Do YOU do any Martial Arts?

Always go for a front choke. I think people think wrist locks look cool so try ir out. You work to the double wrist lock. The guillotine and double wristlock are my defensive positions for a single.

Who the fuck is shooting a single in a street fight? Why are you in the kumite outside of bars

Now and then you’ll get some roided up grappling scrub who thinks they’re top shit. Footballers tend to tackle in the street as well.

Good god i find it funny one time a guy tried to swing at me, and i got him
With double over hooks. And just gave him a long hug against the wall until security came

I fucking hate going to bars in florida

Took my first martial arts class at the muay thai place yesterday.
First time doing this in 8 years when I took Krav Maga for a month.

My arms, hands, and fingers are sore. I don’t know how I did this so easily as a kid or in my twenties. 32 here and damn, I feel old but it was a good session, way better than going to the gym.

If it is a good one the conditioning drills should have killed you

It was an all levels class so there were kids and adults, I was huffing and puffing just in the warmup from jogging and core work.

The structure was similar to what I did before in karate , jog, stretch/core warmup, drills/technique, and then some cardio work via push-ups.

Renato was leading the class.

At this stage , I would rather do Muay Thai than BJJ.

The place has a squat rack and weights, and other fitness equipment .

I love doing muay thai and boxing, i have switched to muay thai and boxing during the week because they pushed back the time for bjj. So i do grappling on fridays and thursdays. While i do striking mon-wed

The hardest thing to learn is footwork, defense, keeping your wind, and when to explode.

Grappling, muay thai, and boxing all have way different kinds of footwork

the muay thai place i went to did that. but i was always ok because i was conditioned for karate tournaments/sport karate stuff. but i always loved watching everyone else die.

Watching people die at warm ups pops me

When i lead the warmup for nogi? My god the look of sheer terror when i see guys go through the fifth lap of bear crawls, only to end with 100 hindu squats.

That is the best

Especially seeing bros break during the drills

The best drill to kill people is the standing guard passes and especially love making people do back takes after about 3 minutes of pummelling

Seeing people comeback for more makes me happy

Felt compelled to add a comment

We started working on sword kata in kenjutsu tonight, which is great because that’s the part of it I’m most interested in. Gotta get myself a decent bokken though so I don’t keep having to borrow the instructor’s extra like a scrub… :disappointed:

Tae Kwon Do.

Don’t worry, the Bokuto aren’t too expensive. You should be able to find one from local shop for like 25 bucks. My advice is to get one thats a light colour since dark ones are usually painted and then look crappy after, you’ve started using them since the paint chips off/stains your partner’s bokuto.

I follow these guys on Youtube. I think their videos are great.

this is probably not that important but I have to purchase shin guards for class.

Could anyone offer some recommendations? I don’t want something too cheap or expensive.

some cheap shin guards

I would recommend something really cheap and something that shares this design. It’s simple, it’s cheap and does the same job as the $200 ones.

Granted I have spent a lot of time shin conditioning already; but it’s good that have shin guards when sparring or drilling. I often forget my shin guards and end up wearing whatever piece of crap they have at the gym. The crap-tacular dinged up ones at the gym do an equally good job as the fancy pants one I have at home

O and if you go to Thailand, you can buy shin guards that are paper thin. You can wear those during smokers and kick the shit out of the other guy. During sparring and drilling, of course, where appropriate shin guards.

The overwhelming majority of jiu jitsu practitioners couldn’t win a state wrestling title. It’s filled with so many geeks it’s really hard to believe sometimes.
