Dhalsim improvement thread

Yeah, I’m totally being an optimist, simply because 'sim was the character that got me into SFII in the first place. That said, Makoto and Juri are calling. I still want 'sim to be able to threaten the big boys like he can now, but it certainly doesn’t look promising at this point.

That said, the changes they’ve made to Ryu and Sagat suggest that they know things need adjustment. Hopefully they won’t ignore 'sim, although I’m more likely to believe that any time some one on the team mentions improving 'sim, the leads say “oh, he’s so tricky! very tricky!” and that’s as far as the argument gets.

Who will you be maining if Sim stays the same Sabin? You and Iyo brought me onto the path of yoga, and if Iyo stays as invisible as now, and you change up your main… I kind of loos my inspiration:P Might go top tier for the hell of it…

You mean at the bottom of the tier list?

i had to lol @ that.

Its a sad truth. Doesn’t mean you can’t do well with him, its just ALOT of hard work and its hard to stay consistent

I still have hope. We’ve seen next to no stuff about character changes–for anyone–beside a few obvious examples like tu and ss damage nerf.

I felt like things were pretty grim for 'Sim… Reading some of the posts in here solidify them even further. Nevertheless, I’m still gonna wait for more news.

Well, to be fair, Dhalsim is probably the least popular character in Vanilla (along with Fuerte) so most of the people who are playing the latest SSFIV builds might not be too familiar with his nuances.

If they increased his damage by, say, 10%, or increased the stun on his normals by 10%, and boosted his life to 950, or slightly extended the hitbox on jab Yoga Flame to make it easier to combo after canceling b. MK, or added more invincibility to EX Yoga Blast, or made his Focus slightly better…no one but a Sim main would notice those, and put together they could help Sim a bit.

Let’s wait and see…

Remember when he said that Keno was full of shit and that Guile felt more ‘Guiley’ in SSF4? Turns out the only thing Guile got was an ultra that can’t juggle and a nerfed s.HP.

People have way too much faith in that guy.

Besides comboing your Ultra into your super is a huge waste of meter. Well unless you’re Dhalsim cuz you have no other way of doing high damage.

This actually sounds exactly like something that would really happen in a meeting with balancing the game. Ugh.

Well, I’m hoping that Sim’s gonna be good but it’s hard to believe that if nothing’s changed.

I’ll agree with you on that. A useful Yoga Blast. That would be killer.

I hope there are changes to find that actually give Dhalsom a chanse, and I agree that Mr Wizzard probably didn’t know if there were some minor buffs, but we do have a video of dhalsim from the final build, showcasing a lot of his normals and specials, and Sabin said he couldn’t see any changes… Ofcourse even Sabin will have a hard time spotting frame changes etc, from just watching a video, especially when they seem to have sped up the game all together, but his comment about the video against Hakan killed a lot of my hope:(

I still have some though! Hope Capcom isn’t thinking he will be fine as he is:(

So any news on Sim? A lot of info has been trickling down since the NDAs were lifted, but I haven’t heard any substantial data on Dhalsim. Other than his new Ultra we know practically nothing.

People have been discovering stuff here and there about other characters on the latest builds that we didn’t know about, like Honda’s Sumo Headbutt flying over low Tiger Shots. So hopefully Sim’s got some new tricks up his sleeve.

here’s some notes from Boutrosinit, a great Dhalsim player I played a lot of SSFIV with over GDC (cross-posted from GAF):

I’m assuming he means Catastrophe? Why would they nerf the damage on that? It was the least damaging Ultra in the game IIRC (300 dmg on lvl. 2 Ultra), and Sim has the overall lowest damage output in the game. Unless this is part of a global damage reduction on Ultras, but still, considering Shangrila looks useless, so far this is painful.

This is good news. Hopefully canceling a short slide into Yoga Fire will finally combo, as well as cr. back forward into Yoga Fire, ala SF2.

Not surprising: Capcom has showed time and again they don’t want SFIV Sim to be the offensive beast SF2 Sim was capable of being. Hopefully the drills are a bit faster this time around to help Sim’s mobility.

I’m really worried about Sim?s match-ups in SSFIV. Many of the new characters are offensively oriented, built for rushing people down. In Vanilla, Sim does well against more traditional SF character designs like Ryu, Blanka, Honda or Sagat, but less traditional characters like Viper, Abel, Rufus and Akuma rape Dhalsim because he lacks the tools to zone them out properly: he has to take huge risks and guesses that are never in his favor. So it looks like Ibuki, Dudley, Guy, and Juri will be an absolute nightmare for Sim, since Capcom hasn?t addressed his need for better zoning tools because, you know, that?s what he?s built for.

This is retarded, as in, holy crap what were they thinking retarded. So now we are gonna get SPD?ed out of our pokes? Seriously?
Plus, aren?t Balrog?s rush punches unthrowable now? What kind of retarded, warped, twisted logic is that? They make a top-tier, brain-dead easy character like Balrog even more autopilot, but they make Sim?s st. fierce, arguably his best move, throwable from a distance? You do that to a low tier character like Dhalsim? Is this an early April’s fools joke? :looney::looney::looney:
Who is balancing this stuff? G-2 Ryu players?

I think gimped is an understatement, unless there?s something we don?t know.

Looks like Sim is suffering from a bit of Blanka syndrome: scrubs hate him, so they nerf him to benefit the whiny scrubs, even though the character isn?t very good in the first place.

We still need to get the game in our hands before jumping into real conclusions. I?ll give Capcom the benefit of doubt. But this is looking pretty bad. I?d say Sim is a strong candidate for the worst character in SSFIV as it stands now.

whee sim on blast

A certain NorCal Dhalsim player told me standing fierce and standing short have less range. He’s been wrong about other stuff, so hopefully that’s wrong too.

im sorry Ultra David but i told you that the version i played was the earlier beta versions
and that i havent played the final build yet T_T my bad

There goes your cover lol.
