Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

https://twitter.com/ultradavid/status/704366848838533124

I agree with UltraDavid on this. This section needs cleaning up.

I was more or less organizing like it was in SF4. If this organization doesn’t work, what would you prefer? Should we merge up the matchup threads or what specifically should happen?

I think different threads for every match-up is fine, the tech thread and combo thread could be merged though.
I don’t see the point of the beginners thread when there’s a Q&A thread. Those could also be merged.

I had started (but never finished) a C. Viper thread in which the first 45 posts were reserved for matchups and the very first post had links to each post. The plan was to let the discussions continue throughout the thread and just update each of the aforementioned specific matchup posts.

I should really try to finish that someday lol

The only things that it’s really important, it’s to add “dhalsim, the rage quitter generator” to the topic’s title

Haha, talking to my friends… none of them have the ragequit experience that I have.

it’s more useful this way. After a while matchups merged into one ends up being too long to bother reading and people end up asking for the same shit over and over. This way is useful, i play ryu for example i can come in here and get straight to the info i need.

Is he talking about the matchup threads? It’s fine that way.

FYI - I’m a systems analyst and part time genius and full time Street Fighter scrub

I respect that he is a much better player than a lot of us including me but have to disagree here.

Unless someone really dedicated is maintaining the first post, megathreads are where information goes to get buried and die.

I think it is kind of silly that you can’t TK EX Gale, but it’s whatever I suppose.

I don’t know if this is well known or not since I don’t play Dhalsim, but it popped up in the Laura forums. So, his st.LP is 3f but the first frame only has an anti air hitbox. With the priority system you will only (I’m guessing, haven’t tested) get a CH during active frames if it WOULD have been a trade without the system. Because of its hitbox, it can’t trade on its first active frame, and therefor can’t be counterhit due to trade resolution.

Basically, if you press st.LP during any 3f frametrap to a medium, you’ll get hit, but not counterhit, unlike every other character in the game. You can see this by recording Laura doing st.LK, st.MP and pressing st.LP in between. You will get hit, but not counterhit. Against Laura in particular, that’s a big deal, because she doesn’t have any links outside of lights and counterhits.

2 things I’d change about Dhalsim:

IA Gale should not be +, it should be - but not necessarily unsafe.

EX Flame should be more unsafe. Kind of dumb that he can be comfortable going into EX flame knowing he’s either hitting it or pushing you out for a bar. He should have to confirm it.

Give him back EX upblast so I can deal with cammys divekicks

St.hp startup changed from 20F to 14F. Damage 90 to 80

St.hk startup changed from 16F to 12F. Damage 90 to 80.

St.mp startup changed from 12F to 10F.

St.mk damage changed from 50 to 60.

J.mp/mk/lp all Vskill cancellable on hit only. Only cancellable at minimum height restriction of jump Vskill.

J.mp tagged to hit grounded opponents.

Lk.slide special cancellable up to the fourth active frame.

I think one EX bar (1/3 of your entire bar) is a reasonable price to pay to gain a little space between an aggressor and you.

If only j.mp hit grounded opponents. He would go next level anime

That would be so godlike.

That’s what V-Reversal is for. You shouldn’t be able to get a 2-in-1 on combo or pushback without actually having to hitconfirm. Either outcome is favourable for Dhalsim. You should have to hitconfirm your damaging specials, especially a character like Dhalsim. I don’t know why this is a controversial statement.

its controversial because it’s dhalsims only reliable way to get some air in close quarters and it costs meter.
Ken TC1 into ex fireball is safe too, for example. Nashs ex fliplock is also safe.

ex moves being safe on block is nothing new

He’s -4 after EX flame. Most Sim’s aren’t going to press a button after that, so you can get pressure going with a special, normal, dash in mixup, etc. What character do you play?

You will not find anyone here to willingly agree that Sim should receive nerfs. Not after 7 years of underpowered SFIV Sim.
