I’ll definitely be getting Skullgirls the day it’s released (tomorrow, I believe), however I’m worried the community will die off quickly. Games like KOF XIII and 3rd strike online were incredibly fun to play, but after a month or so I either come across the same 5-8 people every match or it takes me forever to find a match. Is it something to do with games that aren’t too popular amongst the already relatively small FGC?
What do you guys think? It’s obviously an opinion, as no one can know for sure.
Edit: Changed title of thread to ONLINE community, as DevilJin01 pointed out.
3SOE’s online matchmaking was terrible and gave GGPO a bad repuation. KOF XIII’s netcode was bad as usual. Games with good online multiplayer are still being played even now and Skullgirls will get tons of play if the online is up to the challenge. This should be especially true if people from melty blood, Arcana, BlazBlue and the Capcom games give SG a try. The anime folks are notorious for their online gaming habits.
I think if GGPO follows through with a great online experience and matchmaking the online community will be more than fine. Me and friends honestly don’t play certain games as much anymore simply based off of the fact that the netcode is jut so bad. Yes building the offline community should and always will be the focal point imo, but as long as the game performs well online the community in that respect will stay very strong. Also the patch for bigger lobbies when released is going to be great, sorry for whoever above thought this game has lobbies on release and I’m bursting bubbles…but yeah no lobbies on release. It’ll be ranked matches, player matches and offline sessions for a while unfortunately, which doesn’t bother me much at all.
