DIY scanline generator question

Has anyone built a scanline generator using this scematic ? If so I need to know whitch to permanant linke to have odd rows and fat lines as I want to leave off the switches other than power in.

I have it wired with green and orange on width and and purple with orange but without a switchable one to compare to I’m not sure if it’s correct but I do have scanlines lol even when watching netflix

Is this correct ?

So no help here ?

You are sailing in waters I never been in.

This is the best I can do for you, and there alot to sift though

Ok, just built the full circuit and I was right that’s the optimal setting with just an on off. For anyone else wondering lol

This does only work with 640 x 480 and the third option on the gonbes converters but great for what I was wanting to use it for.

I found that the XRGB series function much more reliably and with less lag than the Gonbes.
I myself uses a XRGB 2 Plus. The catch is the XRGB devices cost alot more than the Gonbes.

Well I’m out about 30 for my scaler and diy slg. I have noticed no lag with the gonbes but I live in the states so if anyone is in the pal region maybe they can leave some feedback on this.

PS2 and WII both look great with component to vga and that version of the slg. Other than the quality of the camera on my phone.

The Gonbes adds about 2 frames of lag, not enough for the human eye to pick up but enough to throw off your timing in games.

Here is a site that explains and reviews various gaming video options

I also found you get a cleaner picture if you go with RGB output from the start.
Component isn’t bad, but the 15 hz RGB provided from RGB enabled scar cables (or the direct video output of most arcade boards) can be converted to what we commonly call VGA (31 hz RGBHV) or even HDMI much easier.

like I said I live in the states, and I have component modded most of my systems so it’s easy to have a component switch box to one output to the gonbes with my diy slg on this setup with an external scanline switch for on/off I would have to buy scart cables for all my systems to re-invent the setup. So with the price of two quality scart cables I have made a scaler with scanlines inter-graded. I have cabinets for my cga boards to have their native resolutions. At this time it’s all about ease of access and making something my 5 year old can use.

I live in the US as well. And I know scart is almost non-existent here, but there those who do sell the cables online.

And you do not have to give up your current video scheme using component, Component video is about level with RGB in terms of picture quality. Your Doing all retro systems so you will not have anything that does pass 480 anyways. If I made a small component to d-terminal adapter I could run Component on my XRGB 2 +
(it as a d-terminal port instead of Component video RCA jacks but the 2 are electronically compatible).

Anyways back to my original point, the gonbes certainly does the job but its differently not the best choice you can have. And the image is definitely fuzzy with out a good scanline generator like you already have built.
Out of all the Recommended upscallers, line doublers and image converters the Gonbes (which is a HD Box Pro Clone) is at the bottom of the barrel.

I not saying not to use a Gonbes, I want you and anyone who reads this to know despite being able to do the job, there are far better choices, even if you want to stick to Component.

XRGB device with RGB is usually the way to go.

Right now I’m looking to do the mod darksakul mentioned by taking all my SCART cables and making them custom VGA cables. It’s my underdstanding it’s the best way to do it for every console up to the PS2 not including the X-box and Gamecube. That’s as good as it gets I hear.

30 bucks is all I’m saying lol

Yeah me and Smash Bro here debated and research for hundreds of hours on the topic, talked to folk and asked on other forums. Go to the NEO GEO forums or the Shmup forums they will pretty much tell you what we are.

I’m always afraid I’m coming off as a guy that asks way too many questions for negligible quality differences. But hey, it pays off.

Disagree about asking too many questions, agree about pay off, can’t double rate.
