Dhalsim Thread

The free-est in of all in this game is knocking them down as sim (whether a fireball or anti-air limb), and then them tech-rolling towards you. I think teleport on wake-up can help with this, but still, that fully invincible no recovery roll is a pain when trying to play keep away :frowning:

You can’t do a reversal as you come out of a roll though, so If you manage to time a meaty normal, there is nothing the opponent can do, but to block. A meaty throw when they come out of the roll will also force them to either tech, jump or get thrown it seems.

Hey guys,

I’m still looking for a good partner for Sim. Can someone please help me out here?

Thanks!

I just tested it and it seems to work although there’s no reversal notation written probably because technical is shown when you roll.

I got to see FChamp sparring with PR rog and his Sim-Guile team is awesome.

I have recently taken a liking to Sim so I have been trying to learn him as fast as I can. I mostly use his normal anti airs but I was wondering how good is AA yoga blast special the super version seems pretty effective.

What do you mean when you say seemed to work? Are someone who is rolling, able to srk your meaty normal as they come out of the roll recovery? I was testing this for a long time with a friend, and we concluded that it wasn’t possible:o We might have been wrong, but I can’t believe that!

Sim is so solid in this game now that focus isn’t around

I tried it in training mode i was able to wake up uppercut every time on a meaty. Someone else can confirm?

Edit: I browsed the rolling thread and they say that you can reversal after a roll

Sim is great bc spears are finally good. They are plus frames, and can lead to a standing lk combo on hit.

Beating guile in this game is nothing like sf4, but dhalsim still wins. Instead of spamming fp like in retardo sf4, now some brains are required. First, dhalsim low fp and low strong hit guile underneath the sonic boom, and often even recover before the boom hits.

Also, slide is much much better against guile, because no worry about focus. A max distance medium slide can actually combo, without counterhit, into standing lk combo.

In fact, guile and chun li are also very similar, bc standing fierce punch loses to both their fireballs. Similar strategies abound in both matches. Slide are good from max range, yoga tower to avoid fireballs, or just slide or spear over them.

Against grapplers, jumping mp is great anti air, same with jumping rh, the far distance ones.

Honostly though, sim is the kind of character that words do little to explain how he works. Lots of experience and time with him are the best teachers. Learn his 10000+ anti airs, stay away, and never be predictable.

why does sim’s super do LESS damage in pandora mode? at least you can link aa super into ground super…with pandora mode gems you can get 514 dmg with this.

going into pandora mode makes the second char come in a char’s length further behind, which makes it perfect for punishing cross up jumps with a incoming dhalsim doing aa super into ground super

Sadly, after doing aa super, there won’t be any time for sim’s meter to recharge to two bars (even with meter gem I would assume). You might be able to do aa super, do c. fierce, and then do super (you would probably need the corner for this though)

Ps: I can’t be the only one who sees this every time you do Cross Arts (qcf+mp+mk) with Dhalsim:

So which character are you guys teaming sim with? Feels like its either grapplers or zoner specialists that works well with him. Being a big Hajime no Ippo fan I tried teaming sim and steve together but it doesn’t work :frowning:

When you say “doesn’t work”, what do you mean?

I team him with Hwoarang atm. but I don’t think it is a very good match up, because Hwoarang benifits from having a team mate that is more mobile in the air when you tag cancel etc. and Dhalsim is just too floaty. I can probably get some better synergy going, but Hwoarang doesn’t dish out enough damage on a launcher IMO. I mentioned earlier that I think Dhalsim will benefit from having a team mate that can do a lot of damage with a few hits (Like Hugo) on a tag in, since with lk being 3 frames and leading into launcher, it will be a good way to get damage.

Ps: I re-tested the rolling thing with my friend, and it turned out he wasn’t mashing reversal hard enough, so you were right all along!

when I say doesn’t work I mean no synergy, none of them have any reliable reversal excluding supers. It may very well be that i’m playing them totally wrong.

dude yes. no focus attack means dhalsim is a bitch of a zoner.

some of the possibilites of tagging etc.

Do you guys think Dhalsim works better on point or as a second character? Or perhaps both?

on point, because he doesn’t need meter to do damage. i save it for my secondary so he can do as much damage after launshing as possible.
i play sim loaded with 2 meter gain gems and and that pandora damage gem

I’m using Dhal on point and sometimes as second (with Bison on point). I dunno, to me he’s pretty versatile with/without meter

Looking forward to the matchup threads, though! Hugo is giving me fits at times

Does sim play similarly enough to his sf4 self to watch sf4 match videos for tips?

Trying to pick up sim in the first game ever and akuma/steve were wrecking my day.
