Do YOU do any Martial Arts?

This site called www.kyokushin4life.com . I actually heard about this event months ago and the story about Pauly Silva earlier this year. Most full contact karate events don’t allow head punches but you can kick and knee to the head which can make for some interesting KOs. They do have some head punching karate events but it looks more like K-1 kickboxing.

hey all,

being involved in the martial arts actually got me into fighting games. but i’m still pretty awful with these games.

i trained at the Gracie Barra Chicago gym for several years. luckily there was also a Muay Thai coach who trained there and offered to coach, so some of us got to train two styles for the price of one.

after a couple years there, i earned by blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and have been training in Muay Thai for about that long as well.

prior to all that, i did train Shotokan karate at ITKA Chicago for close to 5 years, and earned my 3rd kyu (brown belt), but gave all that up for BJJ and MT.

i currently live right outside of Memphis and train at the Fisher’s Bang MMA gym.

Man so my favorite thing to do when rolling now are gator rolls and cradle tosses.

Doing perfectplexes to people from the front headlock is now my best sweep/takedown.

But my sub is n/s choke

ha! that’s some high-light reel stuff yer going for!

do you do that regularly during practice? i’d imagine there would have to be some serious control to prevent knocking the wind out of your partner.

also, if you don’t mind me asking, what do you usually use as a transition after that, to prevent the scramble?

Perfect plex isn’t really a big toss. it is just me cradling then rolling them over my shoulder. I usually transition to side control or darce.

Dudes get all discombobulated rolling and getting tossed without taking a big back bump.

So there has been a change in my coaching career. Instead of coaching junior high I will coach the high school guys. So that means I get to do weight training. I got to attend my first coaches meeting today. It was weird because I’m the youngest coach there. Anyway all eyes are on me because this is the first year in several that they are bringing wrestling back. All I know is that I got my work cut out for me. Because none of these kids have any experience wrestling. Either way I am going to start fleshing out my training regimen and then I will have to figure out how I should go about weight training.

ah ok

So it has been a while since I posted here, but today was the official first practice for HS wrestling.

Only two kids showed up, but they showed a lot of heart and really worked hard. I know exactly how I want to train them. They were really excited and ready to work, so it made my job easy.

So here is the weight room (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic). We start weight training Wednesday and then it will be three days a week.

Woooooww

sucks only two people showed up but who cares…if i lived near ya id come out and support ya guys.

I know ima have my brother come out and us demonstrate some big and do some rolling. It will give them some change in pace and help with controlling the ground.

So has anyone else had thoughts or fantasies about becoming an action star? Like fight scenes and what not? The gym had kinda motivated me to actually train for parkour and I’ve been watching videos. If anything, I’d actually like to just do fight scenes, though I’m aware it’s far from easy.

It’s interesting you say that. I know I am working on a short film project and I am linking up with one of my buddies to do a crssover. Since there are no stunt teams in Cincinnati, so I basically have to link up with some of the other martial arts guys and see what we can do. The biggest thing is that they way the scene needs to be shot and what not. I am going more for a film noir style martial arts film. But that discussion is better suited for the martial arts movie thread. Also talk to @Maxx as well, dude knows his stunt teams and can really hip you to game.

parkour doesnt train you for stunts as in fights, might get you some commercial work though, as well as some double stuff. where are you from? i might be able to point you in the right direction.

Lol dramatix gonna want some man butt now maxx

I live in Maryland. My residence isn’t too far from Baltimore, and I’m sure there’s something there.

Now maybe if you got some man butt, you wouldn’t be such a dick.

So you learn but never actually put it into use or practice against a live opponent? Martials arts pale in comparison to situational awareness when it comes to self defense.

Muay Thai is utter garbage. I haven’t met one Muay Thai guy that has good hands. Being able to utilize your hands is the safest and most efficient way of attacking.

In MMA boxing fundamentals are almost non-existent. When a guy like Anderson Silva uses it people claim he’s all Muay thai because of him clinching Rich Franklin 8 years ago. The fact is he uses his footwork to set everything up, and uses his hands to finish the job most of the time. If you try to catch (not parry, but catch) someones punch it’s difficult. You can catch a leg on impact because the human body doesn’t retract the limb nearly as quickly.

i know a ton of martial arts trickers and just stunt people in general out there. let me see where i can direct ya to.

Boxing for mma is head movement and defensive footwork

Wrestlers plant their feet to the ground

Tkd guys who wrestle to me have the best footwork

Pettis, Bendo, silva all have good foot work

Ok so its been 3 weeks training in the taekwondo school. Yesterday I did my first sparring against an opponent. I was wondering for blocking if I have to be in a stance or do I just stand where I am and block.
