Directional Influence..... why don't more fighting games incorporate this?

that’s because most of them actually have some kind of deficiency or handicap

And “classic” 2d fighting game players are poor minorities. I’d rather be a nerd tyvm.

Lmfao dude I think I only saw like 3 that looked normal, one was a pretty cute chick.

lol your posting this on a website dedicated to a 2d fighter.

So did you seriously just drop a subtle racist jab into this? Have fun mooching off of your parents, virgin.

yeah okay because you know about hood economics give me a break

lol man I love it when srk’er gang up on Super smash babies.

lol I love it how he just generally put all 2d fighters into a category as minorities. how… whats the word… ignorant is it… stereo typical? I donno, I should have listened in school but since I play SF I’m a minority and will never know the meaning of each word…

But you had nothing to say about this:

If your going to be a hypocrite, try to do it at least a page apart.

he didn’t have anything to say about that because being mentally deficient isn’t something that is tied to race or ethnicity

dude… I read the first and last page of this retarded thread cause its useless and again, retarded. Get a hobby bro. go pick up a “learn to draw” kit and start drawing or something. Go play with your little $7 game cube controller.

Do you know what a generalization is?

Also, I am not being a hypocrite. its a fact that 9 out of 10 Super smash babies are disgustingly ugly and have some sort of defect.

No offence to the one’s who don’t. ITS NOT THE GAME, ITS THE FANBASE! STICK TO GAME FAGGS… I mean Faq’s.

I’m not a fucking game designer. I posted this thread to do what threads are supposed to do… start a discussion.

Also I like Guilty Gear. It’s actually Blazblue’s version of the burst that makes me a little annoyed (you now take a huge amount of extra damage post burst… making it so risky it rarely ever gets used.) I should have clarified.

Smash has plenty of spacing… different parts of each attack have different damage and hit properties, Marth’s sword tip for a very simple example. The Ken combo does not work without proper spacing. Anyways…

Thank you for partially agreeing with me.

Thank you for adding nothing to the discussion.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to agree with you. 90% of the smash community has their balls on smash and smash only, to the point where they try to compare it to everything, rant on and on how much better it is than other fighters, etc…

Pretty much like any fighting game community although smash is the worst along with Tekken. Although Tekken don’t brag about the game itself, they just stick to their own scene and shun others. From my observations at least as a tournament host of fighting games.

Excuse me for not always being on the internet

I think people are taking the idea of DI a little bit too seriously… DI isn’t as easy as just holding the stick in one direction. YOU CAN STILL GET COMBO’D.

It just isn’t on autopilot anymore. Every combo in smash is just a little bit different because of DI. That’s why you can make a kickass montage out of combos from real matches and it’ll be a different video from someone else’s combo video. Meanwhile all street fighter combo vids are done in training mode and either are extremely situational/impossible/impractical (the old hadoken, run across the screen and it continues the combo crap, full stun bar, etc) or a demonstration of BNB combos, combos which everyone has seen and can do. (An exception I suppose is custom combos, but usually a popular one that has maximum damage for the less amount of work gets used in actual matches).

Also people who are saying “Get this smash nonsense out of my street fighter” I’m not saying we should take street fighter and make it like smash, I was trying to get discussion going to find something that can give an edge to a player being combo’d rather than simply air teching.

Finally, for anyone here that never paid attention to Melee and have only seen the Brawl scene… plz note that the games are very different except for the most basic elements. I thought it was hilarious when SRK added a Brawl section after shunning Melee. I don’t care that that they shunned Melee, most anything on SRK that isn’t Capcom isn’t given much of a place, because well, it’s SRK. It makes sense. Brawl is a fucking joke of a game. Don’t judge the entire community over the shit storm Brawl created.

Back on topic…

QUICK QUESTION: Does Tekken have air control? I always wondered why Soul Calibur wasn’t the juggle fest that Tekken is, being that both are made by Namco.

And it’s a fact that 9/10 classic 2d fighting players are poor and part of a minority.

to MC, dude I am just messing with them. lol I have nothing against SSB players. they take stuff to seriously to be posting on SRK.

Never heard of these REAL 2D games.

With crazy fly-all-over-the-screen fighters like Marvel, Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, DI would just make a mess. DI seems like a basic failsafe to prevent infinite comboing, but most anime fighters have their own ways of avoiding that same mess.

With the possible exception of MvC2 (I think it’s an exception, but I never really played it so I wouldn’t know), pretty much every air-combo-heavy fighter has the basic mechanics of constant downward acceleration and damage proration to prevent infinite combos. The only real directions you would want to DI during any air combo would be downwards and away from your opponent, and knockback and downward acceleration give you both of those directions at the same time.

Air teching provides you with the follow up mindgame that you’re looking for (where you guess if they’re gonna tech one way or another so you can be there to hit them, or if they’re gonna try and not tech at all and you go for black beat combos).

The ideas you’re looking for in DI exist already, just not in the way you see it in Smash.

Sure do. Now go back under your bridge.

This

[Smash players are all like, "erk, derk, kerk!"
But Street Fighter players are all like, “ohhhh, ohhhh, awww yeah…”

AM I RIGHT?!](http://www.feanor.net/z0r/shock/whiteblack.swf)

its not that I’m taking it too seriously, its just annoying to see that you have teching and the opponent can still guard break you. thats nonsense! why even have it then? If you’re gonna have some defensive move, make it work right. So if I get fierce-grabbed by magneto (the ice grab thing), I tech-hit that, but then Im in normal jump mode all the sudden and from there I can get guard broken. Yeah, REAL USEFUL! If i ever make a game, Imma make it so that tech-hitting pushes you way far back so that you can’t follow me for a while.
