None of you guys originally made OG. I’ve been hearing that since I was 7 from NWA. And by your definition you would disqualify the northeast, south and pockets of the midwest where strong scenes existed. I think many of you guys from way back then feel that way because SRK originated in California and has become the central hub for the Street Fighter tournament scene.
I get what you’re saying, but the others might not. Explain to them what this community is about.
The problem with being sarcastic is it kind of falls flat when the other guy is entirely too earnest.
It’s about how you play the game of course, I thought everybody knew that
Wasn’t that the thing? “I don’t give a fuck who your friend is, how good are* you*?”
been here since 01
I’d Consider me an OG Lurker than anything else. My lurking history far outstretches my actual campaign under profile.
I thought you’d do better than that. Volleyball, junior. Not baseball.
Though I have been here almost ten years, I don’t consider myself “OG” by any means. Even though GD has changed over time, some of the old school members are still kicking around(which serves as a nice reminder for the post SF4 guys around here).
is there any1 on here that has played from Sf2: WW or even 1?
that would be a real OG
-would have to be like 40
Many top players didnt aren’t even old enough to have played 2 seriously.
You were gonna say that no matter what I said though
I’m from the CvS2, 3S, MVC2 era.
To be considered an OG from that time on SRK you need to be able to perform the following.
-Sentinel Unblockeable
-Magneto ROM infinite.
-ShoShoShoSho
-Paint the fence
-Chun Li SGGK
-Short Shot super (real shortshort super, not shitty ass SF4 version)
-Charge Partioning.
-America’s Favorite DHC
-Urien Unblockeables
-RC Blanka Electricity
-RC Honda Hands
-Magneto’s 5 fierce combo.
-Fast fly/Unfly combos.
and many more, but if you can do all these above that’s pretty good already :lovin:
Funnily, I’ve been playing from Karate Champ/Yie Ar days, but I’d never ever call myself an OG.
It’s all about this particular community, not the games.
I was here before SF4, but I don’t consider myself an OG member… niggas ran me out of here hardbody in 2006.
Im an OG 11’er and not even been here for a year
NWA, Ice T. … Be serious, Razor. Obviously the entire discussion about “OG” in reference to the scene. In what world did I even bring up who came up with “OG?” smh
On that note. A little history. The term OG, in the SF scene was popularized by socal and most notably Mike Watson as it was spouted endlessly at B3(Mostly by Mike iirc).
A little more history for your sake, Razor. I’m not trying to be a jerk. This is how it was and where OG came from with regard to SRK and the scene. You know what really disqualifies you as OG? You aren’t a dominator. The only reason OGLA is OGLA is because, it just so happened to be that Socal dominated the entire SF world early on as established by tournaments. That, right there, is what disqualified the rest of the country. They couldn’t hang. Don’t even act like anywhere else was strong because you’d be completely incorrect. I have lived in 7 states. No one outside of Cali could really touch me. I didn’t even play for years and it never changed. Fine, other areas were strong … unless you compare them to Cali. It wasn’t until 98 that Eddie Lee stepped up and proved that someone outside of Cali could take a tournament. Keeping it real, Cali totally dominated the entire scene until then.
The term OG can be whatever you want it to be but in the context of SF history it was strictly used for the originally dominators that went on to dominate for years. If an OG scrubbed out, he’d lose status for a minute cuz…that’s not very OG. Why? It isn’t DOMINANT. OG isn’t a term for just aging folks who have been around awhile. It was the term for the ones dominating. Morph it into what you want it to mean, now. Just don’t be butthurt from old school facts of the scene because you or your friends were excluded. That was the point back then. You wanna be in the club? You win.
I wasn’t disqualifying certain favorite areas of yours. If anything, I disqualified the entire rest of the country. Because that is the plain truth of it.
If you want to be OG forum poster…that’s cool. But it was ported from the popularity of the term in the scene. It was an exclusive club. lol really meaningless terms to irk competitors. It’s really meaningless…the scene gave it meaning, I guess, to kind of offer some sort of prestige for the ones everyone wanted to beat. It was something beyond pro/scrub.
Damn son you still alive? You know my birthday is on the LAST Friday the 13th of this year lol.
You talking about this book?
I remember that, for the specific reason of that it had all the names of the regular attacks translated lol. I still got that and the wallposter somewhere back at the old house.
Why am I not surprised that Watson’s the one that came up with that?
And again, its funny because the ones still DOMINATING (nice caps) aren’t referred to as OGs much these days, its the has-beens (Like, ironically, Mike Watson)
I’ve been lurking around the old srk since like 2001 when i first really got into 3s and cvs2. i never registered until 2006 for whatever reason. I remember reading the domination 101 back when it first came out.
That’s the one. The Versus Book. Fuck, I don’t even know where I’m getting superbook.
The best part was that there was serious discussion about the properties of every move and what they were useful for. Think of the shittiness of the other game books at the time (“throw a fast fireball, then a slow one!”) and compare them to this book.
I meant the term itself. In this thread, I’ll take it as a forum OG, because the VAST majority of top players don’t post here. In fact, it’s hard for me to think of players who posted anywhere on SRK after 2002. I got into the scene in 2000 and know the history of SoCal dominance and I wasn’t taking anything away from anyone who had to go through that gauntlet before the Internet made information readily available.
Valle’s captain america was amazing
