I miss working the morning shift. Would go in at 5AM. Get off anywhere between 11AM-2PM. Had plenty of time to hit the gym and do all the shit I wanted to do during the day. Every other shift blows because I hate missing out on daylight. Even though I still find myself up late on most nights I’ve never been a big fan of it.
I never did like working at night, some reason everyone turns into super asshole mode at night.
The majority of the jobs I had have been night shift. I’ve always had the habit of staying up late so night shifts felt like a natural fit. Bosses ain’t around much and there’s less people to deal with leaving me to do things at my own leisure which is what I like about nights the most.
I been working an early morning shift in my current job (5AM - 12PM) and I’ve grown to like the hours.
Been working at a small office here in LA almost a year now, night shift 3:30-midnight by request.
…I live across the street from it tho, practically working from home
I was never a morning person, walking to horrible schools in Chicago, working odd jobs in the state of Illinois and being in the Navy would easily sway a soul to the dark side. I’ve gave many a person the evil eye just for acknowledging my presence before 11am at the mimimum
Unless I was turned into an actual vampire (something I probably would indeed trade my very soul for), I would never want to do a night shift job. I am fortunate to have normal day-time hours and weekends off. I can watch shows “the old fashioned way” when they are broadcast at their normal time if I like, and I can enjoy going to sleep at a normal time as well. It’s also great if/when you have a schedule that ends before 5 pm so you actually beat the afternoon rush-hour traffic. I beat the normal morning rush hour as well by just leaving much earlier than I really need to… I hate traffic so much that it’s definitely worth leaving early.
ive heard nothing but bad things about graveyard/third shift stories, people seeing ghosts, lights going off and on, hearing door closings and footsteps…
I haven’t worked a “night shift” since I worked at a movie theater in Times Square when I was 19. It wasn’t pleasant, tbh. I still lived in NJ so all buses and shit had stopped, which meant either walking home at 4 a.m. through a gang-infested neighborhood or take a taxi whose rates changed every night. How is it $7 one night then $18 the other? Fucking crooks.
It made life hell. I’d sleep until 2 or 3 p.m. and only had time to go to work. My girlfriend at the time was up my ass about not spending time with her, but she was a petulant little bitch who didn’t understand I worked to pay for school and have some semblance of money around. Glad I dumped her ass. One night I had to work until 5 a.m. and I was upset I wasn’t really bringing home something I could be proud of so I quit in three months. Got a better paying gig as a tutor at my university.
After that, the only real time I worked at night was when I was a reporter and had to cover a story at night. I guess that counts, but it kinda doesn’t because it ain’t so bad. I traveled, met interesting people, had some good food or got some juicy gossip I could write stories about. I went home, typed up my story, e-mailed it in, and didn’t worry about work until I got some freelance gigs and shit.
I worked the overnight shift at the computer lab twice a week in college and I’m pretty sure it’s why my sleep schedule is chronically fucked up to this day. That said, I didn’t mind it because things are usually slow as fuck at night so you can chill, but it sucks adjusting your day like that. If the pay was higher and it was a situation where I was working like only 3 12 hours shit a week (like nurses) then I’d be fine with working nights.
I work late morning 10-6pm or swing shift 2-10pm I don’t love it but it is what it is. I have worked overnights and I worked 7 on and 7 off but I got tired of doing it because while I had my 7 on I always felt awful and it usually took me 2 days to recover from working that many hours in a week. I think I would prefer day shift but pretty much at my work you have to have kids to get dayshift. Guess I am gonna have to knock up the wife if I want to work days lol.
I’m a morning person but having a gf that works the mid-day/night shift makes it complicated. Round the time i am supposed to sleep, she’s getting home and wanting to chill. A very tiring predicament
My girlfriend works the dinner shift at a restaurant and I gotta say, it’s perfect. She doesn’t get home until 2-4 a.m. on weeknights so I’ve the bed to myself most of the night. When she gets home she wakes me up from time to time by at that point I only have a couple of hours until I have to wake up to get to work. I wake up at 5 a.m. so she’s grateful to have the bed to herself most of the morning.
The one thing that sucks is that if she has a night off I’m pretty much obliged to spend it with her. Not that I mind her company, I just hate when it lands on my happy hour day.
Did 3rd shift 9pm-7:30am for 2-1/2 years, do not miss it. Only good thing about it is that I have no trouble drinking at any time of day. But yeah, even though I was on 4 10’s every week, it sucked trying to get on everyone else’s schedule to hang out, and by the time I had to get back in on Sunday I would pretty much be fucked and on a guaranteed 24-36 hours no sleep.
Health suffered both physically and mentally and it was at least a partial factor in killing probably the best relationship I ever had. Got a 9-5 now and I wouldn’t go back for just about anything.
The biggest thing now is that my wife is on me about not spending time together. Whe she was out of town for a week all I did was sleep until It was time for work. Working nights works because my wife is in grad school during the day and we save money on a daycare/sitter.
I don’t like the shift, but it’s a necessary evil right now.
I prefer early morning shifts 3am-12n. When the shift is over you still have a good chunk of the day(and daylight) to do whatever. I also got the same pay incentive as the night shift, I think the cutoff was 4am. What I always hated about 9am-5pm was during the winter months when you wake up and it’s dark, and when you leave work it’s dark.
Night shift. I hate talking to non-employees.
tired old joke, and who the hell are you? random ass scrub foh
If night shift is something you are dealing with, it may be time to get your shit together in life. Sleep is no joke.
I’ve worked 2nd shift, but never night shift. I think it’s doable when you’re in your early 20’s, but if you want to advance your career, you need to move to earlier shifts: the graveyard shift tends to be overlooked as the managers with the power to promote are generally working 1st shift.
day shift uuuwaaaaah fighter of the night shift uuwaaaah
i used to be an overnight stocker that definitely messed with my head.
i would struggle going to bed while hearing the various white noises from work.
working the night shift had me constantly feeling like my eyes were dry, my face tingle, and every breath i drew stale.
it makes you feel like you’re living in some alternate dimension.

Generally agree, but there are professions (doctor’s, data centers, etc.) where those shifts are necessary and don’t have to mean someone is fucking up.
