 13 frames and is safe and lift stuns (2nd deepest stun in the game) but his throws and holds are nothing to be afraid of unless you actually play into the triangle system.

I see too many people trying to hold as they get stunned for no reason when they should just be slow escaping so they end up just eat throws when they should just take the damage since its not much unless its on High Counter Blow but you can only get that if your spacing is bad or you are randomly throwing out throws.\

A lot of players also create fake mixups in their head which don’t exist like when they see ein’s crouch dash they are afraid to hit a button so they get thrown by his crouch dash grab. Its not like he is a mishima in tekken where he has an unseeable 16 frame low that knocks you down for a juggle or stuns you deeply for a guarantee hit afterwards.

Also players like the above example are what make me rethink if something is good or not but in reality they are just playing the game wrong and just get hit by everything and are not playing on a high level. There are very few people in this game that play the game correctly.

Anyway here you guys go

Tierlist is

Mid Tier

Ein

Low Tier
Hitomi

Q - to the - F - to the - T

Still better than Tekken, though.

What’s the point of having a tier list for DOA 4? The tiers seem to change just for the sake of changing. Brad was rated as the 2nd weakest character in the game for the longest time, but now he’s not only mid-tier, but better than Hitomi? Hitomi was considered either top or high-mid for a long time. DOA 4 is old enough that people should’ve dissected the game by now.

I swear people change the tiers on purpose just to watch online bandwagoners dance on their proverbial puppet strings while the “pros” who made the list are pissing themselves laughing.

My DOA 4 tier list

Top Tier
People who hate the game, but actually state why

Low Tier
People who engage in baseless bashing of DOA
People who post in a tiers thread for a game they hate

I should have elaborated further. I actually love DOA 4, and play it online quite frequently. That said, the game has a learning curve like Mt. Everest, and if you’re not a ninja, you’re simply not going to win.

My problem with DOA 4 tiers as a whole is that people make only 1 tiers list for the game. For any fighting game, there should always be an online and offline tiers list. My observation from seeing DOA 4 tiers listings is that the tiers change too damn much considering how old the game is. More often than not, people will bump random characters up or down accordingly, except for the ninjas because if they’re listed as anything but high, then people will know that poster is full of crap. I do honestly believe that people tier the game to fuck with online bandwagoners.

That’s easy. The game doesn’t have a strong enough scene where they can really make a concrete tier list. Of course the tier list is going to bounce up and down when the scene isn’t even concrete enough for people to make correct decisions on the tier list. In a game like DOA4 for every strong player there has to be like 10 people who are a whole level or 2 under them. I’m sure there’s like 4 different tier lists for the game mentioned on different forums and what not. DOA4 as a competitive offline fighter doesn’t have a serious enough scene where they can make a concrete list really efficiently.

I can’t imagine there’s more than 2 or 3 strong DOA players for every region of the US that plays the game competitively offline. Only if you’re talking to someone who’s truly efficient in the game can you really even understand where the tiers are in the game. Not to mention with most other fighting games they usually have an even stronger scene in Japan. Mainly due to arcades still being rather popular in Japan where people are rather close and can compete regularly whenever they want. DOA4 was never released in the arcades so there was no real chance for its scene to grow there. I can’t imagine anything serious has ever been done with DOA4 in Japan or anywhere overseas which means the tier list is at the mercy of either the online scrubs or few strong players that play the game seriously offline in the US.

You only need one tier list for any fighting game. That’s the offline tier list. WTF do you need an online tier list for? So you can abuse the lag tactics of whatever character is most abuseable in the lag? I’ve seen people make tier lists for Kaillera Alpha 3 and that doesn’t make any sense. That’s not Alpha 3 and it’s not a serious game. It’s something totally different that has no basis making a tier list for or even taking seriously. Online doesn’t mean shit. Nobody competes seriously in tournaments online. Online fighting games are not at a level where they are worth taking seriously. There’s always a slight delay even when the connection is strong and that alone makes making an online tier list worthless.

Along with the fact that there’s just simply no point when it’s known amongst the fighting game community that online fighting gaming just isn’t credible as far as its competitive aspect. People dont get the same respect they do for winning random online tourneys as they do for winning an organized offline tourney. There’s too many variables with online play that dont make ranking tiers or placing players in the scene worth doing.

personally i think christie should be higher because she has a stupidly good low punch hold that results in ridiculous juggles, dokuja-fujin unblockables / nitaku and santaku near walls, and one of the fastest jabs in the game next to Kasumi i think? but i’m probably playing favorites because i use her.

She still has tons of problems which keep her strictly mid. She can get very very repetitive and with that comes predicatbility. Her best move is her 2G+K, it’s fast and is deadly when fighting in water. Her offensive stance is just horrible compared to Helena’s and you can get minor mixups off of people tech rolling. Also, she does NO damage off of launchers unless she reaches the full stun threshold. In 4.1 her bt P kills some of the extra damage she can get off of juggles since once it hits, gravity increases and your opponent drops faster. In 4.0 she was able to do some pretty decent damage with some of the stuff she could do from BT P juggles. The fact that you can counter through the P portion of her 3K,P and 3PPP make those moves practically useless if your opp. is paying attention. She’s decent, but not Kasumi level. At least she isn’t as bad as Brad, where the game engine itself works against him.

No he was right he first time its a horrible game. It is however a step up from the trash that was DOA 2 and 3. Although it was never meant to be a serious fighter anyway.
