According to the FAQ there will only be 5 classes. Blizzard will most likely add more in the expansion (probably in development as well).
I think 5 is more than other other game has launched with.
All game announcements should be done like this. Dramatic video, gameplay video, everything. Just so much goodness to consume.

Diablo 3 official Website says eight unique classes. Cool that you can choose Male or Female. I watched the live feed and there was a mention of customized character creation, but they didn’t go into detail on it.
My heart skipped like eighty beats when the guy with the guitar came out playing the tristram theme.

Yes. Players will be able to create male and female characters for all five classes.
Simply amazing. They seem so far ahead in it’s progression. Also, i’m sure that WoW creators gave a hand to the Diablo team. Damn. I never expected SC2 and now D3!

The last game the old Diablo team made was Hellgate shit I believe. I’m not sure, but you simply can’t doubt the knowledge and story telling skills developed from making WoW. A lot of that is transferable to D3.
The website is really sick! It makes the SC2 page look like a joke, almost as if two different companies are making SC2 and D3… Man, i’m not going to see the sun when these two games get released!
Just when I thought I wouldn’t need to upgrade my video card because no new game is worth my time…DIABLO MOTHER FUCKING 3 IS ANNOUNCED! Guess it gives me about 1-2 years to upgrade now.
