If they’re point blank on you just don’t hit mediums whatsoever. Your options are pretty much block, tech/throw, and use clp/slk/slp to keep them at bay.
if you want damage, midscreen and meterless you can do V-Skill over them, j.HK, c.HP, b.MP xx mp flame. This works an all the normal height opponents (Ryu etc), but does not work on Birdie and other tall characters.
In the corner, there should be better options starting with b.HP?
j.HK can sort of cross up from V-Skill. If you V-Skill over someone, you can see that Dhalsim will actually correct the side at certain points. You can then fall down and get a crossup. You can test this easily by going next to the opponent and hitting f+V-Skill, move just a tiny bit forward and hit j.HK.
The problem with this is the fact that it doesn’t really hit crouching, so it’s most likely not that useful as a mixup…
The combo above does not need it to crossup though. It’s just important that you’re on top of the character to give enough room for the c.hp, b.mp link to connect.
Slowly getting better with Sim. Need more consistency with my IAT though. For the cr.hp-mk-flame combo I hit the HP at 2, then finish the flame motion with mp. I can get the mk kick or flame to link after cr.HP, but i can’t get the flame out after mk. Do I need to do the full flame motion after cr. HP?
Teleport behind. Lk or Mk slide underneath jumpins. Mk slide xx V trigger then teleport behind them (technically unsafe but alot of people aren’t ready). V Reversal into teleport behind. Back jump into lk drill to sail over their heads.
All of those things have counters pretty much, but can be quite finnicky for some characters to punish especially if you mix things up. Its better to weather the storm a bit first normally though, block stuff and try and fight your way out with st.mk to push them back. Then go for one of those escape options.
Having a real hard time doing the teleport, I mean seems like pressing the 3 punch or kick buttons have to be pressed exactly at the same time after the DP motion and on pad it’s dufficult. Any tips? Also what’s his instant air tekeport? I thought it was just his regular teleport?
You can use a shortcut for the IAT. :f::df::uf: (or :db::ub:), slight delay, :lp::mp::hp:or :lk::mk::hk:. You don’t have to do :dp::uf: in this game.
How long you delay for, determines how high you will jump before teleporting unless you delay for too long. In that case, all you get is a jumping HP or HK and you’re eating a punish.
On Pad, like Xr0s-up said, use a Macro for PPP and KKK. It’s much more convenient. On stick, it’s pretty easy to hit all three buttons properly.
Thanks guys, so the L1-L2 on the ps4 pad are the macros right? Also if someone were to enter a tournament using pad he wouldn’t be allowed to use the L1-L2 shortcuts because it’s a macro right?
You’d be fine entering a tournament, those combinations are typical for pad players and unless I’m mistaken, part of the default button settings for the game. The only real time macros aren’t allowed is if they do sequences of actions in a button press, so basically no programmable controllers.
Hello people. Brand new to shoryuken.com, and although I main Ryu, I wanted to pick up a second fighter to learn, and Dhalsim sparked my interest. SFV is my first Street Fighter that I am actually dedicated to learning the game. Information on Dhalsim is pretty scarce, so could any of you veterans point me in the right direction to starting Dhalsim from the very basics? The only thing I can find are a few advanced combo videos. I’m looking to learn to PLAY Dhalsim, and add combos into my game slowly after understanding the basics.
Patience and defense. You have to find your way out but if you try to force it then you’re playing their game. Part of being Sim is learning how to take pressure.
Knock them down, IAT to the opposite side.
Slide under jump ins and teleport back.
Don’t forget that you can cancel into teleport. s.lk -> back-teleport is doable
Throw into the corner (not suggested, you’re likely to get stunned)
V-skill (reckless under pressure, but still possible… however, if v-skill will get you out of the corner, then there’d likely have been better options)
Jump -> drill (rare)
