Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

Been a very long time since I posted in this forum and I don’t remember my old password.

B-mp - hpflame is a great antair for continuous combos
Drills are over powered
Crouch fierce on block is +3 (stand Jab after is still plus)
Standing jab as antair is amazing
(Remember it’s 3 frame anti air on top and 4 frames on the ground)
You need to learn instant gale setups… Not to hard
After super you can stand Foward into carpet mixup!
V-trigger into drill mixups on wake up
Stand Foward into roundhouse crush counter is amazing!
(after crush counter I see a lot of people just fierce punching, but you can medium kick slide into bfoward mflame "1frame link"
Medium kick slide on tip is +7 which gives bmk 7 frames to connect

There is really so much things I can’t even think of everything.
Dhalsim is really impressive!

^^^^THIS. I will say though if you don’t have the IAT down, your Sim will be at a massive disadvantage because you lose the element of surprise.

Let’s hope they don’t nerf him to death as CAPCOM did in SF4 series

Hey Adnan, thanks for sharing this, lots of good info here and I learned a few things. I absolutely agree that Sim is very impressive in SFV!

By the way, anyone know of a super/kinda/not really secret Facebook group or something for Sim like I know there are for Hakan and Dee Jay tech/videos, or are we mostly trying to share stuff here?

How are his drills OP? I never bothered to learn the application for his drills in IV because they weren’t great. Why are they better now and how should I be using them?

I’m having a lot of trouble against rush down characters. Especially Cammy and Karin. Sometimes I feel like the best strategy against especially good Karins is to just put the controller down and let them have their way.

I can’t AA for shit. back strong gets stuffed constantly. down strong works from round start distance and back fierce is hard as fuck to ever get to do anything unless i know they’re jumping before they do it.

What do I do? Karin and Laura just jumping on me all day and even if I AA then they land mid screen on me and even if they block or get hit by stand forward or strong it doesn’t push back at all, they’re still in my face.

I really need some help. I’m trying to slide under and poke or teleport but slide has way more recovery than SF4 so it’s not working as well especially vs people with good buttons like Karin.

Yes, that has been my trouble too. If you guess right, you can hit them out of the air for about 100 damage. But guess wrong or miss time it and you eat big damage. But that’s how Dhalsim has always been. I think we just need to get used to new timings.

Guess when Capcom gave him his curve fireballs they thought that’s enough for AA, Jab is good but not good enough.
So far getting clear hits and staying away from pressure seems to best strategy.

Positioning is key. cr.mp is the only reliable AA that you can do on pure reaction, so the idea is to position yourself in a cr.mp friendly distance.

That’s exactly what that normal is for. You need to anticipate a jump to use it, and if you do it well you get rewarded with a big damage crush counter with juggle properties. Purely reacting with back fierce without anticipating a jump is risky, don’t do it unless you have good reactions, cross-unders using slides are a better option in this case.

Another tip is to control the air using your v-skill. Once you’re floating in the air you have a lot of options. People usually want to challenge your airborne state by doing a jump towards you, easily punishable with a simple press of :mp:.

People still struggling with inputs, they will come to you in time. I played Viper in IV so this stuff is like childs play to me, and I don’t even consider my execution that good.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that I can’t get EX gale if I “tk” it. I guess there’s a height restriction?

Genius, man. I assigned the 3 punch to one button and I’m having much better success. So here is my question, is it legal to map the x’s 3 button in tournaments? Is it legal period to map buttons? If so I think I will map my times 3 punch and kick.

5Lp anti-air is good, but I don’t see any reason why people should respect it considering the abysmal damage. Sim’s AA game seems really situational, but I guess that is the price you pay for his mix up game

can anyone give me some tips with what to do when cornered, knocked down…then on wakeup, my opponent just hits a lot of cr.lp or cr.lk trying to bait the v reversal, then mixing that up with throws, rinse repeat. i just played a set against a ryu where i won 10-9 but i felt like i was totally lost in this situation. it left me flustered. my execution went out the window because i was being rushed down so hard.

What I did in SF4 was to get used to blocking and dealing with the mixup. Getting thrown or being hit overhead are better than being combo’d into stun.

I think that being cool under pressure is paramount when you just have no reversal game.

i played guile in sf4 so i’m used to dealing with pressure. i never touched sim in sf4 either so i guess i just have to take the l’s against crap players until i improve

Only V-Reversal things that has enough recovery frames to be V-Reversable, don’t mash it as soon as they press a cr.lp. You’re better off blocking and saving the meter for a v-trigger. They can only cr.lp or cr.lk so much until they need to walk forward again. Tick throwing isn’t as good in this game as it was in SF4, the throw ranges are really awful and the tech window is pretty big. Block until they do something dumb that lets you get out of the corner, like a jump you can slide under.

Don’t see it as you being pressured, see it as you being in control. If you have good defense, the opponent will be the one being pressured to do something dumb.

Good to see I’m not the only one I thought I was going crazy hehe. So much for easier inputs in SF5.

can someone point me in the direction for the frame data for his slides and drills? can’t see any mention of it in lord gilley’s list and i can’t get my head around the one that numbers all the directions lol.

secondly, does anyone have a decent motion for instant air gale? i don’t mean after a teleport because i’ve got that down fine. i mean just raw gale. i want to get it as low as possible.
