Against a person who can only strike, yes, grappling is generally superior. It requires less overall effort to put someone onto the ground than it does to play a striking game.
This isnât weird.
If you take a pure grappler versus a pure striker, the grappler usually has the advantage - this is why cross training became popular again.
Mike Tyson would do a bunch of wrestling drills like hip heist, neck bridging, and worked from clinch.
Wrestlers are way strict in their training and come with a mentality of not quitting until you win
Garbrandt and Cruz started as wrestlers and grapplers crostrain. What won garbrandt that fight was head movement and footwork. Also cruz got him in the end with better positional control, but it didnât make up for the 3 rounds he lost.
A grappler has the advantage because the striker would be worried about defending the takedown and the scramble.
Look at khabib toss around johnson and control him like nothing.
Grapplers have to hold two on one (hands) to maintain their grapple, this is fine with no attacking vital points but the grappler will have to reset his grasp to prevent dangerous strikes to eyes, finger breaks, throat strikes, bites, knee collapsing (all things banned in mma). This is the reality. Grappling needs to manipulate with two hands but these things alter the grappling process. Thatâs the reality of street fighting
You donât know how grappling works and how fast everything goes down.
The finer points are about getting the guy down for control and keeping control. You also go by the idea in a nhb/street fight environment the trained grappler wonât go dirty.
Nobody said WRESTLING was weaker than striking I said it was just as useful as the other forms, other people who canât read saw it as GRAPPLING vs striking and backed you up saying GRAPPLING is superior.
No its not superior to striking because a well place strike could end a fight in less than a second, and an illegal strike can negate any hold. Holds are so powerful because when people get grappled their natural instinct is to try to regain balance
Try to do wrestling while someone is tearing into your groin or with their fingers deep in your sockets
Wrestling is a great art which BOOSTS striking ability and likewise striking is a great art that boosts grappling transitions. WAKE UP
I train in an mma gym and yeah if your slacking you wonât see a tackle coming if you cant sprawl, if you have experience you can stop it and do what you want with their face while theyâre trying to carve your balance. The fact is there are no muscles protecting your eyes or your balls and all you need to do is stomp on their knee if you want to prevent attempts, even missing shits grapplers up. Once you make them bleed it changes their focus and slows down their reaction. If you canât handle the force from the attempts you will have trouble breathing efficiently which makes each attempt easier for them but if you know how maintain balance your free to pretty much do whatever âillegalâ move you want
Iâm pretty good though so thatâs probably why it sounds like Iâm putting wrestling down, Iâm just telling you learn how to use minimum effort when preventing take downs and uâll realise how much you can do during that time
You ainât doing shit though. Within that time pressed against a wall they lock up the double and pull you down or complete a snapdown on your ass
Yeah see now you are splitting hairs here. A competent wrestler will takedown a karate dude or a boxer like that. But most guys getting into a fight are shitheads who canât throw a punch and if they can they donât know what a sprawl is, or using the wall to stay up or really much
You sprawl, but a good wrestler will cut an angle and switch to a high crotch or body lock
