You can hit some of the chars you can’t normally hit by karaing the jab dash punch with mk/hop kick. I dunno all the chars he misses but I can hit Cody/Adon with it but not Honda sadly.
Was unaware with Adon, and I was calling myself a scrub…
I dunno where to start with Yun if I pick him up again. I’ve forgotten all the stuff I learned before changing characters then taking a break. Q.Q That and every other match I get online is Gief. Not even a good Gief to learn a bad matchup, just a I will lariat everything on reaction Gief.
if they are still high in the air after you land you can use lk upkicks. If they are jumping in neutral you can try to tag them with EX upkicks (much easier due to startup) or HK upkicks or you can try to tag them with a lunge punch on their way down.
Against focus if they are doing it in neutral you can try to lunge it if they are doing it after you jump you can try the air target combo [doesn’t work on all chars consistently] or abandoning the dive kick and hitting them with upkicks/throw when you land.
If you are diving into a ready to rip lvl 2 focus then you got too predictable.
You think its better to smash mk upkicks since it 1-7 unthrowable compare to hk upkicks? I tested out in training mode and it seem to break ticks throw better. Thats what i notice or maybe it just me. Before I use to only smash hk upkicks to get out of jail.
Well it might be better to smash hk upkicks since it crounching opponents as well. I guess it all depends on the situation.
No? LK won’t hit crouching opponents either but it’s got full invincibility (becoming airborne before it wears off) unlike MK. Also does more damage (lolaenerfs.) EX does all of it better but costs a meter obviously…
Ever since reading the manga Kenji and watching a Hong Kong documentary, I’ve sorta fallen in love with Baji Quan as a style. So late-AE2012 I tried switching to Yun from Fei Long and Adon, but I just can’t seem to grasp how I’m supposed to play this char.
I dropped SF4 for a while and grabbed Ultra last week. Tried my hand at Yun again, but it’s still a uphill battle to just play even against (low ranked) online players. Is it just the online portion that goes against me, or is it a matter of maybe just having too different a playstyle from Fei and Adon?
Its for AE yun but the process to make dives safe vs dps is the same.
However there are specific setups that allow for deeper anti DP cross up dive kicks but they are specifically timed.
For manually timed dive setups you want to hit them around the back of their shoulder/upper back when they stand up to make them wiff/get air reset if you just doing it manually timed and spaced. This jacks up your frame advantage a bit though if they stand block.
After MK upkicks and Forward throw there are anti dp cross up dives that hit deep and blow up dps but are specific setups.
Is there any info on Yun’s dive kick frame data for Ultra? I always find myself being jabbed out after a HK DK which is spaced just above the knees of a Ryu size character. Also, this character is a world of fun, except for when I’m fighting a grappler.
Are you doing cr.lk or cr.lp after the divekick, might want to try cr.lp as it is faster if you are unsure you hit the divekick properly. There is also the possibility you are doing the light attack too late after doing the divekic, so when another player mashes their light attack it will beat yours. People really love to stand throw, reversal, mash lights and backdash after blocking a divekick. The divekick is unchanged as far as i know.
I hardly ever did manually timed divekicks and just went mostly with the deep crossup divekicks on wakeup, which honestly is way too telegraphed. It is too obvious and gives the opponent too much time to prepare.
I’ve lately been doing alot more grounded pressure with manually timed divekicks when they are blocking on wakeup or doing a crouchtech, also more cr.lk, st.lp OS, meaty cr.mp etc. Simply standing in front of the opponent on their wakup is a much scarier mixup as you have alot more options available than going for the telegraped crossup divekick attempt.
I’ve never been too much of a setup based player, aside from the common standard setups, the slightly different timings for the crossup divekick on all the characters was slightly irritating, so playing a game more akin to getting a grasp on the type of player the opponent is, feel more natural and eventually rewarding to me. Still will use alot of the deep crossup divekicks and some other setups though, however i think i finally found a decent balance in my gameplay.
Damn how long does it take to learn double tap like that. Is it really necessary to double tap in order to hit your link consistency? Any of y’all guys use double tap?
