Disappointed with strider

ahhh the 1st few months of marvel where no one could block sents c.m and his j.s was unblockable by default
But im gonna stick with strider a character with a teleport can never be bad in this game… stick it out and eventually things will begin to pick up when the character starts to feel more natural to you I mean it took ages before i started beasting with dante and even now im learning new stuff with him

The thing with Dante and Zero is even if you don’t learn their more advanced tactics, you can get away with mashing their high priority sword normals and get decent damage with day 1 combos. Strider has some of the lowest normal damage in the game and his advanced wallbounce combos/corner loops barely scrape 400k (which most chars get with basic magic series). Not only that, his confirms are very timing and spacing specific as his normals do no have the massive hitstun/priority that other dumb characters do (cough Wesker). You have to do links for just a basic relaunch with his OTG fireball, and even if you already have it charged, you have to worry about the charge dissipating the middle of your combo. Anti-air and air-to-air confirms I haven’t even figured out, but I’d imagine they’re also tricky as hell.

Having said that, he has some of the best solo mixups in the game, he has tools to control the entire screen and best of all (for me) he is fun as hell to play.

While I believe Strider has potential to be one of the best in the game, even when you get past the execution hurdles, the fact is you still have to deal with the subpar damage output and abysmal health in a game where high health characters easily deal more damage with derp combos. For sure though, at worst he’s an amazing assist character.

The game came out last tuesday for most of us. I started playing strider that night and I’ve been getting better and better since then. Yeah sometimes I will get blown up when I do something stupid cuz his health is so low but those times I actually execute combos correctly and cross people up with vajra and ouroburous you just rape people. It will just take time and practice for us to get used to playing him and dealing with other characters. Don’t give up yet! My friend said Strider reminds him of Chip Zanuff from Guilty Gear if any of you know who that is. Kill or be killed whoop whoop =)

Yeah Strider and Chipp are very similar. Fuckin paper ninjas man.

hahaha no one ever thought dante wasnt good

Honestly if Strider gets high damage combos…I’m not sure if want to play this game anymore. His mix up is way too broken and can be started too easily with any safe assist or projectile call to warrant high damage off it. This is also considering he will end up being a character that you will literally have no way to actually defend against because he can’t be lamed out. You will just have to swing your hand or your sword and hope it hits him. If it does not…he will run through your team. On paper I don’t really see anybody this character loses to and he will be the one rushdown character that doesn’t lose to Trish, Morrigan or Firebrand in the sky. Funny enough his assist is also key to helping those other rushdown characters not lose to them as badly.

Strider has tools to lame out a ton of the cast and rushdown the runaway ones… this guy feels perfect… his health is low for a reason

Has anyone watched some of the latest strider combo videos? The guy can do damage.

But don’t forget, people are discovering that most combo based characters are popping up with 750-800k+ 1 meter BnB combos already… so anyone will be able to smack up Strider pretty much any time with a BnB, without even needing to pop XF or stack up multiple bars of meter. Seems that low health characters are more of a liability than they were in Vanilla with the new balance.

Again…that doesn’t matter if Strider ends up being another nearly untouchable low health character. Except one that you can’t even run away from. UMVC3 is going to be more about picking the character with movement and hit boxes that make them practically untouchable. You can do all the damage you want but if you can’t hit the character…it does not matter.

People are discovering how to do meterless combos that still do less damage than the DHC glitch did in Vanilla? That’s cool I guess except DHC glitch didn’t win Evo and PR Rog barely used it to make 2nd place there either. They both just set themselves up with teams that either won really fast like Viscant’s or a team like PR Rog’s where you have a character with retarded ass hit boxes that win over everything and back up him up with an assist that makes it so you can barely ever touch him even if you get close enough to touch him (Tron). That’s the shit that wins tourneys, not damage. Everybody dies fast in this game any ways. Just pick the character that doesn’t get hit and give them an assist that mitigates their chances of being hit. Of course Strider has a level 3 that basically doesn’t allow him to be hit anymore incase you ever need that.

Now that I think about it it’s pretty interesting that I remember playing casuals with one of my friends early during Vanilla’s release and getting smacked around by easy mode Dante+Tron BS. I always thought to myself “I’ve never had so much trouble hitting a character in my life in any game”. Of course that shit almost won Evo. Then of course Zero + Tron ended up winning SB.

The only way for a character like Strider to be viable is to be fuck all retarded and top tier up the ass and it’s very easy Capcom gave Strider the tools to pan out that way in tourneys. His Vajra kick assist will be a completely necessity for even some of the highest tier of characters in some matchups so he’s top tier either way.

Most like will end up being the new Dante the way things are going where you get a character that gives you ideal assists AND a character that controls the game.

Strider has the lowest health in the game? Are you serious? Everyone kept saying that he was among the top tier characters. What gives?

Phoenix has the lowest health in the game technically. Vanilla taught us you don’t need health to be top tier.

Phoenix was only top tier because of Dark Phoenix. Zero had the second lowest health and I don’t remember anyone ever considering him Top Tier.

Don’t know where you have been the past few months because people have been saying Zero was top tier long ago, and Season’s Beatings proved that.

Anyone who had ever played a competent Zero knew he was top tier

even if you don’t play Strider up front or second, Vajra and the fact that XF3 Ouroboros is absolutely ridiculous warrants a spot as anchor on any team. he’s another one of those characters who can work well on any spot in the team. again like the others said, I wouldn’t count on Strider being ass just because of his low health and damage output… as of now. I say “as of now” because it’s Zero syndrome all over again where a top tier character was put off by a lot of people early on in the game’s life for his low damage based on VERY early technology. and as Vanilla closed it was clear Zero was capable of achieving 1m+ damage solo and that’s not even counting DHC glitch. Strider IMO will turn out more or less the same with a more team-centric function because of Vajra assist’s utility.

She still didn’t have health so my point stands. Lower health characters are purposely built in with the best team crushing tools. Capcom is not going to give people low health without ensuring if they are put together with a solid gameplan that they can very well tear down a team.

Most low health characters don’t get to resurrect themselves into a stronger entity.

Suppose it’s just a matter of opinion.

I’ve heard otherwise.

Vanilla Tippity Top Tier:

Phoenix: 400k
Zero: 800k
Dante: 900k
Magneto: 850k
Viper: 900k

It’s pretty clear to everyone who was somewhat skilled at the game that the best chars had the lowest health.
