Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

It looked more like he was just thinking too long about exactly which one he should use, Art did say they were good.

Lack of meta = things not being optimized. His b+lp is said to be pretty good for dealing with jumps and cross ups. B+hp has great range and gets a unique angle for him, but obviously slower. His j.hk is the old school one that angles up and probably useful with v skill as one.

I don’t know why “lack of AA” is such a big deal. Your plan B anti-air should be to slide under. I’ve read that trip guard has been taken out, so if a player isn’t jumping in with an attack that can cross-up, or if the character doesn’t have a cross-up, you get a free punish when they land.

Plus resetting the neutral is great in itself. Perhaps gaining some valuable real estate.

Can you tech throws on landing recovery in SFV?

probably not seeing as it’s landing recovery. Usually “recovery” implies that you can’t do jackomo.

Well in SF4, you can tech throws during landing recovery.

Doesn’t look like Capcom has made any changes to Sim since CC. I’ve been saying from day one that he has a really weak mid range game and it’s abundantly apparent in the recent WSO.

I’m really interested in seeing how people figure out how pin people on top of the flame carpet, watched a little of that WSO video and the Claw was getting out free. I wonder if drill pressure on top of the carpet is going to pan out as legit.

I think ideally youll want to have them in the corner then place yoga fire over their head. Im thinking there will be setups where by the time your yoga fire recovers they will be unable to jump. Then you can choose to stick out normals or another yoga fire to cover the jump again. ****

Makes sense that the actual hit has a projectile hitbox

Dhalsim move list!

Dhalsim who? Let us just shut down this thread. F.A.N.G is everything Dhalsim could wish to be and more:P

RIP Sim. Release - FANG

Yup I will be playing Fang now for sure lol. Just reaffirms the statement arturo made about Sim needing a Horizontal fireball. Fang has one and his zoning potential looks awesome. Even though Fangs isnt quite the same as it doesnt cause any hitstun, the poison effect still makes it a threat to get hit by. So he has threatening long range ground control. Something Sim would have too if they just gave him a horizontal fireball lol.

The thing I believe though is the way they designed him, he would have to lose Yoga Float in order to have a horizontal projectile. SF generally takes place in the bottom horizontal area of screen space and Yoga Float allows Dhalsim to bypass all of that. Effectively being able to not have to be in the neutral for periods of time. Having a decent horizontal fireball with the ability to fly over everyone else’s traditionally horizontal techniques would be rather OP IMO.

This will most likely be another SF game where Dhalsim isn’t top tier, but he would most likely be way too strong vs too many characters the way the game is designed with a horizontal fireball. Which technically he still does have one, it just requires meter. They’re just not allowing Dhalsim to braindead throw out a horizontal yoga fire and run yoga float shenanigans while avoiding most of the neutral.

I’m still making him my secondary character since I’m very intrigued by his new play style which is very new for SF.

Yeah they may have to tone down his mobility a bit if they gave him a horizontal fireball. Balancing his V Skill though just seems like extra hard work when a character like Sim is already talked as being ‘to hard to balance’ in the first place. Thats why I reckon it would’ve been easier to just make him more similar to his SFIV incarnation and go from there.

I’ll still be trying Sim too. Never hurts to experiment at the beginning of a game. His V Skill actually might make his mobility better than fangs overall. Both characters look like they have trouble getting people off them though (although fang does have that EX Dash that side switches and might be useful for escapes).

Honestly, the fact that he isn’t similar to SFIV Sim is the only reason I’m playing him. If he was traditional limb/fireball/AA Sim I probably wouldn’t have touched him. Wanna see where this this new anime Sim goes.

Making him similar to SFIV would just fit him in line with characters like Ryu, Chun and Cammy who they didn’t get to risky with design wise other than their V Skills. He’s in a new game where horizontal projectile zoning isn’t as emphasized so it’s good to see him perform new things differently in the neutral now as a trade off. Being a character that is forced to block is more viable in SFV than SFIV it looks like so far. People are quoting Bison and Vega as two of the strongest characters and neither has a legit neutral reversal other than super/v trigger.

So did anybody try him out during the stress test? Was he in it?

Only Ryu, Necalli and R.Mika were available during the stress test. They still haven’t revealed the roster for Phase 3, but I’m sure it should include Sim pretty early.
