At least not without saying “Hah!?” a lot after doing it. And by ‘fight’, I mean ‘pro wrestling performance.’ And by ‘anybody’ I mean ‘Scott Steiner.’ (Before anyone jumps on me or misunderstands… yes, I’m well aware pro wrestling is choreographed. I’m making a joke!)
To get back on topic: Um, wow. What provoked that fight? To me it just looked like the two of them were pacing around, then did a routine of ‘dodged’ dance moves. Sure, they clipped one another at a few points but it didn’t look so bad that it justified turning things into a brawl? I’ve been hit way worse than that on accident in training and took my partner at their word when they were all “Oops, my mistake! Sorry!” about it. What am I missing here? Or are these guys as out of their minds as they appear to be?
Um why you gotta defend that you are a pro wrestling fan brother? Like that makes you look bad in a forum populated by people who play video games and Read comics?
The whole reason i got into ufc was because i thought it was wrestling. I bugged my parents to put me in martial arts so i could learn how to do sweet chin music and those bad ass kicks ultimo dragon would do.
Also those guys are brazilian, they “fight cuz he look at me”
When I was in middle school I was asked to join the wrestling team. I joined because I thought it would be like pro wrestling. I was all excited, that I was thinking up special variations of power bombs and German suplexes (my favorite moves). Wreslitng will always be dear to me, lol. Heck everyone knows that they can’t bother me on Monday’s and Friday evenings because I’m watching WWE, lol. A kid at my old Judo dojo told me that my Kata Guruma resembled Cena’s “F U”. SO deep down I felt good about myself.
Dear God I hope not. I am not a Cena fan. Well I used to be, but then I started to get bored, especially since I love technical wrestling. But the kid was also six at the time, so it made sense why he istantly identified the move as a wrestling move. I found it funny that he didn’t know the actual name of the move for Judo considering his dad was the head instructor…
Heh, fair enough! I tend toward defensive writing, assuming that someone, somewhere will not get the reference and go on the warpath about it. Had a few bad experiences with it at work a while back (I actually got into pretty big trouble due to a reader complaining about a clarifying omission along these lines, though this was a few years ago at another job entirely)… still trying to get over it. Sorry about that, and thank you for being understanding.
Still, that incident is just… wow. I cannot see any point to it, and it gets even worse when basically half the building jumps in on one side or the other. Scary stuff. Funny when you’re a healthy distance away from it, but nonetheless: Daaaaamn, that is messed up.
Good stuff. My fraternal-twin best friends were on the wrestling team in high school, and their older brother who graduated from the same school a few years before us, is very well known there. I’ve watched a match where one of them (the boy) dragged a guy back onto the match. Here’s the match if anyone wants to watch it though.
I’ve had several people ask me to join the basketball and football teams, but I never cared for either of them. However, everyone was against the idea of me joining the wrestling team because I was too nice, which didn’t make any sense seeing they were the same people who used to question why I wasn’t on the football team. However, it was only a thought, and I prefer to use my hands and feet when I fight.
AM wrestling is bittersweet to me. Mainly it’s what introduced me to any type of grappling, but then once I got into Judo it was a different story. I could get penalized or disqualified for a number of throws in Judo if i were to use them in AM wrestling. I was told that they are too rough. Also a lot of wrestlers are taught to not tap, which I think is stupid. I have faced a lot of wrestlers in Judo who did not tap and got choked out. It’s not worth the potential injury to hold out.
After having done Judo, watching that above video, and remembering wrestling in high school, I just keep thinking they’re so open for throws. But still it’s a good workout. I just wish they’d have fewer regulations. (and I wish Judo would adopt BJJ rules, but traditions die hard)
My buddy did Judo and then did wrestling in high school, and during practice he would often sweep or tai otoshi and they’d complain it was illegal. Funny.
Yeah man, a lot of wrestlers I faced would try to shoot, to which I was so used to turning and countering that I would use that forward momentum. I agree that it is a good workout though. I think it’s good to get your blood flowing and develop great cardio. I love using the tai otoshi, but I really favored the kata guruma and the osoto gari along with the tomo nagi. My most used throw would have to be the uchi mata (man I love that throw).
I am honestly surprised in all of the time I did Judo, not once did I hear of someone’s balls getting knocked during an uchi mata. It just seems like it would have to happen once or twice…
So it looks like my instructor wants me to compete in a karate tournament that’s two months out. Anyone have any advice for training? I have never entered a karate tournament (just judo) so any training tips would be great.
bb? Well I know about Judo training, I am more wondering about Karate training for tourneys? I know you compete in Karate (if I remember correctly you took 3rd in a recent tourney). But yeah what should I expect from a Karate tourney?
