im actually kinda scared of some of the injuries im worried about. my knee still tweaks and randomally swells up that i had an acl/mcl/meniscus tear on.
i prob have minor cte just from years of point fighting, those early years you are shitty and your gettin hit in the head alot. not to mention all those mma training years/bjj years. ive been slammed a bunch in bjj when i was younger.
ive rolled my ankles badly alot
im just pretty sure im gonna be a hot mess by 45 lol.
So many assholes do bjj and slam your head because they saw some guy do it in ufc
I remember having my head dribbled by one guy. I had to get checked out by the doc who rolls.
Guy who dribbled my head did it to four people including a fighter. He was quickly choked out and never came back
I wonder what effects getting choked has done to me. Blacking out cannot be good
What you guys say is pretty scary - injuries, surgeries, parkinson ? I thought sport/martial arts should keep you healthy, not the other way around.
I went to a dojo to watch a karate lesson - sensei told me to join them and I had my first ever karate training. Boy, was it tough, all the muscles were hurting the next day. But it felt good, and it was fun, and I liked it. I think I will start karate for real from monday.
Martial arts aināt going to give you Parkinsons. I have a family history of it, though.
If you get dropped on your head too much, or take too many hits to the head, though, yeah, you can develop CTE. No different to other athletes who do contact sports (football anyone?)
Parkinsonās is a disease that eats away at your motor system, and as a result your balance, too. Any activity that forces you to pay close attention to your body alignment helps strengthen those fine motor skills.
Tai Chi in particular, is all about weight distribution and moving certain parts of your body in alignment with others. Any sort of intricate choreography will do the same thing, it doesnāt have to come from martial arts.
My grandmother has it, and my father is starting to have onsets of Parkinson-like symptoms (he could have Parkinsonism, not Parkinsonās Disease). Itās not known to be hereditary no, but with two degrees of relatives affected, my doctors have told me to be wary.
Iāve still got 30 years before I need to be worried anyway.
You talk about martial art related aches and pains. I drive with the radio on every single time. My fiance gets sick when she hears my knees. They creak and pop when changing gear or using the breaks. Haha. And if I turn my neck to the left to fast it cracks. Which gets annoying. I sit on the right side of the office, everybody who calls me is on my left. I cant put my palms flat down when pushing myself up when I stand. I have to assist myself with fists. My wrists are just far to rubbery now.
So I officially joined a traditional karate club. I chose karate since I wanted to avoid the full contact training that I understand is done in kyokushin or tae kwondo. After 3 weeks I am really happy with this choice, one of the best decision Iāve made last year. I really like martial arts, and the workout is great. The first week was really tough, though. One training session we did 50 straight punches (ouki tsuki ?) and then 50 mae geri. When I returned home I was finished, I could barely move, all muscles were hurting. Next training we did some kind of high kicks. Back home I had to lift up my left leg with my hands, since the muscle was really hurting. But slowly my body adapted and now I feel really well.
For now iām doing some streching since I want to increase leg flexibility and be able to perform the split. Btw, doing the split is useful in karate, itās not just to show off, right ?
I havenāt done Wing Chun in a whole 5 weeks. All the guys there are dicks. Usually, thereās one knucklehead per martial arts group, well this group, theyāre all knuckleheads, wtf. I had to miss one week because w/e reasons, then I really didnāt want to come back, 1 weeks became 2 and so on.
lmfao no its not. its point fighting. knockouts can happenā¦but its not a full contact. you cant even punch to the head. i have my black belt in olympic tkd.
