Star Wars is based on a lot of stuff including jidai-geki films.
J.J. Abrams will be directing VII.
But,he had just said not even a few weeks ago that he didn’t want to direct it and even if he did he’s too booked with Star Trek to even think about Star Wars. lol

Disney threw money at Abrams and he took it. He’s a safe choice honestly and Disney is all about making that money and they saw how he turned the Star Trek franchise around.
It’s part of the negotiating tactics for Hollywood guys like him. He needed to lie and covered up his track until the deal was 100% officially done.
I think it’s safe to assume that statement from Snyder’s rep was a lie as well.
I don’t really care at this point, but at least with Star Trek, Abrams uses real sets instead of a giant green screen room, and knows how to make danger seem real and tangible to the viewer. The fucking Star Wars prequels were basically this [media=youtube]RYZTDF_48hc[/media]
