I guess I am trying to say is Nostalgia effects our Judgement, like how people think the 1950’s was better than it actually was (stop watching Leave it to Beaver and other 1950’s sitcoms).
Like how people complain how 80’s and early 90’s Consoles look terrible on HD TV sets when in actuality the crappy 13" TV you played your 8 -bit games as a kid had more distortion and visual artifacts that a 240i game displayed on a Modern 480i to 1080p LCD TV.
Other than a select few sticks at the time MAS Stick (SNES/ Genesis versions), C&L Controls Joystick and Capcom Power Fighter stick could compare as far as quality goes.
and about MAS i didn’t know all the components in their sticks were all soldered until i bought a supsergun from them. Which is a pain in the butt considering i had to fuck with some microswitches and what not…
The C&L is not comparable. It uses Happ parts but it’s too plasticy/hollow like a tupperware container. It lacks the weight to counterbalance the Happ parts.
It’s nostalgia. I want one maybe just to try out this joystick. I remember wanting one so bad. I saw the C&L in all my Gamepros Ads but I couldn’t afford them because I was just a kid. You had to call the number in to get it because they didn’t have it in store.
Wasn’t there another joystick in the 90’s that had Happ Parts? I think it was called the Firestick.
I also remember that they would make panels for 16 bit systems. I remember playing on one at a mom and pop video game store back in the day.
They should’ve made cabinets where you could put your SNES and Genesis in.
The SFAC stick is much better for nostalgia. You could throw a SNES/Genesis PCB in it. It feels like you are weilding some serious arcade juju. I’m sure you could get either of those systems modded for Jamma. It’s just an investment.
I don’t know the Street Fighter Anniversary stick is ok. It looks too dressed up and the button and joystick placement seems off. It feels fake to me. The MAS feels the best.
I remember back in the SF2 SNES days when I was a kid my friend’s older brother build a ghetto cabinet out of wood stuck a TV, a SNES, and two Capcom Fighting sticks lol. I remember playing it in his backyard. It wasn’t pretty but that’s the closest we could have to a machine at home.
