like in order to do meaty counter hits on wake up and beat their options consistently to the point it works everytime
Yes
why though ? if u don’t mind me asking
Ok, I’ll bite:
What do you mean by set-up in that context?
If you mean some form of trap: No (kinda).
If you mean a sequence of moves, designed to kill just enough frames to hit your opponent meaty, then: Yes!
Of course you can go by feel when you go for a meaty, but that is not consistent.
When I get somebody into a combo ending in v-skill cancel>launcher with Akuma, I’ll get a meaty every fucking time by doing a specific sequence of frame-kills, if I have practiced it enough.
So of course you want to have set-ups for your meaties, even better if you have multiple ones for the same situation, just to fuck with your opponents expectations.
Especially in SFV where moves in general have a very low count of active frames coupled with 3 wake-up options, it’s difficult to just go by feel and hit a button on their wake-up that beats 3-4 frame reversals.
Then add to that characters like season 1 Nash who came with a 1 frame reversal, where you gotta research if you even have a set-up that truly hits meaty and not on the 2nd or 3rd frame.
i mean like killing frames type setups so basically if u do a setup where if u are plus for say like 20 frames from a hard knockdown
and u do a setup where like u whiff a few moves how do u know what moves to whiff ? like to not go over the amount of time u have from a hard knockdown advantage depending on what recovery they did etc like do u go by startup or recovery or both
You count frames.
Say you’re +30 on knockdown and your meaty is 8 frames on startup, all you gotta do is fill the gap with one or two moves that total 22 frames.
thank u man i appreciate this so much.
