Dillema: Broke-ass college student looking to get back into fighting games, need advice

A couple years ago I played a lot of MVC3 and a bit of a couple other games, and I got pretty decent before losing access to my 360. I haven’t played any fighters in over a year, and I really miss it. The problem is, I have a very small amount of both money and time. All of my gaming, as little as there is, is on PC, so that’s what I’m going to stick with for now. The fighters I can get on Steam that I’m interested in are Skullgirls, KOF 13, and Street Fighter 4 - in fact, KOF is 50% off this weekend so I’m just going to go ahead and grab it right now for $15. Obviously there’s no way in hell I’m playing them on a keyboard, so I’ll need to invest in a controller or joystick. Fightsticks are sooooo damn expensive, though, like at least $275 for a good one as far as I’ve seen. I could always get a gamepad, I guess; I was pretty good at MVC3 on the 360 controller, but I definitely had some major execution problems keeping me from physically being able to do certain things. I’d much rather get an arcade-style joystick.

If I do end up getting a TV and a console soon, it’s definitely going to be a PS4 so I don’t have to pay for Xbox Live. Will a PS3 Fightstick still work on a PS4? I really want to eventually be able to go back and play those games that aren’t on PC like MVC3 and Soulcalibur V.

I guess this turned out to be more of a rant than a question, sorry, so does anyone have some general advice for me?
