Gordon had a stroke in 2011. He hasnāt fully recovered, heās a nursing home apparently.
Tsuba thatās it. I emailed the company about exchanging the bokken and theyāve already given me a refund but the guy never emailed me back about it. So free bokken maybe. Iām still going to look into something nicer though. My sensei has this bokken/saya/wakizashi set he found for like $90 and itās good quality stuff so im looking into that. I figure if I ever decide to sell it, Iād make a little money on it and itās always nice to have decent quality gear. But for now, Iām using the boat oar of a bokken
Howās kendo been going?
Late to work because i lost a tooth today. Fucking push kick
How the fuck do you take a push kick to the mouth?

How the fuck do you take a push kick to the mouth?
Its daboog, he tried to grapple a push kick, obviously. Hopefully it isnāt a front tooth.
Iām kinda joking, I tend to kick a lot and sometimes my teeps do slide up someoneās chest guard. Also Iām like 6ā3", so my solarplexus is as high as some other peopleās jaws or collarbones.

How the fuck do you take a push kick to the mouth?
Guard down, guy pushes kick my mouth and was trying to crush my face in
Like he went all in on it.
I think it might have been a receipt for the solaplexus shot. These young guys give no shits
It was the tooth next to my implant, so whatevs. But dude threw a push kick to my face like on some hulk hogan shit

Wasted:

Thatās not cool. I vote to choke him out at least three times

We started working on sword kata in kenjutsu tonight, which is great because thatās the part of it Iām most interested in. Gotta get myself a decent bokken though so I donāt keep having to borrow the instructorās extra like a scrubā¦
Donāt worry, the Bokuto arenāt too expensive. You should be able to find one from local shop for like 25 bucks. My advice is to get one thats a light colour since dark ones are usually painted and then look crappy after, youāve started using them since the paint chips off/stains your partnerās bokuto.
Good advice! I wound up ordering this white oak one, but it arrived and when I opened it up yesterday the workmanship was shit. There was glue all over the hilt (canāt remember the Japaneser word for the hand guard) and handle and to make matters worse, there was a small crack just developing at the end of the handle. So Iām having to send it back and might upgrade to a (hopefully) higher quality one if itās made of the right wood.
Word youāre looking for is Tsuba but thats too bad man. Donāt spend too much money but there should be at least a decent standard level of quality. Where did you order it from? I can give you some recommendations from shops that my GF has visited in Japan. If you are ever placing any really large orders let me know I can get you a big discount.

Kendo going well. Got a chance to play one of the recent All Japan Champions. Which is basically the equivalent of fighting a world champion. It was pretty life changing lol.
Tournament season is coming up soon so Iām getting back into my routine of regular 4-5 times a week hard training. Been running during my off days. My clubs big tournament is coming for November so its grind time. My goal is to win, I came second last time. It would be pretty awesome to win infront of the club. Hows Kenjutsu going? Youāre learning Kata now? What type of moves do you typically learn? Do you guys do all the different hits like Men, Kote, Do, Tsuki? How about different stances? Chudan, Jodan etc?
Did some clinch work drills and exercises last Saturdayā¦man they were tiring.
Iām really enjoying my classes, itās definitely improved my conditioning and cardio which is my goal.
Did some heavy bag work on Sunday at the regular gym.
Trying to figure out the best way to incorporate weights into my routine.
I want to maintain my strength but I think I should be focused more on pulling/rowing than the pushing muscles.

Thatās awesome man! Iām looking forward to getting to the point where I can spar but I know next to nothing right now, so thatās a ways off. how many tournaments do you compete in per year?
The class Iām in is going well, Weāre working on a lot of the yellow belt stuff right now, like rolls, basic jujutsu stuff, takedowns, locks, punches, etc in addition to a bit of sword stuff. The kata weāve done are ichi giri and ni giri, and weāve worked on rolls into draws. All real basic stuff, but the class moves kind of fast, though we review several of the techniques from class to class. Sometimes Iād prefer to spend a single class on 2 or 3 concepts rather than a whole bunch, but Iām the newb so I understand the others would probably get bored if it were tailored to me right now. There are 3 classes a week though and I go to two of them so Iām getting a good bit of time in and enjoying it quite a bit.

Thats awesome. My only advice to you would be to start trying to go three times a week. The difference between doing something twice a week vs three times etc. is actually very substantial. I know it seems hard to believe but its the difference between being just ok vs being good. Happy to hear its going well. If you have any questions or tips Iām sure I can probably help
