Dhalsim General Thread: The Longer it Gets, the Harder it Hits

If whiffing Yoga Flame out of V Skill float built V Gauge I would definitely agree a runaway/meter build strategy would be good. But I heard he has to land attacks out of V Skill to actually build meter from V Skill?

Blocked V Skill normals also builds V Gauge just like Chun Li or Karin or anyone else that can make you block it. Just not as much as hitting them obviously. Later SF games haven’t put as much emphasis on purely whiffing to build meter any way.

I think you should get it from whiffing Yoga flame out of V Skill but not whiffing normals yeah. Its nice that he has 2 CC normals aswell. I saw a few Arturo matches where he was consistently getting 2 V triggers per round which looks good. Sims V Trigger isnt really guaranteed enough to be used as a pseudo comeback mechanic like other characters so if he can feasibly get it twice per round that sounds fair.

Latest video from Arturo at CC is a pretty good picture of the characters strengths/weaknesses at this day minus 3 months stage. Pretty back and forth set.

I agree about the V Trigger thing. You may get one activation where you don’t get to burn them for too long, but then get them in a good trap situation with the next one and that flame will be the game changer. I like the idea of it though because it effects where the opponent can be on screen and forces them to move even if you arent burning them.

That set was interesting. He still plays a bit too much SFIV Sim for me. Long periods of staying on the ground pressing normals without SFIV walk speed or dash. With that said thats still a good thing because once he unlocks the air game he’ll have the ground situations down better than most anyone else also. Right now its a bit of a handicap since hes basically playing weaker SFIV Sim for a lot of the rounds until he floats. This is probably why F.Champ is having a hard time. He just wants to ground normal people to death also.

You’ll notice that Arturo resorts a lot to purely teleporting to use air normals. Which while effective in that set, doesn’t build V Gauge like going into float would. Still zero use of air yoga flame.

Overall good though because hes getting mileage even with old school Sim play. Added in with SFV yoga float/air yoga flame theory he should be pretty lame and aggressive in new ways.

I couldn’t find a single match on YouTube with a Sim user that’s using yoga flame in air. Need to get my hands on the next beta :).

Does Yoga Fire cause proximity block? It might be a solid way to discourage walking backward out of V-Trigger.

No proximity block in this game.

Damn. How is Yoga Flame on block?

is there any point in using mummy over drill?

On UltraChen they said it felt plus and could true block string off air normals.

Did he say that normal flame seemed + on block? I have only heard that about the air flame. From what I see, the light flame seems to be slightly minus, but safe.

It is really not though, like at all. There is so much both players are not doing that affect the way a match will be played by even a week of the game actually being out that it doesn’t reflect the strengths or weaknesses of any character. All it shows is Art using some basic sim knowledge(sfv) and good streetfighter know how vs someone who doesn’t know much about the game at all. Sim is almost always a character that has to be taken to high level to show any signs of being competitive anyway, until you can negate the basic and mindless forms of rush down and tame a player Sim will always look like shit.

Yeah thats why I said at this point in time. That set was the best footage of the character I’ve seen yet for getting an initial impression imo but yeah it will most likely have no bearing on what future Sim will look like.

Whens the next time we will see Sim in public? Getting too info starved in here.

There was a couple things rumored to have Capcom showings at them but can’t remember. Some players are currently playing the game at Capcom’s offices though. So there’s that.

Otherwise, wait for 3rd beta and have a bunch of people cracking him out. Rashid got a lot more fleshed out just from the beta and I think Sim will as well with minds from many different fighting game backgrounds unlocking his new toolset. This is a Sim that will need work from many, not just the few and proud.

I think sim needs some lab rats on him, I think he can be pretty sick but it’s so hard to tell. Can he keep someone like Mika and Karin off him? Thats gonna be the big question.

All I know regarding use of V-Trigger, is I’m gonna be using jab xx VT over VRs primarily. I just thought about this, and it seems like an unstoppable setup for it.

This is incorrect. Grounded normals still have proximity block

Isn’t Laura’s whole gameplan built around prox block?

Sim’s fireballs need to be adjusted. Recovery is terrible, zoning potential is bad. Even the arch is not that great for setups, especially in the corner.

They only removed proximity block from jump ins from what I’ve heard. @ilitirit mentioned this was most likely their way to wholesale eradicate jump in unblockable setups. I’m assuming because your character doesn’t just frame move their hurt box around without it.

Grounded proximity guard is still in the game which like said, Laura’s fireball is built around it.

I still have to confirm that. It could be that proximity block off air blocks are still in, but it only activates at a lower height or at certain distances.
