I’ve been playing SF4 and SS4 for a good half year now with a Madcatz TE stick. I have to say I’ve grown quite accustomed to it. But, (hence the topictitle) I have one problem:
Facing from left to right I have big big issues doing a double quartre circle forward move for ultras and supers etc. Playing from the right to the left I can do pretty much whatever move I want, and superfast.
My grip is actually (by coincidence I might add) quite Daiogoesque: the difference is he has the base of the stick between his pinky and ringfinger, whereas I have the base of the stick between my ringfinger and middle finger.
I’m wondering if you guys could offer me any advice on how to improve my ability to perform quartre circles from left to right since it really hinders my play (and yes I have tried countless hours of training mode but it feels it’s not really helping).
Edit: crap, think I put this in the wrong subforum. If an admin could move it to where it fits best it would be grand. Soz guys! Nevertheless waiting for an answer though
Edit2: Starting this thread again in the regular SSF4 section. This 1 can be deleted then.
I’m guessing its easier to the right because when you start the df to f part you just use the bottom part of your fingers to push. Another guess I’m going to make is that you can’t do it as well to the left because you got no fat bottom part of a finger to help you. So I would say try gripping the stick at the bottom of the ball with your finger tips. Kinda like this, but its still just a paint diagram so don’t take this is as some ultimatum. By doing so you can still use the same part of your hand for motioning to the right and when going the left it might make it easier.
Here are two ways to hold the stick. Number 1 being the way I hold it and number 2 being the way I see lots of other people holding it.
While there is no ONE right way, I prefer mine because of the way the arm moves intrinsically. There is no smooth round motion when pulling, it’s for the most part straight and gripping it too tight will force the stick to follow that straight motion. when you’re in any place during a fight, you’re gonna not gonna be standing still for the most part. You’re gonna be pacing and doing all these silly shenanigans to get them off their guard or whatever so for now i feel it’d be safer to assume you’re not going to be in neutral but maybe more of a back/block state. sooo…What I’m thinking might happen is this
I think we go from back to forward too quick and miss the end of the arc, not giving us our fireball. This stuff happens to me too but mostly on pad and because I play on 360.
I know I wanted to say more but I have to go to class soon so I should end this here.I’ll be back later and see if I can remember anything else I might’ve wanted to say.
and all of this just to distinguish between cup the balls and straight gripping them.
left to right took a lil while but i finally pretty much got it down though id still prefer being on the 2p side during of match its just a comfort thing
wow for me its the opposite. I have trouble doing FADC facing right side to left. I just cannot dash to the left for the life of me. but I can dash and do QCF facing towards the right so easy. I prefer the 1p side over 2p side.
