Discuss Useful Hit-confirms

As the topic.
Let’s try to keep it to confirms that are reliable on cps3 (not emu) or OE. Emu is quick, as is PS2 and some things that are difficult on arcade become extremely difficult or border on completely insane (on emu).

I’d just like to hear what everyone has success with.

of course you’ve got your
cr.lk, cr.lk xx SAI or SAII (must be done point blank)
cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lk xx SAI

Both are extremely reliable (even on emu) and I think anyone can do them with only a bit of practice.

cl.hp, ex hadou xx SAI
cl.mp, ex hadou xx SAI (SAII with normal hadou)
cr.hp, ex hadou xx SAI (SAII with normal hadou)
cr.mp, ex hadou xx SAI (SAII with normal hadou)
cl.mk, ex hadou xx SAI (SAII with normal hadou, need to cancel early, if late SAII will whiff)
cr.mk, ex hadou xx SAI (SAII with normal hadou, range dependent)

You can use a normal hadou of course and that will allow you to confirm into SAII in some situations but obviously that isn’t exactly safe. Specifically it isn’t safe if you have someone cornered. I’m not sure which characters can punish a blocked hadou from the corner with what but you’re definitely in range of a lot of shit. Mid-screen is different.

f.hp, SAII

There are more esoteric and difficult confirms using shoryu that might be useful for denjin or shin sho but in general I wouldn’t consider those reliable in any sense unless you spend the time. You can ‘confirm’ basically anything if you spend the time but I think that’s more a discussion about being flashy and cool than functional.

Except if you can confirm off any normal, in which case you are the god of ryu and should be praised as such.

Edit: I’m just going to keep adding things as I think of them.

I get a lot of use out of cross up mk cl mk ex joudan to whatever. Does that count as useful?

Yeah definitely. I wasn’t really thinking of jump in/cross up confirms because they’re easy and I was thinking of super confirms specifically. When you get 2 normals in a row and then a special to confirm, that’s a lot of time. Actually that may be a good thing to tell people new to the game to start on if they want to develop their reflexes for confirming.

But, yeah that’s a great one. Crossup using mk and then cl.mk into basically whatever you want is great.

The ex joudan really ties it together though. Fucking side kick to the gut hard enough to wall bounce into whatever you please. Opens up a lot of fun creative mixup options not relevant here or another hard hit

Yeah ex joudan is extremely important to his game but that’s a different sort of discussion.

Also the stuff I listed is stuff that’s totally doable on emu or whatever basically. If anyone wants to discuss really difficult confirms (like confirming off a shoryu or cr.mk, that sort of stuff) that’s cool too but I don’t see those as being incredibly useful, reliable, or necessarily even doable on emu or ps2 really, though maybe.

This isn’t meant to be a thread explaining this stuff or being specifically informative. I just figured somewhere for people to talk about confirming with ryu might be useful.

I’m not sure how old this is, but I haven’t really seen it before (or at least no setups/timings), so I’ll post it just in case.

After landing a forward throw, meaty overhead (F+MP) can lead to some sick confirms and can be as high as +10f to 11f on a crouching opponent (actually possible to combo regular Hadouken off of it). The frame advantage is also pretty high if you happen to hit them standing for whatever reason. Only the 2nd hit of the overhead should connect and then you can link the following:

->SA1 (pretty much free on both standing and crouching opponent and the main reason I think this could be worth adding to Ryu’s mixups)
->cr. MK xx SA1/SA2 (on crouching opponent. Also, SA2 only works on some characters and for the SA2 to connect you have to hit the cr. mk link to move Ryu close enough to the opponent on the cancel).
->cr. MK xx Hadouken/EX Hadouken (on crouching opponent)
->cr. LK xx SA1
->Hadouken/EX Hadouken (on crouching opponent… this is the tightest link I’ve found with it so far).
->Far st. MK (on crouching opponent)
->Sweep (on crouching opponent)

I worked out some easy timings to get the meaty overhead right on different characters. These are the ones I’ve got so far (all of these are after forward throw without quick standing):

-Shotos: Whiff cr. MP, then do F+MP
-Chun/Makoto/Q/Remy/Oro/Dudley/Elena: Tap down, then do F+MP
-Alex/Necro: Wait a split second then do F+MP (the tap down method works too, but this is more meaty)
-Yun/Yang/Ibuki/Hugo/Urien: Just do F+MP immediately after you recover because they wake up fast from this throw. Also it won’t be as meaty, so SA1 is pretty much the main solid confirm you can get on them (although it’s still possible to link cr. MK, or sweep, etc. on Hugo and Ibuki)
-Can’t do it on Twelve

…There are some characters that can still be caught in the corner by meaty F+MP if they quick stand after a forward throw, but I only found it on Elena so far. I’ll test more characters later.

Good stuff. I generally never do overhead MP because it is really easy to block and react to on a high level, but it can still work sometimes.
