Differences ps2-pstwo slim

Well i wondered what were the differences between the 2 models,i heard ps2 was less sturdy and could not stand well long time gaming,do some of you know about it?

dont know about that, ive had my ps2 running for over 24 hours(forgot to turn it off lol), and hav no problems, also the slim version cant use IDE hard drives, and it used usb network cables

Differences besides smaller size and Lid-loading for discs:
PSTwo has no Hard Drive bay, no fan, and built-in network adapter. Thats all I know.

Some claim PSTwo is much more prone to overheating as it has no fan. I don’t know if that is true or not.

As did I with my original model PS2. No problems.

I own one of each, and have never had overheating problems with either, even after marathon sessions of gaming.

The slimeline is easier to mod to play imports with the Swap Magic, since you don’t need to buy a fliptop or anything. If you’re not so much for modchips, it’s a nice way to go.

the slim PS2 DOES have a fan. Just not as big of one. It’s a single fan on top of the CPU.

at least, thats if i remember right. i could be wrong.

Really? I’d only seen swap magic used with a replacement flip top lid… how do you do it otherwise?

Yes, you can use an IDE HDD with the pstwo slim. You just cant do it out of the box like you can with the fatty. HDCOMBO and others take care of this.

A trivial difference to most people, but the slim PS2 doesn’t have an off switch on the back. Using the main button on the front puts it into standby like any other common electronic device.

I suppose this could be an advantage, since I’ve read that using the rear switch on the big one causes a surge of voltage each time that eventually wears the system down in some way. No idea if that’s true.

I run a used game store, and get both OG and Slim PS2’s in all the time, and the slim seems to be the way more reliable of the two. OG’s get disc read errors, stop playing blue discs, and are pretty much on borrowed time once you start playing DVDs. The Slim gets hotter than my demo Xbox 360, but been going strong, 8-10 hours a day for a year and a half…
Unless you’re playing Final Fantasy 11, you don’t really need the Hard Drive support, but you can get external HDs for the slim pretty easily if you want one.

yes the lack of switch behind also amazed me
whatever thanks all for the infos

Yeah I would think that by the time the Slim PSTwo rolled around, all the bugs and stuff in previous models like the DREs, were ironed out.

My 2004 Original model PS2 has always performed like a champ. Especially now with the HDD set-up saving the laser from unnecessary wear & tear.

I have never used the switch in the back of PS2, just turned it off the normal way by pressing/holding the power button.

I’ve seen others switch their PS2 off by the back-switch, and always kinda thought that looked dangerous to keep doing in the long-run. What Gaijinblaze stated about the possible surge of voltage makes sense.

By the time the slim came out, Sony had to fix all the crap wrong with OG PS2s…2004 was when they were doing the “Disc Read Error” replacements on any OG PS2’s for a while, and that had to get kind of expensive. The later models of the OG PS2(50001-59001) had far fewer problems, it was 30001-39001 series that sucked the most
