If developers made custom characters in ways that are nearly unique in every aspect for example, looks, move sets, frames etc. do you think it would attract more gamers especially those who are not into fighting games?
We would break it, HORD.
I think customizable appearance is enough, and VF5 (and hopefully Tekken 6) already does this well.
What he said. Custom characters = brokeness. A GG example:
- Chipps’s teleporation
- Potemkin Buster
- Jam’s Puff balls
- Testament’s Badlands and EXE beasts
- Sol’s VV
- Slayers FB
About what? the amount of moves a GG character can have at most? Add in the air 2 air normals of Johnny, Eddie’s ground normals, with the moves listed above and you have a SSS rank character in GG.

If anything, custom characters do little more than to cheapen the experience of whatever game bothers to feature them. Sure, have the option to customize outfits or edit colors of existing characters. As far as create-a-character is concerned, though, leave that crap in wrestling games where it belongs (if there’s nothing wrong with the characters made for the game in the first place, it shouldn’t even cross a developer’s minds).
3D MK’s Kreate-a-Fighter.
…with rediculous and stupid objects, to boot.
The irony is, of course, that people would be checking websites as soon as possible to find out the best possible move list combination for a custom character and the “custom” element of the character would be gone.
lol yup. that’s what i did with MK:A’s KAK mode.
you can always play mugen
i agree with ya.
Create a character systems only work with wrestling or sports games because everyone has the same commands via a universal system. Wrestling games only give you a maximum of points for you to use on edits. A game that would let the player mess with frames, commands, and move properties is just asking for some really ugly combinations.
And it gets much much more broken than that.
Sorry that it took me long to respond, but from what I’m speculating from your responses it seems that you guyz have been talking about custom characters that is included with the original game.
What I meant to say is what if game developers were to make a separate game package moreover like an expansion pack that was entirely based on custom characters? I would then imagine that they would make custom characters more unique than what we’ve experienced in these original fighting games.
Personally what I really hope for custom characters is not just unique looks but more of a close-enough-diverse fighting style. Rather than choosing move sets like in Mortal Kombat why not acquire different moves based on how you perform with your character.
You’re talking a game just built around custom characters?
Wasn’t that Fighter Maker? And didn’t that bomb?
And according to the way you wants things… so if someone sucks with a character the character will suck in turn? Great! Now the scrubs can play scrubs characters with shitty movesets!
I play rushdown so naturally my character will be unstoppable!
yes this would be quite cool.
Yes exactly!
I never heard of Fighter Maker I may have to actually do a Google search on that.
Not exactly in that sense, how this type should be executed is really up to the developers.
I know what I posted sounds vague but to be a little more specific if I were the developer I would give you certain move sets based on how offensive and defensive you are. So for example if you level up and your overall performance is mostly on the offense then you acquire some move sets that would suite an offensive player’s tastes otherwise if you’re playing defensively then you acquire moves that suite a defensive player’s taste.
Since your style is rushdown then I would consider more on the offense whereas a turtle player I would consider more on the defense. So it’s down the path you choose for your character and there’s really no one path that beats all.
You never heard of Fighter Maker? Good for you. It’s an abomination.
