I should guess that “Cool story bro” is a good way to see this whole thread.
And as for the main question that was made in this topic, No, I don’t get frustrated or Irritated becuase of video games in general (not only the fighting genre) unless happens the biggest BS that could ever exist in a game such as losing after hours of playing and not having saved all the time, etc (which is also hard to happen since I don’t play games many hours). But meh, everyone gets angry for “x” reason in their lives, so I guess this could be normal too.
If I lose in a match, it shows my errors and the fact that I still need a lot to learn in the game, even more If I lost against a good player who gave me a close fight to with which I had fun.
Also, to be honest, SFIV makes me rage a tremendous amount as well since it allows very bad people to win if you aren’t use to random idiocy. Not to the point that I throw temper tantrums like the OP, but I don’t like random UPPARCUTS, and that mad mashing, which this game promotes.
Nuh-uh. I could play MB or SWR/IamP or GoF for aaaaaages and not get bored.
Street fighter on the other hand…I get bored after two or three matches. Unappealing gameplay, unappealing characters. I even remember seeing SF2 for the first time back when I was a kid and thinking “gee all these characters are boring as hell except for that girl.”
Not that I don’t respect SF for being a good series, it’s just not my type of fighter. I like flashy fighters with kitschy characters and big long combos. Just a personal taste thing, really.
Been playing Shaq Fu and trying to get better, and god in heaven do i get angry. Holes through doors, screaming, etc. It’s so god damn frustrating to lose. It’s not even like Shaq Fu is super important to me. I’ve got perfect grades, hot girlfriend, i’m popular, i really have a good life. i dont know why this game sets me off so damn much. i even had to google it and that’s how i found this site. Now it’s even worse that i read all the stuff here, because i know i like have to think and adapt and such, but i just CANT. I can do all the fucking combos but the game itself defeats me. I dont know. first person shooters never made me half this mad, and worse I was a straight beast at those games, and now to suck at this… ugh.
Anyone else get batshit insane mad at fighting games?
Hmm, an “I need” something goal probably isn’t terribly helpful, but I like to judge my competition in a tournament and then give myself a goal for how many matches I want to win, like, how many I really think I should win in the tournament. If I win that many matches, then I’m like, alright! I’m going to win x+1 matches today! Yes! This kind of thing works if you’re playing against the same people often, I suspect.
I have also had success when I did look to beat a particular person, as it made me study the match up with that much more determination and drive. Looking to win a certain number of matches with randoms is pointless, but I think some of the goals you mentioned are valid training possibilities.
This thread is like +20 posts for deadfrog, lol. +1 for me!
